So according to the dailies Stephen Pienaar is looking for a potential move to a top 4 club so he can play Champions League football. I can't knock any player wanting to move to improve their game or the chance to win trophies. If he went and we managed to get £13 million, who would be the ideal replacement?

I could certainly blame him.
When David Moyes came a year or so ago he made it clear that he had originally seen Pienaar as a back-up, but had been delighted how he had come on.
When Bill Kenwright came, in a throw away remark he noted how Arteta had never played as well for other managers as he had for David Moyes.
Thinking about it, with the possible exception of Always-a-Blue Voldemort, has any player improved having left David Moyes’s Everton? Our manager seems to have a knack of spotting people’s strengths and giving them the confidence to play to these strengths. A significant number of players who, although good to average, might have underperformed elsewhere, have improved at Everton. Examples would be: Heitinga; Lescott; Arteta; Pienaar; Jagielka; and even Marcus Bent, and there are many others).
If Pienaar has any sense, he’ll stay where he is.
In my opinion, we should keep him for next season whether he signs a contract or not as I believe with him we have a chance of top 4 next season. What we would get for him now wouldn't even pay a year's wages of a decent player.
If he wants to do a Shaun Wright Philips, then ta ra lad. Good player that is at his level where he is.
I'm still waiting for the one special player who rejects a big-money move and remains where he's happy. I'm not asking for Steve Bull-level loyalty here, just a demonstration of common sense over blind greed. Somehow, the contradictory Mr Peanuts (woman trouble, too much booze for that petite frame, INSANE love of God) doesn't strike me as such a trailblazer. If only Steven would just stop and ask himself "What would Jesus do?" I'm sure he'd be told by the dude with the white beard that he should stay at Goodison because the trophies are just around the corner.
Awwww, what am I talking about? I wouldn't be surprised if he's already bought a City shirt. I just hope that Moyesie really fucks Gary Cook sideways with a chainsaw on this one. £20 million? Why not? And get it sorted before August for crying out loud.
I'd hate for Pienaar to go because he and Arteta really are the creative heartbeat of our side. If either one is missing, we don't look the same team.
I've never met the guy so I have no idea if he would want to earn a place in the CL with Everton or jump ship for a side that has already qualified.
But, he seems to play with a smile on his face at Everton, so here's hoping...
While I don't think Pienaar is as influential for us as he himself perhaps believes, the disruptive effect in removing yet another building block in the Everton team that needs to be firing on all cylinders come August and for the entire season just fills me with dread.
Man Utd: Valencia/Nani and JS Park - Valencia and Nani can be brilliant when they feel like however are too inconsistent, and Park's work ethic is top notch however ability wise is lacking - therefor Pienaar would definately get a place in their team.
Arsenal: Malouda and Anelka - a bit weird this one as obviously Anelka is a striker and Malouda is not far off being a striker, so for winger/midfield attributes Pienaar would easily fit in.
Arsenal: Arshavin, Nasri, Rosicky - a tough one this as these are all spot on, however for winger attributes Pienaar is more accomplished - therefor would get a place.
Redshite: Pienaar would walk into their team as the "might" of Kuyt / Riera / Babel collectively aren't as good as Pienaar.
He would get into Man City's and Spur's team... however Villa have Young and Milner, in which I think the latter is very similar to Pienaar.
Not withstanding the above however, I hope he thinks he wouldn't get a place if he moves and ends up staying!
COYB
Pienaar would get into Utds, Arsenals or Citys midfield, possibly not Chelsea on a regular basis!
You really mean to say, after the latter part of this season, that you'd swap him for Park, for example?
He's been one of our main stars and IF Arteta had been in from the start he wouldnt need to leave to achieve CL football!
Murf
We are finally not building on sand and to lose Pienaar from this squad would set us back far more than some posters think.
If we are to have any chance of success we need to build on to what we've got not break it up.
Whilst clearly something went on at the start of this season, should we continue to fall for smokescreen that it was all Lescott’s fault? What team doesn’t face constant disruption as regards transfer speculation with agents holding out for more money, especially in the lead up to the transfer deadline? The Manure had it for in excess of a year with Ronaldo and it’s hardly cramped their style. In the year we lost Voldemort (and think back to all the pre season disruption then) it was followed by our best season for a long time. The Lescott saga is a convenient excuse, but I don’t think it’s the full reason for what went on.
If Moyes hasn't learned from the Lescott debacle then we really are doomed!
Am surprised you don't see Pienaar as central to the side though? As a devotee to on-the-deck football, what player (bar possibly Arteta... and arguably actually Heitinga) contributes more?
As I'm sure you'll agree, we're far more effective when we don't resort to hoofball, and Pienaar is one of the players most adept linking play with the ball at his feet, surely?!
The number of players that we've had of late with knee ligament damage can't be a coincidence, can it?
We got Distin, Heitinga and Billy for 1 guy.
Yes, he does a few nice tricks down the left wing, and that certainly makes us look better than we do without him... but it''s the end result that is too often lacking, be it the killer pass or the power shot on goal.
Of course he's done a few... or he wouldn't be in the team at all, but it sounds like he might be believing his own press and this idea that he is South Africa's star player is bound to magnify the size of his head somewhat.
