Seamus Coleman has signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with Everton. The new deal for the 24-year-old Ireland international runs through the summer of 2018.

"I'm over the moon. I'm glad to get it all done and to sign for so long at a club like Everton is a great achievement - I want to be here for as long as possible," he told the club's website.

"Signing a contract here is fantastic and I'm really looking forward to the next couple of years.

"I'm going to keep working as hard as I have done since day one and keep improving every day in training to impress the manager.

"I'm really happy to have signed for the length of time that I have."

Nice one Seamus. I know you get some stick at times, some of it justified. But you are improving and hopefully you'll iron out those errors that have cost us some goals this season.

It's good news - but am I the only one afraid that this is as exciting as January will get?

In a year from now Seamus will be our regular right back. In two years he will be a great right back. I once said, and was mocked for it , that he would be Moyes's best signing. Right now I think he is. I reckon he is worth forty times what we paid for him. Who else compares with that?

I hope this is not the only signing by the end of January, but I'm pleased he's committed to us, he's got a great attitude and hopefully he can continue to improve and gain more experience at RB and the mistakes will get less and less and eventually make the RB spot his own.

He reminds me of Baines when he joined us. Raw talent, not so good defensively, pretty good at going forward. And look at how Baines turned out.

Here's hoping he turns out half as good.

Andy Crooks

Beckford was sold for a 4,000,000 % profit.

But yes, point taken. He's a fantastic bargain and a good player.

Sorry, that's bollocks. Too much whiskey.

4,000,000 times the purchase price.

Happy New Year folks

Good; now let's see him develop into a top-class footballer. What would he be on now? £20k a week?

Good start to 2013.

My next wishes are to see him, Mirallas and Gibson back fit, Jelavic hitting form, 2 new players in (pref def midfield and forward) and Felliani and Baines staying.

Oh and a 5 game winning run would be good too! ;-)

COYB and let's hope this will prove a Happy New Year for all Toffeewebbers!

Great signing if and when he learns how to defend. My heart's in my mouth every time he goes near someone in our penalty area.

Nice to see the manager rewarding the young and up coming players with such fantastic acolades and a nice long contract to boot. Well done Seamus, a great prospect and an eager player well worth his place in our team.

Great news, definitely getting better all the time and his forward play relieves the pressure on the left. Two great fullbacks swinging in the crosses. We could still be on the march. Well done DM.

Good news to tie him down long term, although £35k a week (as I've been told) seems a bit steep given he still has a lot to learn re defending.
