Just noticed from BBC sport that Seamus Coleman provided the assist on 3 of Blackpool's 5 goals tonight.
So, is this a brilliant decision to give the lad some proper game time away from all the hype and expectation... or should he be at Goodison giving us a vital edge in the chase for Europe?
Can't decide one way or the other, personally.

I saw this in another forum (from a Blackpool fan addressed to any Everton fans); "Seamus Coleman was like Dani Alves tonight. Maybe I'm going ott a little but he was class. Was brilliant defensively and 1st class going forward. Look out for our 5th goal where he makes a Dani Alves run and lays off Gary Taylor Fletcher for an easy tap in. What a player you have on your hands!!"
I don't care what level you play, to set up 3 goals from right back against any opposition is an OUTSTANDING achievement. We have some player on the books 'ere...
Yes we have. But his impact on this season, which is what the author asks, has been minimal.
It's games like the one tonight that can help mould a player. So yes, look out for him in seasons to come. But not this one.

Blackpool are chasing a play off spot. They drew their last game and lost the one before that. Swansea are several places above them and in the playoff zone.
So, for BFC, this is the equivalent of us thumping Villa 5-1 at home. It's not EPL but not to be sneezed at either especially given that it's Coleman's first run out with a new team.
Seamus Coleman should be doing this for Everton. He's the best right back at the club and should be getting Premier League experience.
He's a tad young for regular 1st team football just yet. Loaning him out for spells is the best way to develop him. It's the same with any youngster.
I haven't seen him produce anything that means he can be considered as our best right back. But he certainly has potential. Next season may see him break into the squad, and i'm excited by that prospect.

I have to admit that I haven't seen any footage but according to match reports, Coleman played a full 90 mins for Blackpool against Swansea. Blackpool are chasing a promotion play-off spot but have lost and drawn their last two games. Swansea are a few places ahead of them.
So, to beat them 5-1 is a pretty good result.
It seems like Coleman put in one of his typical exciting displays. Depending on the report you read, he set up 2 or 3 goals. Either way, seems he had a very good game.

The lad I think is 21 so not so young. This is the level he should be at as the reserves will all due respect is just a youth / development side. so not a step up.
A run of 10 or 12 games till the end of the season will do him no harm and might tip the balance come Aug.

I would like to think that DM knows what he is doing with Seamus.
Say what you like about it being a division lower, but would Hibbert have doen any better? I can see Hibbo now getting nosebleeds down his orange shirt everytime he crossed the half way line!
It was Coleman's second game for Blackpool, he played in saturdays 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace where pool fans said he got better as the game went on. I think it will prove to be a brilliant decision from Moyes to send him out. There is far too much pressure at Everton right now, with chasing Europe. Blackpool are still huge outsiders to make the playoffs, and he can go there, enjoy his football, and if he plays like last night, he will come back to us brimming with confidence.
I'm getting a bit excited about this lad. Strange as haven't seen him play! This lad sounds like he could save us a fortune, if reports are anything to go by. I think its wise having him out on lone. He was sitting on the bench so often as a spectator, so he's watched enough to know what the standard is. We have back up in Hibbo for right back. Let the lad get all the confidence he needs and some useful experience to prepare him for our challenge for the title next year! Here's hoping!

I can only go from the evidence of my own eyes. He came on after 15 minutes against Tottenham and was the best player on the pitch. Not just my opinion but the collective one in the pub after the game. Then he had 15 minutes against Burnley, played with verve, tenacity and helped to create the opening goal. The coaching staff see these guys every day so if they think a loan to Blackpool is best for him then fine... but he looks on the evidence to me to be the best right back at the club and should be playing for us.

He is certainly a gifted youngster and posesses the correct attributes to help propel him into a first team regular in the EPL, but needs to taste leagues like TC so he is aware that like so many he will ply his trade there if he doesn't perform consistantly when his opportunities arise.

I work with 2 Blackpool season ticket holders and they have said that he struggled in the first half against Palace, but the second half and the whole game against Swansea he was outstanding.

