Identity Crisis v Bolton

Comments (111)

So which Everton will show up today against Bolton? The one that comprehensively beat Bolton 3 - 0 last season or the one that lost so badly at Goodison against them 4 - 0 a few seasons ago.

On current form the former looks likely especially with Saha back and the pressure for a Europa place somewhat off. But with Everton you really never can be sure.

I have a few observations from being at the game today. We sorely missed the influence of Donovan down the right, Anichebe made a bad mistake in not shooting for goal and immediately his head went down, we actually wondered if he would disappear or get himself booked shortly afterwards, he got injured but had disappeared by that point. Everton tried to play hoofball against the Bolton yard dogs and it was bloody awful to watch. Wiley is still a useless prick who gave us nothing besides a yellow card for our first foul.

Bolton are even the worst hoofball merchants in the league, how the hell they scored four past Wigan is beyond me. But for Jussi Jaaskelainen they would have been buried years ago, a great keeper wasted in a shit team. Jags looked very shaky at the back, Pienaar improved a whole lot in the second half. Yak got loads of stick but for me covered a lot of ground and played for the team again, crucially winning the free kick and getting Steinsson an early bath. A great free kick from Arteta to finally break the deadlock of a game I felt was a nil nil no score bore draw up to that point. Saha came on for an ineffective Cahill and caused lots of problems for the Bolton defence from the off, something we needed to do earlier. Osman replaced the Yak and played some lovely football, very unlucky with his shot which looked like he tried to place rather than put his laces through but made amends with a sublime pull back from the byline for Pienaar to smash into a gaping net. Job done only wish we could play like that for ninety minutes every week.
