Let me nail my colours firmly to the mast. I am not a Salford bedsit-dweller, an employee of Everton Football Club, a keyboard warrior, a bullshiter, or worse still a kopite –  as some people on here seem to have me down as.

I am simply a lifelong supporter, who has been attending the match for four decades and who happens to be in a position of information regarding a deal to buy Everton Football Club. The fact that the deal has not been completed leads me to the conclusion that it will not happen.

For what its worth, I will provide you with what I know on the takeover situation. When I posted six months ago, the situation was that the prospective buyers were going through due diligence, meeting the asking price, and providing proof of funds, All of this was carried out and all boxes were ticked.

From the information I have, not only was the full asking price agreed, all debts were to be paid off and a large war chest of funds provided, amounting to tens of millions of pounds (they are rich but not billionaires). The reason the deal has yet to be concluded is THE question that needs to be asked.

I am totally frustrated that details of this deal have not come out into the mainstream media, forcing the board into some sort of transparency over the sale.  When pressed to answer questions on whether there was a deal on the table, it amused me to hear Bill Kenwright come out a few months ago and say "Yes, someone has come forward today..."

I totally understand the scepticism about someone coming on here with information of this nature but if  someone at the EGM could pose the question: Is there as deal on the table? ... and, if so,  Why has it not been accepted?  I would love someone to dare the Chairman to deny there is a deal on the table. I look forward to someone bringing this up at the upcoming EGM on Wednesday evening.

How long do we have  to accept this incompetent, inadequate, incapable Board of Directors who are not fit  for the purpose of raising funds, growing revenue, and building foundations for now and the future of Everton Football Club? In the richest era in English football history, we seem to be in our worst ever financial position. The new media rights deal that comes into effect this season will save their bacon once again, as did the sale of Arteta, Rooney, Lescott, Rodwell...

We have operated at the right end of the Premier League in spite of this Board of Directors — not because of them. If ever one man was the salvation of a football club, it has to be David Moyes. We may have had issues with some team selections but overall, could anyone have done more with resources available?

The fact that two of the three main shareholders are lifelong Everton supporters should not be reason enough to accept the cannibalism of assets, the lack of commercial value in deals struck, the lack of vision for the future, and the devaluing or Everton Football Club’s image. If  a foreign owner(s) had taken over Everton 14 years ago and sold off the training ground, leased the new training ground under crippling terms, sold off the rights to future season ticket sales, lumped a £45 million overdraft on to the club, and strangled any borrowing ability...  How would we feel?

In an era of billion-pound sports rights deals, we have a Board of Directors and executives with a Sunday League football mentality and ability. Premier League football, like it or hate it, is now a global monster and it requires the personnel with the commercial savvy to obtain the best possible deals. Does the last 14 years of operating Everton as a business give you the confidence that this current regime are the people to drive us forward??? Er....  you have probably worked out my opinion.

I do believe that Bill Kenwright has worked to his maximum ability for Everton, but so did Brett Angel and Glenn Keely. Sometimes your best is just not good enough for Everton Football Club, as many have found out over the last 130-odd years...

Please stand aside,  Bill — you are not fullfilling the remit of an Everton Chairman — and please do not tell us that there is no-one out there. Even if it is not a billionaire, I will take my chances elsewhere.

I fancy that you have hard evidence Richard otherwise you wouldn't stick your neck out over this one, who knows maybe the new owners will be presented at the EGM - fat chance - but if the deal doesn't go ahead and your information seems to indicate that it should but probably won't then questions have to be asked by all supporters not just those who are fortunate to be shareholders.

Oh, I can suddenly see Bill and his band of merry men cancelling this EGM in a hurry. If what you say is true I can't wait to hear the answer given by the club... I dare say Bill would have been removed as Chairman — hence the offer not even given a second thought.

Seeing that you are in a position to know the details of the proposed bid then you must also know why the board are reluctant to accept the offer.

If this is true, then I wouldn't be surprised if it is because the 'friends of Everton' are making a killing by providing us with payday loans. Why would they sell?

This makes perfect sense while waiting for the next retail enabled ground move.

But Bill's a blue, so it's all ok.

Sorry but this is a complete non-story – we have had this several times over.

I can only second what Brian Harrison has said – if you know this much, then you know why it has not gone through – so tell us...

You do not know and therefore it is just more hearsay.

Michael/Lyndon, I am all for free speech but surely the site should perhaps impose a no source/authentication = no publishing of article/letter?

Shane Corcoran

I agree with James.

Although this could be 100% true, it's no better (as it is) than what the rags are saying about who we might buy this summer. Which makes it great craic. Keep it coming.

