Igesund closes the book on Pienaar

South Africa's coach Gordon Igesund has admitted that Steven Pienaar will not be reconsidering his decision to retire from international football.

The 30 year-old announced his retirement from Bafana Bafana earlier this season, preferring to concentrate 100% on his career with Everton, a decision that was bitterly disappointing to his country.

Igesund had been hoping to persuade Pienaar to change his mind and at least help South Africa in January's Africa Cup of Nations but is now preparing for the tournament without his former captain.

"Steven is totally retired from international football," Igesund is quoted by Sports Illustrated. "He has to get on with his life at his club and that's it."
