Everton’s two current England stars, Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite, were recognised for their excellent form for the Toffees this season in the Club’s awards for 2023-24.
Pickford was once again named Player of the Season based on votes from supporters while Branthwaite picked up the award for Players’ Player of the Season from his team-mates and Young Player of the Season.
Jenson Metcalfe, a frequent sight among the first-team substitites in the latter half of the campaign, won Under-21s Player of the Season while Courtney Brosnan and Heather Payne took the gongs as player and young player for the Women’s team.
Goal of the Season was given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his header that sealed the 2-0 win over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last month, Everton’s first at Goodison Park for 14 years.
While the Club has battled three successive battles against relegation, the most recent due to an eight-point sanction by the Premier League, Pickford has been a model of consistency and has been credited with being a key reason why Everton remain a top-flight side.
The 30-year-old has also been short-listed for the Premier League Save of the Season for his impressive reflex stop that denied Tosin Adarabioyo’s header for Fulham when the two clubs met at Craven Cottage in January.
Branthwaite, meanwhile, had a breakthrough season back in his native England following a hugely beneficial year on loan in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.
The Dutch side were keen to purchase the young Cumbrian on a permanent basis but Everton held firm, with Sean Dyche said to be insistent on keeping him at Goodison, and once he took a starting role in the Toffees’ line-up early this season, he never looked back.
The former Carlisle man made 35 league starts and weighed in with three goals, including one in the derby and a superb finish that would have been the winner at Brighton were it not for a Lewis Dunk equaliser deep into stoppage time.