James McPherson

Shane, perhaps then as a compromise we can have a special section within the site for "complete tosh for tthe craic"! - just shunt "articles" such as this into one area where those that want it - can have it!

Richard your piece is well written and is seductive, but as Brian at 951 says, you give the impression that in asking the question you know the answer already.

Here is a suggestion, which I have made before.

Privately email Michael and Lyndon, who I am pretty sure will respect the confidentiality. Give them the details or describe (without naming if need be) your source or authentication. I trust them to make an assessment as to whether your credibility is there or not. They can then relay this to the rest of us without compromising the details.

Otherwise without hard evidence there is very little reason to believe you as things stand.

Dan Brierley
16 Posted 24/06/2013 at 18:22:18
If what you say is true Mr Tolman, then you have in your possession the holy grail that will unite all Everton fans and get rid of the board before the season starts. Yet you want someone else to ask the questions at the EGM, and if questioned about their source and authenticity they would have to answer 'er.....I read about it on ToffeeWeb'? Why not provide your evidence to people that will actually attend the EGM so pertinent questions can be asked, that cannot be hidden from? I think we probably know the answer to that question already...

To be honest to you though, that was a really good sell for the first 6 paragraphs. And then we get to paragraph 7, and a familiar theme seems to appear. It just stinks of somebody deliberately trying to increase the discontent by suggesting there is a buyer ready who will not only buy the club, but also wipe out the debts and fund squad improvements. How convenient for this to surface the week the EGM will take place eh? Its almost as obvious as the suggestions of takeovers when season tickets are going to be renewed....

If this is true and we get taken over with tens of millions to spend, I will have never been happier in my life to be wrong, and will gladly take how wrong I was being rammed down my throat day in day out....

Richard - "I am not a Salford bedsit-dweller, an employee of Everton Football Club, a keyboard warrior, a bullshiter, or worse still a kopite – as some people on here seem to have me down as"

Did someone actually say that? That is awful! I don't know about anyone else, but I have never and WOULD never accuse ANY Evertonian, even if I disagreed with them on EVERY Everton-related issue, of living in a bedsit in Salford.

If you can gloss over Richard's completely unsubstantiated claims (which, of course, may be unsubstantiated for a reason but that, naturally, makes them less credible), the title and main thrust of the piece is the real issue to focus on.

There has been plenty of rumour over the last decade suggesting that due diligence was done by at least one interested party from the Middle East four years ago but, again, there's nothing substantive to back it up.

So, we return to the question: Why have we not been sold?

Is Bill merely holding onto the train set? Is he beholden to other, less transparent individuals seeking too high a price as a return on their investment or loan? Has there just not been enough interest from the right kind of buyers - i.e. too many Venkys-types and not enough Fenway Sports Groups (the latter, it should be said, were incredibly reckless with their cash at the outset, what with the ridiculous sums forked out for the likes of Carroll, Henderson and Downing)?

We're no closer to knowing after 13 years of the Kenwright reign.

The way I see it, this would be the worst time for the board to sell, with the increased T.V money and money from player sales the board are looking to make more money now than before. Surely if there was a buyer the club would have told them to "do one" for a year while they essentially collect there winnings and then get their big pay day next year by selling the club. That would make more sense from a business perspective than selling now.

Patrick Murphy
21 Posted 24/06/2013 at 20:30:16
I see where you're coming from Phil but I disagree, this could be the perfect time to sell as the chickens have not come home to roost yet - the carrot of the TV money could be dangled and someone may bite , although if they were gullible enough to fall for that would they be any better than the present owners?

James Flynn

Well, I agree with all the disbelieving comments here and Dan wrote closest what I was thinking.

Sorry Richard, but you posted 6 months ago just before that joke of a window opened and here you are again a week before the next. Not to mention the AGM.

If what you say is true, the Blue Union, KEIOC folks, even Michael and Lyndon would have gotten at least a whiff of something in the wind regarding the Club near to sale. And the indisputably-connected local press haven't said ANYTHING?

How about this? You been going to the games for 40 years. A season ticket-holder? Where do you sit at the games? Must have a favorite spot. There are plenty enough match-goers in here who either know or can ask friends if you even exist.

Peter 057 "For what its worth where is the harm in somebody attending the EGM asking Richard's question?"

Simply put, Kenwright could give a completely unrealistic answer and the questioner has no back up in facts so would be stymied. More to the point, this is probably the sort of response Kenwright is looking for in not granting an AGM.

As much as I would love the question to be asked, if it were me asking the question I would certainly want some facts to back up any follow up question rather than an unsubstantiated article on ToffeeWeb.

What Richard is asking is for someone to put their head in the noose while he sits back knowing there will be no comeback on him.

