Jose Semedo raves about Ross Barkley

Sheffield Wednesday's Portuguese star Jose Semedo is tipping Ross Barkley to become one of the best midfield players in the country after seeing at close hand what an impact the 18-year-old from Everton is making in the Owls midfield.

Barkley has lived up his billing as an outstanding prospect, since Everton allowed him to join Wednesday on loan to gain League experience. Impressive displays have also brought him four goals, including three in the last two games.

“He's a top player,” says Semedo. “He's going to be one of the best midfield players in England within a few years.

“You can see he wants the ball all the time; he wants to play; he wants to be involved in attacking play, and he can run back and defend.”

“It makes my job easier: when he gets the ball he wants to go forward if we are attacking, I am resting, waiting to defend afterwards!”

Sounds like the loan spells are doing the lad a lot of good; we should see him in the first team next season taking over from Leon Osman a bit more.

Haven't seen any of his goals yet. Any videos floating about?

Maybe after a couple of years we can get Jose Baxter back on a free. He seems to be kicking up a storm in L1.

"he can run back and defend” - Moyes must be pleased.

The cynic within me feels Bill Kenwright will be rubbing his grubby hands at these kind of reports.

Ste. Congratulations in seeing the cloud in the middle of the silver lining. Not sure why you would include a put down of BK in this thread.

I've watched him a few times for Sheff Wed. He does some great things and then makes stupid mistakes by giving the ball away in dangerous areas which you cannot afford to do in the Prem. But yes, he is improving... but those silly errors would be costly in the Prem.

Mike #487.

That, of course, is why he's out on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

It's not so long ago ago since some on here were bemoaning the fact that "he wasn't being given a chance" by the coaching staff at Everton.

What we (they) need to remember is that he won't come back the finished article, simply, as you say, an improvement on the excellent young player who left Goodison.