It would be nice to just ignore the crap as newspaper speculation, sure in the knowledge that he will sign a new contract... but a similar scenario did nothing to stop the Lescott saga from developing the way it did — it just made sure we could ask a massive price for him. Can't see that daylight robbery going down again though, somehow!
I just think it is hugely important for David Moyes to keep his team together — I felt at the time that was his biggest beef about Lescott. Yes, in hindsight, the end result £24M and three players, including Bily and Heitinga is way more than fair exchange... but there are simply no guarantees next time around. And the further delay while we bed in and train up these new players just knocks the clock back another 3... 6... 9 months.
Next season is our season, our opportunity. It must be firmly grasped with both hands.
The reason Peanuts is having the time of his life is because the club and the manager allow him to.
If he went to Harry the second-hand car dealer in North London or, God forbid, the fat fucker next door when he plays his 'Get out of Jail' card and pisses off to Italy, or the Trash with Cash at Eastlands, Peanuts will just disappear down the plug hole of mediocrity. Lescott is a classic example — as was Tommy Gravesen when he went to Madrid.
If a player is looking at contract negotiations, the agent leeks a story to the press that X is interested and willing to pay Y per week. Par for the course.
I can't see SA setting the World Cup alight, and in a struggling side, Pienaar either.
His end product isn't always good but that's most wide players for you. His workrate and link-up play with Baines is often our best source for attack. He's improved year on year, and hopefully next year he can add a few more goals to his game. We're better with him than without him, and we're trying to build on what we've got, not replace them year on year.
I do enjoy watching Pienaar, but he doesnt seem to be as creative as what his footballing style suggests. But I think Moyes is already aware of his situation, and will have 2 or 3 targets lined up to replace him should he leave. I don't feel concerned either way actually. We could do a whole lot worse than Pienaar, but we could also do better. If Moyes has a target lined up, it could mean why the club are not exactly rushing to sign him on to a new deal.
That said though, I would be happy for him to stay if he can improve his final pass and shooting. But his work ethic is something that is excellent, and an inspiration to the rest of the team.
Some people wouldn`t recognise a player if he ran through their living room with his muddy boots on.
A few years ago the Observer used to publish teams based on tabloid transfer rumours, the Sky 4 invariably had a team with anything up to 24 players. If Pienaar goes he goes, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Next to Arteta, he is the most influence attacking player in the club and I would be gutted if he left.
However, the lesson from last season is, that if the player wants out, then get the best deal quickly and move on quickly.
Then reality kicks in!
Dragging it out for so long was far from ideal, especially considering we were forced into using players like Baxter and Neville/Hibbert as a CB.
In that sense only, I'd qualify it as a "debacle". Not in terms of how we profited, obviously.
Regarding Pienaar's merit... Michael, I can honestly say I'm surprised — not saying you're wrong necessarily - but I thought you would appreciate his contribution to the pass-and-move style of football you always seem to so strongly advocate.
In my eyes:
Though Pienaar may sometime lack end product, his ability to help us retain possession when a more panicked player would squander it, his ability to take opposition players out of the game with a little shift of the feet, and the ways he links with Baines to create havoc down the left flank — all suggest he's a very, very important player.
Sometimes, a player's gifts are subtle ones — but important nonetheless.
Indeed, I'm also very impressed with his high-tempo pressing of opponents — a very useful trick to help regain possession.
That's my two pennies, anyway, I think the side would miss him massively were he to leave. But thankfully, as it stands, this is nothing more than speculation.
We might as well discuss what happened in the fucking Beano this week.
Stop reading shite papers!
The Shite can't afford him!
This lad is brilliant, quick, dynamite shooting, tricky and although small he is stocky and hard to shake off the ball. He currently plays for Udinese so he could be bought before he gets a bigger club. He is one to watch at the World Cup, I think he and Chile will be excellent to watch this summer.
If he wants success then I implore him to stay at Everton because with the right buys this time we are on the verge of good times.
If he's going to go though nothing can stop it and I'd only hope it's done quickly and with good grace. Soccer is a very dirty business now from clubs who are trading while technically insolvent, greedy overpaid players, greedier agents, fans with ridiculous expectations and no place for loyalty or continuity.
I love the little guy and the part he plays for us but if he goes, he goes and we have to get on with it. The Gosling injury is very disappointing though.
Pienaar has one year left. Mr Moyes, do not sell him. If he wants to go, next season MUST be the best season of his career. Keep him and let his (assumed) desperation to attract Top 4 attention benefit EFC. The so-called Sky 4 is watching and, presumably, wanting him? He needs to play his ass off, doesn't he?
Myself, I think DM throws a few extra bucks at a few players in trying to keep a building side intact and have a go at EPL Silverware in 2011. It's there to be had and we have the talent to grab it.
And bring back Donovan.
If Shrek can leave a club he supported and played for as a boy, then we've NO CHANCE at all of keep players that want to leave.
Unless we get investment we've gone as far as we can go imo. Get used to it as it won't get any better than finishing 5th and getting to a Cup Final (like last season).
Take up golf - that way you have only yourself to blame if you fuck it up.....