I am not suggesting that the article is a fallacy. Far from it. Kenwright has sufficient history to back up Richard's allegations but I think without the necessary facts, Richard doth ask too much.

Jim Lloyd
26 Posted 24/06/2013 at 21:49:34
Well, the lad has took some stick for posting what he did. However, whether he's dreaming it all up or giving us the nod, I don't suppose we'll know until/if he gives his evidence to Michael and Lyndon, or any shareholder who would be prepared to put the question.

Why Richard isn't coming forward with whatever proof he's got, might be because, he's got none or it might be because he'll drop someone in it... maybe himself.

But, whatever the truth is, the question could be asked. "Is there a bid on the table for EFC and if so, why hasn't it been accepted?" I don't know how many times in the last few months Kenwright has come out and said there is someone interested in buying our club. Then it all goes quiet again.

Perhaps, as someone has suggested, Richard could come forward to Michael and Lyndon and submit whatever facts he has, in strictest confidence and let them make of it what they will. If there is any substantive evidence, then it would hopefully show up this bunch of chancers who are strangling any chance of our club challenging up at the top end.

Kevin (074) I'd like to think something/anything would shift our myopic mob into doing something. I don't think they ever will though. The embarrassment of losing the best opportunity any club has ever had for a world class stadium, ought to have made our Chairman hang his head in shame and have the grace to give up the reigns.

He then compounds his cock up over the King's Dock, with lies over the Kirkby debacle. I do not trust this man whatsoever, to do his best for Everton. He'll only do it (should the opportunity ever arrive) after he has trousered megabucks for himself,

Pete #100,

We would only receive the stock answer, "We are in the process of talking to interested parties, as we always are, in fact, someone came forward only recently."

From the floor: "Who are these interested parties?"

Elstone: "Well, we can't say as we don't want to jeopardise any future sale, and we have both signed NDAs."

Floor: "You're a bunch of lying twats."

Elstone: "See, that's why we stopped these meetings in the first place."

I get the feeling that even if a billionaire made an offer for the club Kenwright would knock it back. Most of us have given up on ever getting a new owner or any investment, sadly the board have beaten us into submission.

It never went through because they couldn’t prove they had cleared funds to invest in EFC after the initial sale, the deal if it’s the same one I was told about had legs but the concern was over the debt payment and future investment. I’m told (last Friday) that we still have an interested party in communication with us but I have no idea who they are, the person I know is very high in football finance and totally credible but as always he doesn’t name them and if I’m honest I respect the fact he doesn’t. He has just complete the purchase of a Division 1 team for his client.

Kevin, I was with this guy at Ascot on Friday it’s totally genuine. If he wasn’t a friend I would name him or club he has handled recently, he isn’t involved with EFC but he has met them on several occasions over the past 18 months and has met other people in his line of business that have informed him on several clubs not just EFC, he always tells me about us because he knows I support EFC. He is not directly involved in any current bid with EFC he has just been informed by a third party and I’m assuming the bid I was told about is the same as this post, nothing more.

Sounds like an extremely plausible story Alan, until the part that states this Board give a flying fuck what happens after they ride off with millions in profits.

They didn't seem to care when they ran up the debt, and financed us in the BVI, but we are expected to believe they won't sell because they are hugely concerned about the financial planning after they leave the club????

If it is true, I would guess the £120 million included the debt, therefore £70-80M going to the shareholders, which would give Bill approx £18M, based on the lower figure, on the basis he paid 6 million for his shares; over 13 years, that's a pretty decent return.

At best (and I mean best), investing in property would have yielded him about £5M; keeping it in the bank less than that... So roughly an extra £500k per year of ownership on the basis that (as we are informed) he receives no remuneration. To me, a fair deal.

What a steaming pile of crapola.

If media coverage is the goal, Tolman should deliver his evidence not to Michael and Lyndon but to any reputable sports journo in England, His identity would be protected and it would ignite a firestorm of competing coverage from every sports page in the country.

Why hasn't that happened?

Because there is no evidence.

For all I know, there is no Tolman.

Unfortunately, I don't personally believe we will be sold anytime soon. Newcastle are up for sale for twice as much according to the papers but they will be bought before Everton.

I believe Kenwright will be at the club until the day he passes away. Not that I wish him harm. I base my opinion on what I have heard and seen and the rhetoric that comes from him and the club.

Mr. Tolman, seeing as there was no apparent mention of interested parties at the EGM, perhaps now is the time to flesh out your knowledge. You must have a reason for posting at Christmas and more recently, seeing as there doesn't seem to be any buyers on the horizon perhaps you can ask permission from your informant to give you some hard evidence to back up your claims.

If, as some people claim, you are just mischief making – to what ends? I, like many on TW, look forward to hearing your reasoning.
