Inevitable Conjecture: Moyes to Celtic?

Just saw the news today that Celtic have parted company with Tony Mowbray. The inevitable question will be who will replace him. With our Davey's Celtic connection, it is inevitable that he will forever be linked with this post.
I, for one, think that one day he will join the Glasgow former giants but not now. He has a close relationship with the chairman and I truly believe that he loves the Blues. He has recently said that possibly qualifying this year for the Europa Cup would be his biggest achievement to date and I am convinced that the best squad that he has seen in eight years can win trophies under his management.
He also has a lucrative contract and probably has more transfer money available to spend than Celtic. Lets also not forget that this team that he has built has the quality, youth and spirit to certainly be challenging again for a top 4 - 6 spot next season.

Why would any manager in the EPL go to manage in that back water league? Especially someone as good as DM who is building something great at L4 4EL

Just don't read Henry Winter in the Daily Torygraph .. every time he writes about the Sky 4 he encourages them to get DM and forget about foreign managers.

If Moyes leaves Everton in the next 2 years I'll get a Liverpool tattoo.
Scottish football:
- Shite (compare it to managing the best Everton squad I remember, I'm only 30!)
- No money (would have to take a massive pay cut!)
- No money (wouldn't be able to bring in his own players!)
- Extra Pressure (Finishing second is not enough, if he were to have a bad season here it would probably be accepted!)
Everyone knows they just don't have the quality up there. He may manage up there at the tail end of his career but not for a long time yet.

We do love the smell of our own shite don't we? He was just about good enough to be Celtic manager a few months back. Up there he'd have a job keeping a huge club focused against poor oposition every week while challenging in Europe every year. If he's ambitous surely he'd thrive on the pressure. And Ajay, let's not get into who are/aren't a big club cos the Blues are hardly in the position to do so.
Moyes will only go back to Celtic if they where in the Premier League, and I personally can't see that being allowed to happen any time soon.

Most managers in the SPL would cut their cock off to get a move to a Premier League club, any prem club in fact. Owen Coyle chose Bolton over Celtic for fucks sake! There is no way Moyes would go there in the forseeable future. The Celtic post will likely be his retirement job when he can't take the pace of real football anymore. Oh, and Shane Corcoran, no offence mate, but in what parallel universe have Celtic been "challenging in Europe every year"?

John, to clarify, he'd have the chance to challenge because they'd be there. Gordon Strachan saved Celtic millions, won 3 titles and got into the last 16 of the Champions League in 3 years there and I reckon Moyes is a better manager than Strachan. He's been 8 years at Everton and most posters on here reckon he's gone as far as he can, until we started winning recently that is. And Dick, you could ask the same question about the English Premier League. Only 3 teams have won a 20 team league in 15 years.
I think Moyes is an evertonian and hence, can't see him going anywhere. Only reason he'd go is if he thought he couldn't take us any further forward and I think he believes we're on the cusp of greatness

Wont happen. Mick Pedley got it spot on and given surely Celtic cant afford Moyes's £60k per week, especially as they paid £2m compensation to West Brom and will have had to pay Mowbray a considerable pay off for sacking him so soon.

Lennon in the short term then another Scottish Pub League manager or former player managing in the lower leagues down here, no money and a tin pot league not enough of an attraction for a decent name, the Auld Firm manager's job is a retirement home shot.
Whilst the SPL might be a 2 horse race these days Celtic are a huge club- we could only dream of pulling 60000 every home game. The problem they and Rangers have is trying to compete with the TV revenues/coverage of the Premier League (and Spain/Italy/etc) and consequently being unable to get in quality players etc. WHEN, not IF, the Glasgow clubs move to the PL, and the money men who control the game these days WILL make it happen sooner rather than later, these restrictions will be removed and the 2 clubs, after a few years catch up, will be up there with the red mancs, Arsenal, Chavs and (hopefully) us. fighting for the PL title (with the RS in the Championship we can but dream!). Moyes won't go to Celtic-yet- but things change. Scottish football as a whole may be crap but Celtic as a club are something else entirely.

No point in even mentioning this non-story. Moyes earns 3.5 million a year at Everton and has over 3 years left on his contract. Celtic couldnt afford the buy-out for a start. They will go for Lennon as a cheap option, or pluck anybody thats doing half decent elsewhere in Scotland.
I count 4 winners at least: Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Blackburn.

Kind've losing track of the argument here but in the past 15 years (if you include the eventual winners of this season) there have only been 3 winners. Blackburn won it in 95. Shane Corcoran is right in my eyes for what its worth (on that point anway)
Shane someone like Lambert, they couldn't afford Moyes' current wages at the San Giro. Steve Fletcher, Celtic and Rangers get admirable attendances; you only have to drive down the A9 on a match night and see coachloads of Rangers fans from Inverness and further afield heading to the game which might even be against some diddy side but winning the SPL is worth £1m, in the current market that wouldn't even pay wages, the homecoming cup and other odds and ends similarly worth hee haw hence neither side last long in the chumpions league.
Gavin, my problem with your post and the original one, is the air of snobbery against the Scottish League. The English League is better because it's marketed better. Everything else followed from there. And GJ thank you for pointing out the stats that I was referring to.
Shane it's not snobbery, I worked for three years in Scotland and watched loads of games up there. Rangers and Celtic being considerably better than the remainder but piss poor by EPL standards and neither would be anything other than also rans and even relegation fodder if they did join. The remaining sides are rubbish having seen them in the flesh so all claims of snobbery aside they wouldn't be anything better than what you see in lower leagues here, if it wasn't having to play the old firm so many times a season most would have gone bust already and where in the EPL would a side have to give an entire side of the stadium to away fans for a league game?
Gavin, the attendences bu8t the lack of money is the point I was making. Eventually, because of the level of support of the Glasgow clubs, they will move to play in England (whatever the rights and wrongs of that happening). Their current turnover is minute compared to the PL clubs but ONLY because of the Sky/Overseas deals. IN the PL they become money magnets- that then changes the game for them, making them more attractive to overseas TOP players, better managers etc- a virtuous circle. I'm not in the least worried Moyes will go to them now- but they will be a different proposition I think in a minimum of 5 years time.
