The recent love affair with Slaven Bilic

 Comments (19) jump to end

It seems that a lot of fans want Slaven Bilic to be the man who takes us forward because he is a good manager and has links to the club.

The first one is true, he is a very good manager, but the second one couldn't be further from the truth.

People forget that he hardly played while he was at Everton and was "injured" most of the time he was here. He was also a mercenary in the worst sense of the word.

The reason I am so strongly against his appointment is because of a letter I once saw. I was working in the correspondence department of an electric company part time while I was in college, when a girl I worked with came over to me with a letter from Everton and said "You support Everton, look at this".

So I read it and was fairly shocked because it was in regards to an unpaid electric bill for Slaven Bilic. It said that "we at the club do not know the whereabouts of Mr Bilic as he left his accommodation without notice and without a forwarding address, however we believe he may be in Anderlecht."

Then it went on to explain that they were not responsible for the bill etc but that part is not important. What struck me most was how does a player leave a club so suddenly without letting them know where he is going and how can a man on that much money not pay an electric bill??

A scumbag who should never be offered the Everton job

ps: The club were not right about him being in Anderlecht as, after he played for us, he went back to Croatia, so it's not a new thing that they don't know anything about anything.

I don't want Bilic. I want Marcelo Bielsa to come here. Bilbao still haven't spoken to him re a new contract. He'd be free. Montainier is free in the summer, as is Rijkaard. Di Matteo is also free too.
Bilic would cost millions in compo.

I do hope you have your facts are correct Dave, I've no reason to doubt you but look what happened to Sally Bercow yesterday and she only tweeted something. The modern saying has changed from you are what you eat to you are what you tweet.

I heard he wasn't satisfied with his paycheck. The board only gave him a slave salary, and he got very upset and said it was unfair to him, because in his own words "I run like a slave, my name is Slave, but I don't deserve a slave's salary".

Bill replied "You know, Slaven, slaves don't get paid at all. You should be very glad for the dime in my pocket."

So, Slaven could not pay his bill 'cause Bill was a cheap basterd. As usual.

.Doing a BOLT from a electric bill.....WATT next! And I thought he was a bright young SPARK, I expect he had AMPle wages too. Poor lad just wanted to go OHM I expect. Where is he CURRENTlly anyway?

Seriously, I have heard some strange reasons for not appointing a manager, but this takes the cake!

Interesting article. Bilic is clearly an articulate and intelligent man. He had a decent win percentage of 65% at Croatia, slightly under Capello at England and 10% above Sven Goran Erickson at England. Igor Stimac who replaced him has won 7 and drew 1 of his 8 games in charge of Croatia.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croatia_national_football_team)

This leads me to the conclusion that I have come to before. That he is overrated. I don't see the appeal. He did well with Croatia (with some of the best players of their generation) and since has gone onto do little with Locomotiv Moscow. Frankly the only reason he is there is for the money in my opinion. Sue me for libel Slaven if you want.

ps: If anyone has an argument as to why he should be a candidate I am intrigued to hear why?

He hardly ever played for us because he was perpetually injured and was well paid considering his contribution. The "star" who never lit up Goodison Park. He's also the guy – I believe – who hammered that French player..... was it Le Blanc(?) and caused him to miss the World Cup Final. We don't need the likes of him; I'd sooner have Martinez but I'd prefer Pereira or Di Matteo.

I remember fans at the game calling him "God" after his first few games for us. Yeah, his career with us wasn't great, although he did find time to play in the World Cup semi final and get Laurent Blanc sent off, despite not having played for us for months.

Mark #831, I believe he's a qualified lawyer, so if he does sue you, he'll be able to represent himself.

Cracking post, best in a while. Imagine if every person who had skipped or accidentally on purpose forgot to pay a utility bill was banned from getting another job, the whole of the country would grind to a halt. I wonder if he had problems with his gas and water... He would definitely needed a doctor if so.

Who cares what he did as a player. Bottom line is he is a good manager who is more than can be said for Stubbs, Weir, Neville et al

Is it though James? I think me and you may have had this debate before, and I am still to be convinced by anyone that he is a 'good' manager or frankly done anything of good note, in the club game especially. I don't really care what he did as a player, no. In the same vein I would have Benitez regardless of his background and statements. Difference is that I KNOW he is a good manager

I think that must have been another James Mark. I don't recall. Bilic's Croatia were a class act on the biggest stage. That's good enough for me. I'm not saying he's the man for the job but at least its not an embarrassment to be linked with him. It is when Stubbs/Weir etc are mentioned.

Disagree entirely on Benitez. He bought some real dross for the RS and left them in a pretty bad way. Made a pigs ear of a CL winning team at Inter and was sacked sharpish. His record at Chelsea was hardly great considering the team they had. Would never want him here.

I only remember Bilic as a massive drain on EFC. Did he even manage half a season? Always injured, or suspended, then we were paying him £25k a week to play for Hajuk Split or some such for the last year or so of his contract.

Totally took us to the cleaners, Twat... but does on occasion look like Steve from Corrie!

I did a runner from an Eon bill quite recently. Does that rule me out of the running for the job?

Wouldn't the end of communism, ensuing civil wars, ethnic cleansing, torture, war crimes, rapes and bombing campaigns in his homeland suggest more going on in his life than dodging a leccy bill?

Whhhhhat a scumbag.

James Stewart - we don't know how well Weir,Stubbs or Neville would do - they are untried in management. Well - and it certainly hurts writing this- so was Dalglish back in 1985-86.

Bilic is a good international manager - but a great deal is being made of his association with Everton - how long was that for ??Tony Thomas played for us around the same time and let's not forget Gareth Farelly.Should they be considered ?

Sorry but if we are going to appoint someone with an Everton backgound - then let's appoint somebody with true affiliations - Phil Neville has more and he came from Man United!!! Bilic played a handful of games for us in comparison with Weir, Stubbs and Neville - and how often does he mention Everton ? He has more affiliations with West Ham I would have thought.