No doubt Moyes view is that Shay needs to up his defensive game before he can be considered other than in emergencies.With ace defenders like Neville and Hibbert ahead of him,I don`t expect to see him in action any time soon.
Firstly we should remember that there's a world of difference playing in the Championship against Swansea compared to taking on Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd in the Premier League.

I watched the game and he was doing exactly the same thing as he did against Spurs, he is a defender who is a nightmare for defenders! Quality player and it doesn't make a difference what level he's playing at he plays the same way and produces the same result.
Interesting to see in that Blackpool forum that Moyes went along to the game to watch Coleman play himself. Say what you like about Moyes, you cannot fault his dedication, that's really impressive. Good that the lad played well too.

Would be a big ask for Moyes to drop his established former international fullback and club captain for a 21 year old in his first season with the club who has done well going forward in a couple of games... Personally I'd like to see Coleman given a run at right wing some time in any case, especially now Donovan is gone. He seems a more natural attacking player.

Dick, Osman was recalled from Derby as DM had no fit midfielders left to play, at the time Derby were desperate to buy him but DM's hands were tied at the time and he was forced into taking him back

On the other hand DM is far too conservative and unwilling to take a risk and play him when he has old reliable pure defenders not wing backs available so he'd at best warm the bench unless Neville got injured no matter what.

Last night saw an even better performance from him. Very willing to attack at every opportunity which sometimes saw him get caught when he lost possession but his assist for the second goal was delightful and the 5th goal was reminiscent of his surging run against Spurs slicing through the Swansea defence and then sending in a wonderful pass at pace for the forward to convert.
He is still very raw and his defending is way below Premier League standard at the moment, but more matches under his belt will allow him to gain vital experience and defensive know how.
He has a decent touch, is confident on the ball and his raw energy, eagerness to bomb forward at every opportunity and crossing ability make him an ideal attacking wing back.
With more games under his belt and a decent pre-season I think he is likely to get more opportunities next season and give Moyes more options in defence and attack.

Re the big leap up to the Premier League/Top Flight. I am sure that it was just a big a leap — if not a bigger one — for Steve Heighway back in 1970. He went from playing Non-League Football for Skem to playing for Liverpool.
I think he played in an FA Amatuer Cup Semi Final in 1969 and 2 years later ( sadly for those of us who recall the 1971 Semi-Final) he played in and scored in an FA Cup Final.
There's also a certain Kevin Keegan — he was playing in the 4th Division for Scunthorpe. He went virtually straight from that to play for Liverpool in the Top Flight.
I believe Coleman to be a better all-round player than Hibbert. Phil Neville is a fine player and a fine Everton skipper. But will he be playing at right back in say 5 years time? Coleman in my opinion is a future Irish international. If Moyes doesn't give him more opportunities we may see him move on and give us cause to regret the loss of a talented player.
The history of the game is littered with examples of fine players who have been so-called late starters/who have played at a high level after playing in the lower leagues. We have unearthed a "gem" here — let's make sure we keep hold of him.
So what makes you think Neville is the safer option against those players you listed Dick?

I personally find it a disgrace that such a poor footballer is Captain of our great club. He is behind both Hibbert and Coleman for me. At least Hibbert can defend! And Coleman can attack! Neville has no pace & cant pass water let alone a football. Add to that the amount of times he has been hopelessly caught out of position this season. The sooner he is dropped or sold(wishful thinking, I know!) the better.

To be honest mate I'd go with Phil Neville everyday and twice on Sunday's.
Coleman may be the future but for right now I'd choose Phil Neville because you can always count on him.
James Stuart, although I don't think Phil Neville is the best player in the world, I do think your being slightly harsh there, mate!
I think Coleman will be our long term right back but at the moment Phil is doing a good job; he isn't as positive as Coleman going forward and, like I said, he isn't the greatest footballer in the world... but you can always count on him — he is consistent and he really hasn't played that badly at all this season. He's a lot better at right back than he is as a midfielder anyway — that's for sure!!
Dick - was Coleman the only one slaughtered by Benfica ? A bit much to put the blame for that match down to one player.
