Getting Our Name Out
Comments (16)
As a season ticket holder from Northern Ireland, I find myself bemused each time I travel to Liverpool Airport at the lack of our name about the place. It has been brought up on here before about the lack of nous from our club promoting us etc, but I find it quite alarming that at our own airport we are not mentioned at all.
Outside the main building, the Red Shite have a huge poster board up advertising stadium tours and ticket prices etc, and inside have many merchandise on sale.
They may well have more supporters than us around the world but in Northern Ireland, Everton have the biggest single membership in a supporters club than any other side in England. It may not be such a big deal to some but for me it's our city as much as theirs, and if we can't even promote our name properly in the city, and in an airport were thousands of tourists etc come through each week, then the club is as badly run as I feared.

Fully agree. We seem to be embarrassed to talk about ourselves.
Baffling.
The marketing team anywhere else would get the chop - but with limited resources and a team finishing outside the top six what more can you expect.
Our marketing team have always been useless, we certainly dont get any real media attention for fucks sake MOTD always put the football in the community section on before us.....and I remember in 85 when we won the league and Grandstand was the only real sports programme .....that twat with the porno tash...Des whatshisname....on one particular Sat results round-up never even mentioned our result.....and we was top!!!........
Great point Stephen and well made, have you thought about writing to the club? At the bottom of the Official website under "contact us" is a list of email's and phone numbers. I live in Glasgow and the airport is Celtic/Rangers central. They make a fortune selling stuff to holiday makers and match goers, both coming in and going out. I know when I take the kids away they always wanna buy something. And there is no excuse for a lack of a billboard or posters etc. Anyway good luck.
We are not a fashionable club with glits and glamour unfortunately, we are drifting toward mediocrity - we need a cup win - to show the city of liverpool how real supporters celebrate, then we may just be taken seriously again - as for marketing the airport is a school boy error, no merchandising or billboards? - maybe the reason we get overlooked is because any potential investor would not give us a second look after arriving in Liverpool to buy us, only to see liverpool fc splattered everywhere
It could be that we don't have the same number of fans coming to the game by plane or that many Evertonians flying in to visit Liverpool.
Also we haven't won anything in close to a decade so the posters would look a little dated if they put in the actual "winners" of something.
Plus our tour will most probably be crap anyway, with our coach breaking down and the food stone cold and the drinks warm.
Tony, just because we haven't won anything for for well over 10 years,, may not have as many fans flying to home games, doesn't mean we shouldn't have some banners or posters etc in Liverpool airport.
It's an absolute joke. Another reason why those in charge need to go ...Now!
As embarrassing as having to watch that fucking advert every week at Goodison with Jamie Twatnapp on it, can you imagine the RS having an advert with Rooney on it shown at Mordor?
It seems the only time they get anything right is when the fans get shouting at them.
The Liverpool One store is one such thing due to the stick the club received, they got this store going and now finally we see the dickheads getting our new kits out ready for the summer holidays ? we normally bring them out in time for winter ? and no pink, this again was down to the stick from the fans.
Maybe it is about time they started speaking to the supporters more, but if he cannot be arsed with shareholders meetings, he certainly won't with a few pub-going blues.
How has such a successful and historic club become such a complete Fuck-Up from start to finish. It's so saddening that just 2 chairman and the present one inparticular have got away with doing this to the Great Everton Football Club.
Still........he's a blue, Boys Pen etc etc.
I will contact the club about this, Simon, mate... something has to change about how they market our club ? it really is appalling.
There is simply no excuse for not having a presence at the airport.
Excellent point, Stephen. Marketing can begin on a small scale. On a tiny scale, 100 people see an Everton ad at the airport, they go to the game to sample a Liverpool experience. Twenty-five of them love it, tell their friends and it slowly multiplies. There should be discount vouchers, free programmes, anything that can make Everton part of a Liverpool tour.
Did Paul McCartney ever show that he liked Everton? (A genuine question, by the way.) This is not lack of imagination by marketing at Everton, it is lack of fundamental skill.
I didn't even know there was a Liverpool Airport, there you go then.
I emailed Everton about this and received a reply this morning:
Hi Graham,
We are in negotiations with Liverpool Airport and hope to conclude those conversations on Friday. We then will achieve your objective of having a presence in the building, both advertising and retail.
Regards
Gary
The more we speak out, the more will be done.
Graham, whilst I agree with your sentiment I doubt this post had anything to do with the clubs interest in the airport.
