Brennan Johnson will undergo his medical at Everton today after an agreement was reached to sign the winger from Crystal Palace.

Everton have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Johnson as part of a swap deal that will see Dwight McNeil head in the opposite direction.

The deal is understood to be a straight swap, with Palace having held a long-standing interest in McNeil, who saw a January move to the Eagles collapse on deadline day.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that 'everything is done' between the two clubs, with the players set to have their respective medicals today. 

Johnson is set to become Everton's fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following deal for Hayden Hackney, Christian Norgaard, and the permanent arrivals of Merlin Röhl and Tyrique George.

The 25-year-old will look to bounce back from a difficult half-season at Crystal Palace, who he joined for around £35m in January.

Everton will hope Johnson can recapture the form he showed at Tottenham Hotspur during the 2024/25 campaign, in which he scored 18 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

He scored 11 league goals in 33 appearances that season and ranked highly among Premier League wingers on several key metrics.

Per 90 minutes, the Wales international ranked second among his positional peers for expected goals, non-penalty expected goals, dribble success percentage, and duels won percentage. He also ranked fifth for goal conversion.

Do palace have to pay all the fee to Spurs before this deal goes through?

If the value is placed around 20m then we should make a financial profit of 16m given Dwight's book value of around 4m (i.e. originally bought for 20m / 5 year contract gives amortization of 4m per year so there will be 16m written off from his original fee).

Thats good financial business as it puts 16m into our transfer kitty (theoretically) or at least balancing last years transfer expenditure more likely.

I expect Tim Iroegbunem to be sold to recover some more profit.

Yes Danny, on paper this is definitely the best business we've done in years. He'll be on over £100.000 a week whereas Dwight was on modest wages as far as the premier league goes, but this is probably how we've got the deal.

I can see why Palace have let him go because without the goals and assists he looks and sounds like a player who frustrates...and one on high wages.

Lets hope we get the Forest and Spurs version.

Reading the social media streams, it seems that Palace fans have pretty much the same view of Johnson as we do of McNeil. Has sometimes been good, but not very often recently, and they won't be sorry to see him go.
Seems to me it is a win-win. Both players need a change of scenery, and Johnson has got to be better than Beto and Barry.

Serious question, has Johnson played much at right back? I’ve seen him at RWB and right wing, but could he be an option at RB, or is he not defensively minded enough.

Okay signing as he can play left wing, right wing and as a forward. Moyes will love that.

Good pace which we lack, but fairly functional as a player.

Dibling has far more potential, therefore send him on loan if the intention is to prioritise Brennan for selection.

Transfer fees are almost never paid up front. Clubs buy players and pay in installments over the duration of the players signed contract.

When we were really skint we sold Rooney for a slightly smaller amount than expected but with a bigger chunk of the money being paid early by United to ease our cash flow problems.

There is a pig flying over my house as I write this. Really ? We get this lad and they get Dwight. The world has officially gone mad. Are we also swapping Patterson and Myko for Reece James and Cuccarella ?

Great bit of business. Johnson has looked good when he's wide right for Wales and he works hard defensively also. Cuts in and can finish. If Moyes can get the best out of him then it's a great,cheap signing

Potentially a very good deal for us, at least BJ is at an age where even if he flops we should still be able to get a few million for him.

Good luck to Dwight, he was a massive player for us under the Dinosaur and we would have been relegated if it wasn't for his goals and assists in the second half of the '22/23 season.

Given his form of late, I have serious doubts about what Brennan will bring to the team.

However, if we get the Forest and Spurs version, it will be a terrific bit of business.

How long is the contract Johnson has signed for? It looks like another winger besides Dnaiye will be leaving especially if we sign Grealish.

I like Dwight, if he had pace he would be one of the first names on the team sheet
but he doesn't, and we desperately need pace in our team. Good luck fella, thanks for everything, particularly 1-5 Brighton.
