World Cup Bid
Comments (52)
It's only hours away now, but does anyone know what it will mean to us if the England bid is successful?
Liverpool are one of the chosen "Host Cities" but I originally thought this was dependant on the other lot building their new ground on Stanley Park? If their new owners decide against building a new stadium, as they've been suggesting, what does that mean for the City? Will Anfield by automatically chosen or will Goodison be back in with a shout? Will funding be available for redevolpment or a new stadium?
I know its unlikley that Anfield wouldn't be chosen, but if we have any chance then now's the time to begin redevelopment of Goodison in an attempt to win the bid and possibly secure additional funding.

Qatar wins the bid over the US... Hmmm, let me think, better sporting destination for the summer, the middle-eastern desert or sunny Los Angeles or Florida? Honestly, football is just a joke these days. The whole system is a corrupt joke.

Football has officially gone mad and the enjoyment is no longer there for me, shocking!!
11 Posted 02/12/2010 at 16:37:53
Having said all that, it should have been Russia and Australia.

Sepp Blatter is a joke and he is ruining Football. To be honest I think am going to boycott the next World Cup. England arn't going to win anyway (although it would just be my luck that they actually do).
15 Posted 02/12/2010 at 17:21:43
Beckham, the Royal Family, Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell ? who?

17 Posted 02/12/2010 at 17:29:43
Well that takes the piss. What could have cost that much? Please tell my we didn't have to actually pay Beckham to back our bid and lobby on our behalf?
18 Posted 02/12/2010 at 17:32:38
The country is deep in the shit with plenty of people who could have done with that £500m spunking on jobs rather than a daydream for the three clowns; Cameron (no clue whatsoever what it is to be a grass roots fan), Beckham (doesn't even live here anymore) and Prince whatever his name is (yeah Charlie's kid not Ding Dong's)

Having said all that, I can't say that I am too sorry that a bid that used places like Milton Keynes ( fake club ) and Anfield to stage games has failed.
Fifa can keep the world cup. International football is becoming a backwater anyway. What a crap tournament we had to suffer this year.

Qatar also haven't won, that was won by Slavery, Sharia law and a ruling monarchy with little regard for human rights.
If FIFA delegates think that's the end of English press interference in their affairs, corruption then they are mistaken.
I don't really give a toss about international football not since the game changed beyond recognition with the introduction of players that wear snoods!
I was hoping Holland and Belgium had got the cup as we could have at least seen a few good fights!
It's good to see families at games but I preferred to see competitions that teams like Derby, Villa and Everton could win. Sky's money has destroyed the validity of the sport.
I would even go back to being cattle herded to shed like stadiums to watch players who only earned 10 times the average and not 150 times.

For what is it worth I think Russia should do a good job and I am glad that Spain - Portugal didn't win. Euro Champs, World Champs and then the WC...next they'll be banging on about having the best domestic leagues!!
28 Posted 02/12/2010 at 19:45:16
Absolute bollocks.. !!
£15million was spent in order to gain the world cup which would have generated £3.3 billion to the U .K economy.
As a Welsh Blue, I can honestly say I couldn't give a flying fuck about International football, as there's nothing worse than going to the boozer seeing loads of dick head lads in England tops pretending to care, whilst their fat arsed birds cry and scream at the screen when it all goes Pete Tong.
Fuck England, Wales Russia and all that shite...
Nil Satis nisi optimum
Moyes out.
29 Posted 02/12/2010 at 20:00:53
Sacking Capello and appointing Harry Redknapp, probably.
30 Posted 02/12/2010 at 19:45:59
I wonder if Sharia law will be relaxed so ordinary fans can enjoy alcoholic drinks. A major source of income to FIFA from advertising.
As for the next World Cup in England, if I'm still alive that is.
31 Posted 02/12/2010 at 19:53:04
I can't find any info on the internet which details the actual financing of the bid.
32 Posted 02/12/2010 at 19:34:31
Fifa, Uefa, The PL, the 'Champions' League - all of it fucking reeks.
The game today is about fiddling, cheating, greedy agents and greedy shithouse players.
Due to force of habit (or something that involves no rational thought) I can't leave Everton alone, but even we're run by people PROVEN morally bankrupt.
So Russia, Qatar, Jibrovia, Timbucthree, Ingurlund?
Same difference.
Do I think Russia and Qatar are corrupt and bent?
Absolutely, but so what - just about all our elected representatives were recently collared for fiddling the fuck out of us FOR YEARS.
Then when they were caught, they pleaded ignorance!
I'll take the Russians, at least there seems a sort of honesty..about their dishonesty
(and by the way, the fact that our last major crowd problem at a match was...er last night, couldn't have impressed too many).

International football is run by greedy wankers and mainly played by greedy wankers.
And that last World Cup was shit. Played in a footballing backwater and half the players couldn't be arsed as they have so much money anyway and that's all they are worried about. International football is best ignored in the main.
Cynical? Too bloody right I am!
43 Posted 02/12/2010 at 23:16:14
To say that Russia had the best bid or indeed that Qatar is a football Mecca is an absolute joke. It's disgraceful that only two votes were cast in England's favour. It's time that honesty and integrity were introduced and that each bidder is ranked and given points on a number of areas regarding their bid. Let's see who and what and why.
It's incredible... such a bad joke.

I trust the Mayans more than FIFA.
46 Posted 03/12/2010 at 01:24:28
It would have been an endless stream of complete media bulshit and soul-destroying banalities. Just how much Hansen, Shearer and god knows who else could we have put up with... Russia is just fine wih me.

An AK47?
49 Posted 03/12/2010 at 12:29:49
At the end of the day, Russia were the favourites from the off, and guess what? The favourites won.
50 Posted 03/12/2010 at 12:43:02
For reasons better known to the authorities, we got the Russia v West Germany game instead. That did not bother me too much at the time as to be able to watch a World Cup semi-final in your own city was brilliant.
So maybe Fifa have that on record...
51 Posted 03/12/2010 at 16:56:28
Incidently, those who joined the media "hard on" because of Becks, Wills and Camo you need to get out more, these are the same pricks who say Moyes is a great manager en route to ManU.
52 Posted 03/12/2010 at 21:26:43
Meanwhile, fuck Everton.
