Jonathan Nsangou was the star of the show as Everton U18s put on a dazzling attacking display, brushing aside Reading 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Bearwood Park Training Ground, to open their Premier League Under-18s Cup campaign in style.
T he Blues could not have asked for a better start at Finch Farm. Just three minutes into the contest, Jonathan Nsangou (4') reacted fastest to poke home the opening goal and set the tone for an explosive first period.
Reading barely had time to catch their breath before Everton doubled their advantage seven minutes later. New signing Arthur Barratt showed impressive composure on the flank to carve open the visitor’s defense, serving up a pinpoint cross for Amari Moses (10')— making his first start of the season — to calmly slot home.
Jonathan Nsangou (14', 31') then took complete control of the match, completing a remarkable first-half hat-trick with two clinically taken finishes before the referee’s whistle blew for the interval. His third goal effectively killed off any lingering hopes of a Royal fightback, leaving Everton in total command at 4-0 up going into the break.
The young Blues maintained control in the second half while managing the tempo of the game. Midfielder Dafi Pemberton (76') added the gloss to a sensational team performance, putting the cap on the afternoon with a cool finish to make it 5-0.
Beyond the attacking fireworks, head coach Leighton Baines will be equally thrilled with his side's defensive discipline. The backline stood tall to secure their first clean sheet of the season, rounding off a flawless afternoon. The resounding victory sends Everton straight to the top of Group A on goal difference, laying down a formidable marker for the rest of the competition.
