Shrewsbury Town 2 – 1 Everton U21s
It’s the EFL Trophy for Everton U21s tonight when they travel to Croud Meadow in Shrewsbury.
Everton U21s are rock bottom of Group E in the Northern section of this season’s EFL Trophy which pits Category 1 Academy U21 sides against three teams from League One and League Two.
Stockport County head the group after their humbling 6-3 win over Everton U21s back in August, but it’s tonight’s hosts, Shrewsbury Town, who are rock bottom of the group after losing to Tranmere Rovers and Stockport County without scoring a goal.
If the Young Blues can secure a win at Croud Meadow, it would put them in a good position to qualify for the Round of 32 by finishing 2nd with Stockport County now certain to win the group after getting two wins with one game to play.
The third game in the group will see them travel across the Mersey to take on Tranmere Rovers toward the end of next month.
The Everton youngsters kept it goalless in the first half but fell behind soon after the break. Substitute Omari Benjamin (84′) got them back in the game but the home side got the winner in added time.
