This was Everton's third home game on the bounce with having already beaten Norwich, then lost to Arsenal last weekend and today could only manage a draw. It was the visitors who made the breakthrough on 20 minutes as the ball was adjudged to have hit Australian Jake Adelson's arm with Mr Rogers immediately pointing to the spot with midfielder Kieran Sadlier sending Springthorpe the wrong way.

It was Sadlier the first year scholar that almost doubled the Hammers lead but his shot went wide.

Everton never caused the Londoners many problems during the first period apart from an effort from Waring that was blocked and cleared away.

Everton looked the better side in the second half with chances for Duffus with a header and a screaming shot from distance by Joe Williams.

Everton's pressure paid off when a penalty was awarded as Ryan Ledson was brought down in the box. The youngster dusted himself down to convert past goalkeeper Sam Baxter

Everton: Springthorpe, McLaughlin, Johns, Adelson, Langton (C), Williams, Ledson, Joe Kenny, Waring, Duffus, Charsley. Subs: Taudul, Dyson, Graham, Duffus, Thornley
