Hibbert: 'Bigger than Pele'

The coming to fruition of the "Hibbert Scores, We Riot" phenomenon was clearly too momentous to stay within the borders of England.

Fascination with the affection with which Tony Hibbert is held by Evertonians and their pitch invasion following his first senior goal for the Blues on Wednesday night was evident as far away as Brazil, where Globo Esport devoted over three minutes to his story.

The piece provides some background on his longevity at Goodison and includes a montage of official and supporter-shot video of his goal against AEK Athens.

It finishes with a comparison to Pele who had to wait for 1,000 goals for a fan pitch invasion celebrating him. The presenter signs off joking, "Tony Hibbert: bigger than Pele!"

Hibbo should shoot more like what he shot in the 1st half of the match next season.

HUGELY entertaining.... and no need to speak Portuguese -- that was universal.

Give Globo credit, they know a great story when they see it, and the production was great, right down to the music at the end.

Many thanks for posting that link!!!!!!!!

Weird they chose George's answering-machine message from Seinfeld for the background music. :)

"Believe it or not George isn't at home please leave a message at the beep, I must be out or i'd pick up the phone, where could I beeee, believe it or not i'm not home."

Fantastic! Thank you Globo.tv - They pick up a story, tell the tale, mash OS and youtube stuff, throw in a Mike Post tune soundtrack, Pele's 1000th goal .... brill.

And I know we're biased, but did you really have to know anything about Hibbo, EFC or football in general to appreciate that bit of TV? It was just good, that's all. Something Tony has to keep to show his grandchildren.

Brilliant piece!! Just a pity one of the networks over here didn't find it in them to do something similar. Maybe in a non Olympic year it might have been picked up.
