The Price of Replica Kits...

 Comments (36) jump to end

Earlier this year, I was going to do something I hardly ever do and buy myself a replica shirt. I always get one for my daughter but not often for myself. However, when I logged onto the website and saw that the shirts were £50 I decided to give it a miss and felt that the price was taking the piss.

A few weeks ago, my Mrs bought me the white shirt on my birthday. Thankfully the price had gone down to £30. Quite a drop in price. About a week later, the home shirt went down to £20... now, this week, if you buy any shirt you get a home one free. This essentially has priced the shirts at £15 each. A massive drop from the initial 50 sheets!

Seeing how much they have dropped makes me think we must be getting a new kit next season. If so, this is fucking ridiculous, not to mention a fucking kick in the bollocks if you paid £50 for a shirt a few weeks back.

The website also does not have any small kids' kits left at all. Now, if we planned on keeping the kit for next season, surely Everton would re-stock the kids kits for the Summer.

I was under the impression that teams kept kits for two years but to be honest I'm not sure where I heard this and it could just be bollocks.

Can anyone shed any light?

Franny,

Even worse, mate, to add to the nonsense of trying to buy a kit, we don't make ANY money — no matter how many we sell.

Not a nicker... fuck all.

Don't know where you have been for the last 15 years Franny, but Everton have had a new kit EVERY season bar one ( 2001/02 ) since 1999.

This is in fact MORE THAN ANY OTHER CLUB! 41Kits in that time!!!

Therefore, I would say it's highly likely we will be getting a new Home kit plus 2 new away kits next season.

For once though, I'm pleased as the Home Kit this season is gash with those odd sleeves, big blue bits on the shorts and blue socks. BRING BACK THE WHITE SOCKS!

41 kits Karl, that's probably more kits than players signed — alright, I know it isn't really — during that period. We run faster in white socks or so it seems, a big yes to bringing them back. Royal Blue shirts, white shorts and white socks — they're our proper colours; mind you, how long before we follow Cardiff's example? They wouldn't would they?

Every club does this and every year the old kit goes on special for very reasonable prices. The only "gotcha" that I have found is that often there are limited sizes available at the end of the year, so they may not have your size.

Where have you been? We and every other club issues new kits every season. If you want shorts in your sizes or kits for your kids you have to buy them early at the premium. If you had planned for your kids to have kits for this summer why didn't you plan to buy them at launch last August? Economics.

Where I live it's way more expensive to have the shirts shipped than the actual cost of the shirts but luckily replica replicas are readily available.

Jesus I never realised we had had that many. Suppose they all all merge into one in your head over time.

Cheers for the economics lesson Jason.

Get them at the end of the season when they go for £20. I saw the current ones go for that price around November or sometime around that. Was going to get one but as I hardly wear them, I thought I'd give it a miss.

With our piss poor commercial status, flogging new kits every season is pivotal for income, oh Hello Kitbag...

I attempted to buy the white kit just before Xmas, but to have it posted to Dublin came in at a laughable €140.00. Utter nonsense, but then I have yet to see it in ONE Dublin store, so I guess it's a collectors item because it's as scarce as a Dodo.

I have no problem with the club trying to make some money from kits and new kits every year, but there needs to be some realism in the prices, when you can't get to the Everton Stores.

I have Tony and nope; all of the usual suspects are there, but it's very rare to see any Everton merchandise.

One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention is that our kit is supposed to be royal blue.... to my mind, this season's kit is not the right colour, it's a shade too light and I don't really like it (in addition to the odd sleeves). Even my young lady, who is Colombian and knows little about our kit, commented on it and said the colour wasn't the same as previous incarnations.

Has anybody else noticed that the colour is off??? Or is it just that mine faded in the post on its way to South America?

Try typing "soccer triads football kits" in google you won't be disappointed.

Brian, #726.

I had not noticed the colour was out, the last kit that was not Royal Blue was the One to One kit, if my memory is right. Just shows you that the people at the top have no respect for our heritage. Nike probably told them they couldn't be bothered doing Royal Blue and the board rolled over and said okay. Fucking Kitbag deal!

