Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is confident that he is close to an England call and hopes he can impress Thomas Tuchel this season.
Dewsbury-Hall has never been capped at international level, but believes he has what it takes to earn England recognition. The 28-year-old has turned down overtures from the Republic of Ireland, for whom he qualifies through family heritage, and has previously said representing England would be the ‘proudest’ moment of his career.
The midfielder watched on as Everton teammates Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner all represented the Three Lions during the recent break, and is hopeful he can follow in their footsteps this season.
“Yeah, I’m hoping so,” he told evertonfc.com in an Q&A.
“You get the provisional squads which I’m in every time now. That tells you you’re close.
“I believe in my ability. I know if I can show what I know I can do, it’s inevitable at some point. I want to put it in the manager’s head, so he knows it’s not really an option. So, if I can do that, maybe I’ll be lucky and get one!”
Asked if he feels ready for England recognition, Dewsbury-Hall said he ‘wouldn’t be waiting’ for England if he didn’t believe he was good enough.
“Definitely. With all due respect, I wouldn’t be waiting for England if I didn’t think I could play for England.
“I’m more than ready to show what I can do, and it’ll be up to [the manager] at the end of the day.”
Dewsbury-Hall has reignited his career at Everton after a difficult spell at Chelsea and said he’s delighted to be at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Asked about how he settled last season, the midfielder said the club ‘feels like home’.
“It does feel like home. I fitted in from minute one and everyone has helped me along the way. It’s about using that now and building and building. It feels right, this club. I’m really, really happy.”
