Distin signs up for one more year

As expected, Sylvain Distin has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Everton that will run through June 2014.

The 35-year-old Frenchman continues to deliver solid performances at the back for the Blues and is finally seeing the clean sheets appear this season.

"I'm happy that I'm staying for another season," he told the official site. "Everton is a great club — I've said that from day one."

"I didn't have any reason to leave and the Club wanted me to stay, so I'm happy that we could figure it out."

Great news, he has a great partnership with Jags and is possibly one of the fastest players at the club.

Has no transfer value so it only makes sense to keep him on.

I would say that the fact that his performances make him one of the best centre-backs in the League means it only makes sense to keep him on!

The guy is 35 and plays like someone 10 years younger. It's pretty impressive, actually.

I like Distin, and this is welcome news - you have to wonder why we go about extending player's contracts at these times. Are we burying bad news and hoovering loudly over the deathening silence of transfer inactivity?

I believe you are right Mark.
However, Distin is amazingly fit and hardly ever gets booked.
He and Jags are the mainstay of the defence and I would not swap them for any other clubs pairing.

The only problem is his age and that go's for a few others who are not as fit as Distin.
Our youngsters are quite frankly very disappointing and none of them I have seen are making sufficient progression to push for places in the first team.
It does not augur well for the future :(

He has also played more games for the Blues than Lescott, apart from the Semi-Final cock-up the bloke has been top-drawer.

Good news this our best player so far this season and a match for anyone in the Premier league. His age doesn't really mean anything he is probably one of the fastest and fittest players in the squad and would have been worth a couple of years extension.

Agree with the sentiment of the previous posts - excellent news. He is a great pro and athlete and from what I've seen person and therefore should be a great asset by passing on his experiance to Duffy etc as well as he on field contribution

Strength, pace, experience – the man has it all in abundance. Definitely one of Moyes's best buys. Great partnership with Jags and his covering down the left side frees Baines to rampage forward safe in the knowledge Buzz has it covered. To me his age is irrelevant as long as he is fit. Only Distin knows how he feels, but looking at him I would say those legs have a few more seasons left in them!

There is something wrong with the acadamy when great players like Distin still tick all the boxes of character, dedication, desire, discipline, skill, strength, speed and fitness even at 36.

Absolute professional. I feel he can play with any other CB at the club, whereas Johnny and Jags have not shown that they aren't great together.

Sometimes you get players that play on, and I don't see 2014 being the end of Distin's career.

With all the money floating about in football I think it's refreshing to see a pro like Distin who obviously keeps himself in peak condition and seems to have one desire - to play football. All power to him and I'm glad he's staying for a bit longer.

I think the problem with Johnny and Jags is that they are both predominantly right-footed so making the back four very one-sided. With Distin in the team the balance is there, it's going to be harder to replace him than either Johnny or Jags as it's very difficult to find a left sided CB out there.

Congratulations on your extension Sylvan we need you, you're one of a very rare breed, a left-sided CB.