Patrick, I'm sure they are manufactured in the same factories in China that Nike use and whilst the Club doesn't benefit from shirt sales it's good to save a bit of money. Quality is excellent......apparently

Brian...

It's actually a shade too dark when compared to the kit Dixie, Nobby Fielding, Alan Ball and Alex Young wore which was similar to the "search" rectangle up top. The last time we wore this true Everton blue we looked a million dollars.

Can't quite remember the sponsor. Was it ONE something or other? Maybe it was something completely different. It was displayed as a band around the chest. Anyone help?

Eric Myles, where in Bangkok or Pattaya can I get a replica replica?

Did the whole of MBK and didn't find one or anyone who had a clue where to find one!

Liam, as the OP said, it's now buy one get one free. I bought the home and 3rd jersey, delivered to Dublin, for €45. Not a bad price.

Granted it still pisses me off that you cant buy them over here, I mean, I wouldn't mind trying the bloody things on first. Not too much to ask, I don't think.

On annother tangent but still with retail.

I was given £100 worth of Liverpool 1 vouchers / swipe cards for Christmas of a couple of familly members. So I thought I'd splash the cash in Everton 2 store.

Anyway cut a story short, I selected my items and went to the till, only to be informed that Everton 2 do not accept the vouchers as the required system software update had not taken place.

The only other store in Liverpool 1 that did not have the required system software update was sports direct.

David #887, in Pattaya in Mike's shopping Mall outide stall on Beach Rd. end right hand side as you face the building. Also inside 1st floor stall immediately next to the escalator going up.

Neither place has a L size black shirt though (Evertonians only come in S,M and XL sizes in Pattaya apparently)

Cheers, Eric. I'm gonna be in Pattaya next weekend, do you know a decent place to catch the game? Preferably with cheap Tiger... :)

If I run into you, I'll buy you one of those take-away cocktail buckets that the cocktail buses sell... :)

I used to watch the matches in the Chang Sports Bar, part of the Diana Dragon Hotel top end of Soi Diana Inn near Soi Buakhao. They would give away Everton freebies during the games.

They have 3 tellies of varying quality and can usually be persuaded to put our game on the big screen but with the manager being a RS supporter and their game being the same time as ours we might be relegated to one of the smaller screens.

Do you mean Songkran weekend of 13th? I'll be away in Ho chi Minh City then. Are you based in Bangkok or over on holiday?

Dave here's a tip for you about Pattaya: unless you are of a like mind, stay away from Jomtien beach after dark — there are more aggressive ugly European Gays there than there are in Boys Town.

David Cornmell # 887 in Bangkok Try the Market Complex on the opposite side of the road from Pratunam not far from the Pantip the Computer place alongside the Indonesian Embassy. I bought a few Everton strips there over the years.

How to be sure of seeing EVERY Everton game in Bangkok - rent an apartment subscribe to True Vision Sports package - Watch EVERY Prem League fixture - LIVE. Alternatively go to Gullivers on Soi 7 where you will see at least FOUR live games at the same time.

Thanks for the tip-off. I fancied the short sleeved white shirt when it was reduced to 25 pounds. Didnt do anything about it at the time. Checked yesterday and found it was up to 30 pounds. Thought I would wait until end of season - then saw your very helpful post today.

Was going to send the free home shirt to my daughters partner who turns 40 on saturday. However decided that turning 40 was bad enough and he does happen to be a Man Utd supporter - plus they don't do 4-4 on the back!

Hey David, forget that place I recommended. The mate I usually meet there for matches went Monday night for the first time in a long while and tells me it's full of katoeys now.

His regular is now Coffee Beer on South Rd. just up from Friendship.

Cheers lads. Aussie based but make the annual pilgrimage to land of million smiles. Watched opening day last season in Pattaya and the Shite's League Cup win in Soi Cowboy.

I'll be in Pattaya next Saturday, Bangkok the one after. Singapore the one after that! So appreciate the info and any more that comes my way.

Pattaya seems crazier than ever, is there some gang shit going on?

It's all bullshit anyway. I haven't bought a shirt since the NEC days.

Waste of money. Buy a scarf outside the ground for a fiver and be done with it.
