Say it isn't so!

I heard on the television, here in North America, that as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City should be in next season’s European Champions League due to their standings in the Premier League, European football will be played at either Blackburn, Millwall or Wigan next season.

Two of these last three teams will meet each other in the FA Cup semi final with one going on to the final.

If this is true, Everton’s defeat by Wigan last week was more that just a loss. I haven’t heard or read this synopsis from any media in the UK.

Please say it isn’t so!

Yeah,unfortunately this might come to pass if Man City, Man Utd, and Chelsea gain Champions League positions – which seems probable. A Europa League berth is given to The FA Cup Wainners, and can be awarded to losing finalists if the Winners have higher priorities!

Liverpool will have to finish 5th to qualify for Europe next season, still a tough ask.

No many times in the past where neither team in the city has European football

When you look at the table we're vying the RS and Arsenal for the Europa place, Liverpool having played an extra game but theirs and Arsenal's goal difference batter ours (real handy having that league table to the right as I type).

Plus we've got to both of their grounds as well, so in essence Paul (713) summed it up nicely.

On a side note to the OP, nice to see someone in Mississauga supports Everton, have family out there and everyone one of them is a red.

Eric - your analysis is correct. One of Wigan or Millall will be in Europe next season as one of them will be in the FA Cup final come May.

All we had to do was beat Wigan at home in the quarter final to qualify for Europe next season. Also would have meant Liverpool not making Europe at all next season if they don't manage to get 5th from Arsenal!

Whatever people think about the Europa cup, its still a cup and involves the chance for blues to follow Everton overseas and obviously would have helped to increase the profile of the club. And for those who say we don't have the squad - yes we do, if we actually bothered to use the players more. The early rounds of the Europa league are not going to be against Europes finest and it would have given the youngsters great experience.

Complete fuck up from EFC - will likely never have an easier run to a FA Cup final again - we only drew one other top league side ffs!

Also please no more crap about the FA cup only normally being won by one of the top sides - that line of though only counts if we're kncked out regulary by one of the top side and not; Blackburn, Fulham, Oldham, Reading, Birmingham, Shrewsbury and now Wigan!

Denis we would have had the small matter of beating Millwall to get to the final if we had have safely negotiated Wigan. But you are correct in your analysis of top 4 syndrome.
I hope Wigan go on to win the Cup as the other clubs wouldn't appreciate it and Millwall in Europe - no thanks.

Isn't that Denis' point Tony none of those clubs are to be feared and none of them have even got the Semis apart from Wigan this year.

We cant even win the League Cup or the FA Cup so we are never going to win the Europa Cup under Moyes.

After 11 years in charge under him, all we have to show for it is no trophies and a 36-year-old midfield player who is our captain but can't pass a ball forward.
