If he can score against Benfica shouldn't he be pushing Anichebe & Beckford for a place in our starting line-up?

He's getting good experience. 4 goals in 12 games. Perhaps he'll get around the fringes of the first team if he has a good pre-season.

Maybe a good partnership with Hallum Hope in 4 or 5 years? Little and large.

So the kid can score a couple of goals in the Portugese league which is equivalent to the English First Division.

He's, like, the Portugese Jermaine Beckford.

It's the equivalent of the Premier League in Portugese level, and he scored 2 against Benfica, who we couldn't score in a brothel against.

Promising though, and a good experience, hopefully will be given a chance next season.

Rahman, is this the same league that provided 3 of the last 4 in the Europa Cup or the same Benfica that thrashed us 7-0 on aggregate the season before last?

Sorry about that, Rahman ? I didn't mean to set anyone up but you certainly walked right into it.

Personally I wasn't thinking too much about the relevance of the Portuguese League but how we could have done with a player like this against lower league opposition like... er... Brentford and... er... Reading. Who knows ? we might have lifted the FA Cup!

Rahman, Portugal is the 6th best league in Europe. Based on recent European competitions, I would say Benfica is better than Everton. Probably on par with Sitteh and the Arse. So it's a pretty big deal that he was able to get a brace.

This is what I love about Toffeeweb. You can post what you want (as long as you don't call someone a kopite) but if you say something disagreeable, you'll have people call you out on it.

Happy for the lad and hope he helps us in the future. However let us not get too carried away, I remember a Brazilian lad by the name of Jo scoring a brace for us on his debut!

Anyway here's to next season. It may have depressed the hell out me at times this year but I'll be back for 2011-12 hoping for good things.

Let's look on the positive side of this. Hopefully means we've pulled out another good one out of the bag on the cheap.

Think the loan move can often do a lot of good in certain situations (see Coleman this season).

Looks good from that, the kind of goals we should have been tucking away this season and haven't. Unexpected bright spot of the weekend.

All positive as far as I can see. The first goal showed good awareness and pace and the second bravery.

Worst case scenario he hasn't settled in England (a la Bily) and we sell him back to a Portuguese club, where he is building a good reputation. We will more than get our money back.

Best case scenario he goes on to play first team football for us and we solve our striker crisis with him and Velios at a combined cost of less than £1million.

Yeah, well that's what everybody said about Bily when he first arrived. Look how big of a dissapointment he had turned out to be??

It's encouraging that the lad had scored a few goals but unfortunately I have to agree with the naysayers on this one: 4 goals in a poor league doesn't really mean a great deal.

That's not to say the lad can't come good, though.

For those interested, he only started 7 of the last 12 games and it was coming on as a sub in the game before Benfica did he actually score. So he's actually scored 3 in his last 2 games. It's great that he's scored... Just a shame the season is drawing to an end as he appears to be in form.

Although Benfica finished 2nd in the league, from the games I watched I think their performances weren't fantastic. When it was realised way early on that no-one was going to catch Porto, it's a fair assessment that perhaps they concentrated their efforts on the Europa League.

Yes it's Benfica and scoring against them is not to be sniffed at but this late in the season it's arguable that Vic or Becks could have scored against them as well. But it never happened so we will never know.

Silva did score and I hope it improves his confidence and it gives a kick up the backside to the others.
