Anglo-Portuguese Ex-Blue makes debut

Eric Dier, who was with the Everton Academy on loan from Sporting Lisbon for 18 months, finally made his senior debut with his home club last weekend.

On Saturday he made his debut first-team appearance back in Portugal and set up the winner in their match against Braga.

The centre-back captained every junior Sporting side, apart from the Under 19s, since he was 11-year-old. In 2011, he was part of the Everton Under-18 side that won their National Group in the FA Premier Academy League and went on to win the national Payoff Final against Fulham.

We loaned him to see if he was any good. He looked okay but thought he had more chance of first team football at Sporting. That okay with you, Shane?

I saw him in the reserve derby a while back and he was head and shoulders above anything above Liverpool that day – Liverpool had Morgan, Sterling, M'Bou?

No Phil, I won't stand for it. Thanks for clearing that up though.

Hold on - let me get this straight.
This guy is 6'2", English, has come through the Sporting Lisbon youth system, has good technical skills, has played for England but Portugal want him to play for them at senior level, is 18 and has made his debut for Sporting and set up the winner.

Sounds like he ticks every box you could hope for.
Not sure if Everton had an option to sign him but if we did it beggars belief that we have let him go.

Ciaran it was 18 months ago before Moyes started going through the change.

Now we're playing footie he's probably refusing his porridge in high dudgeon about it.

Might be that we wanted him and Lisbon wanted some compensation perhaps? We are skint after all...

I think young Eric wanted 1st team football which we couldn't guarantee him just yet.

Fair enough from both sides really.

Let's relax eh? The club can't seem to do right for doing wrong in some people's eyes.
