David Moyes has said he feels disappointed for Evertonians after The Friedkin Group confirmed the club is up for sale.
Everton released a statement on Friday morning confirming external investment is being sought. In the statement, it was stated that TFG would consider the sale of their controlling stake at Hill Dickinson Stadium. TFG added that interest will only be considered by ‘the right stewards to take the club forward’.
“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the club forward and build on the momentum that has been established,” the statement read.
The news places Everton in a period of uncertainty, and Moyes said he sympathises with the fanbase. Asked whether he felt personally let down by the owners, given the project he was sold on when he returned in 2025, the Scot said his ‘love’ for the club means he’d never have turned down the offer to return.
“No because I love this club. They could have sold me it at any time and I’d still have taken it,” he said at his pre-Hull press conference.
“But it’s for Evertonian’s that I am more disappointed. They have been through so many difficult periods and the last thing they really wanted to hear was this.
“Last season there wasn’t much drama. We didn’t have any relegation problems. There was a bit of drama with money that we had to pay for Burnley, but in the main we have done well over the last year and starting to get back in the right footing. Challenging at the right end of the league.
“I’m disappointed that Evertonians have to go through another period of ‘who are our owners’.”
Moyes is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, but said he has not throught about how an ownership change could impact his own future.
“I’ve not really thought about it yet from that point of view. The players have been great so far and we will keep them focused on what we’ve got to do and what we can do which is trying to win games.
“I always think Evertonian’s are galvanized more when there’s a situation where they know the team and manager needs help. We stick together.”
