Arteta for England ?

So Fabio Capello was at the Wolves game on Saturday, supposedly running the rule over a couple of Everton players, and perhaps wanting to catch one certain little Spaniard who unfortunately could not make it.

Now this question is aimed at all Evertonians, but is probably more pertinent for England fans: Would you like to see him get a call up for the England national side?

Personally, as an Evertonian first and foremost, I would like him to wait for the Spanish to come calling, which I think is inevitable regardless of the quality they have as he is definitely up there with the best of them. Also I would hate to think of him being influenced by the likes of Cashley Cole, Stevire G and the likes...

Stuart, It doesn't matter if FabCap comes calling or not. Arteta will never play for another country other than Spain, end of.

He has stated this before when the suggestion was out there. I'd say he was looking at Baines and Jags if at anyone at all. These suggestions he might come calling for Arteta are laughable.

I think playing for Spain would be a comprimise he would be willing to accept... playing for England would be just plain daft.

The man's a Basque... jingoistic in extremis.

Ciaran, you are right about Mikel being a Basque, and that itself is why he would show no interest.

Ciaran, I don't think you can call the Basques jingoistic for having a strong national identity and pride in their autonomous history and culture. Not wanting to play for another nation is not the same as upholding a fervent nationalism and an aggressive foreign policy.

Mikel would play for Spain at the drop of a hat, regardless of whether he feels that El Pais Vasco should be an independent nation state.

It's the truth, Mr Duff — heard it from a friend who knows a guy whose brother's girlfriend works in Pizza Express in Wolverhampton where Capello ordered dough balls, an American Hot pizza & a bottle of red after the game on Saturday. He told the waiter that he was really impressed with Ossie but he is gutted Hibbo still isn't fit. Plus, this guy is correct 60% of the time all the time!!!
