Mirallas pleased to get first run-out

Happy to make his first appearance for Everton at Villa Park yesterday, Kevin Mirallas says that the team's form in their first two games has just reinforced his decision to join the Blues.

The Belgian came off the bench as a second-half substitute with his new team 3-0 up and he says the cushion provided by that majestic first-half display made it all the easier for him to enter the fray.

"It was a fantastic moment to come on," he told evertontv. "With us 3-0 up, it meant that I could go on a bit calmer than normal."

And the £6m capture from Olympiacos almost capped his debut with a goal but his header was chalked off by a hairline offside decision in the closing stages.

"I don't know if it was offside or not, I couldn't tell," the 24-year-old said. "It certainly would have been a fantastic debut if it had counted, but I'll be going all out to score in the next game now."

"The main thing is getting into the right places, getting into the pace of the game and getting minutes on the field."

Two games in and the forward doesn't have any regrets about joining Everton: "We're clearly playing very good football at the moment and that reinforces the decision I made to come here.

"I knew I was coming to a great club, but the fact that we're playing so well - I think we merited the victory today by some distance. Let's hope we can continue."

Mirallas' first taste of life at Goodison was Monday's roof-lifting performance against Manchester United and he was impressed with the traveling fans who came down the M6 as well.

"I was already impressed with the support at home to Manchester United," he said. "And although we didn't outnumber the home fans obviously, we certainly outsang them."

The one thing I noticed about Mirallas was his willingness to run along the line and his movement off the shoulders of the centre halves and full backs. He looks to have a brain.

The lad seems to be fallin in love with our club already!
Good times ahead for this lad I think.

As Nick said, he sits on the shoulders of defenders, which they hate. He has confidence he can outsprint any defender and from his record he scores goals. I liked the disallowed goal but he was about a foot offside.

I thought his cameo gave us some good indications of what he offers, as Nick suggests above. He was harshly (I thought) criticised by some for being offside for the goal that was ruled out, but it was marginal and on another day I'm sure he'll get his timing spot on (only to still be ruled out thanks to a blind linesman!)

The guy is 24, at a crucial stage of his career and he's been pretty up front about why he signed for us. Whether he gets his starts soon remains to be seen, but he should get more chances than he would've done at Arsenal. By the time he's 27, we'll know whether he's in it for the long run, or looking for a move / needing to be sold. The Niang situation was different, as he's 17, and a 4 year contract would only take him up to 21 - the age we sold Rodwell at.

Kevin the only reason villa supporters out numbered us is because we could not get anymore tickets.
