James Tarkowski believes Everton teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall should be in the ‘England set-up already’ ahead of Friday’s squad announcement.
Thomas Tuchel will name his squad for November’s Nations League fixtures with Croatia and Spain later this week, with Dewsbury-Hall hoping for a first inclusion.
Competition for an attacking midfield role with England is fierce. Jude Bellingham has emerged as arguably England’s most influential player, while Morgan Rogers, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White offer further competition for places.
Dewsbury-Hall was named man of the match during Everton’s 1-0 win at Newcastle on Monday night, and the 28-year-old has been open in his belief that he’s good enough for international football.
Speaking to evertontv, Tarkowski said he shared that view: “I don’t really like praising him because he tells me how good he is all the time,” the Everton captain said.
“No, he’s top level. He really is. I think he’s developed a confidence now where he wants to be the one to make the difference all the time. He takes the ball constantly and he’s been terrific for us.
“I think he should be in the England set-up already. He’s obviously in a position where there’s so much strength in that England set-up already, so it’s tough for him.
“But I see him day in and day out and the quality he brings and also the mentality he brings to the team.
“So, I’m really pleased for him, and all he can do is just keep performing the way he has done, and hopefully [the call-up] will come.”
