David Moyes to go for £16M striker
The idea of David Moyes and Everton paying £16M for a striker seems ludicous but that is what TalkSport would have us believe... in the form of Benfica man Oscar Cardozo. Shome mishtake shurely?

if Jelavic believes Naismith as been the best striking partner then Moyes should sign him. He will cost next to nothing or even nothing so what's he got to loose?

Maybe Billy has been rooting around the back of his sofa and found a few sheckles. But, if he had, I doubt if Mr Moyes would get any of it.

Oh dear! Talksport must be bored, if (and we all know how big this 'if' is) Moyes had £16M burning a hole in his pockets, would he pump it all into one position? Bearing in mind that if this money is generated by sales then a LB and MF would be high on the list.

Cardozo is of roughly the same build and pace as Jelavic. Talksport aren't even trying with this one.

We were linked with him whilst we were playing in Europe a few years back when we played Benfica, if anyone remembers the paper talk along with Moutinho at the same time. Can't see it myself...

Where do they get this shite from. I mean if we had money to spend yes by all means come up with some 16 million transfer targets, but we are skint so what sort of an idiot comes up with this.
By the way good striker though hope its true.

What a load of tripe. If he had that sort off money to spend, I would think Pienaar would be first in followed by a right winger and maybe a right back. He would not spend it all on one player... where do TalkSport get these stories from?

Good striker with impeccable stats in front of the net, which makes it seem like the media are just dangling objects in front of our faces, showing us what we can't have.

Mike, I understand where you're coming from, but in the few instances when we've actually had money to spend, a right-back and right-winger have usually been pretty high on the priority list, but were never bought. What makes you think they would be now?

I believe it!! I mean everyone knows we have no shekels to rub together.... Unless they know something we don't .... So basically what I am saying is this so crazy it has to be real!!! Ordering my shirt now!

You're right, Roman, we have needed a right-sided player for a while. I was just hoping but I do think Pienaar would be first on the list. So £16 mill on a striker? I don't think so...

You what this means? We have a secret, soon-to-be-announced Arab/Russian/American deep-pocketed owner about the buy the team! Time for a spending spree, the next decade will feature league titles and yearly Champions League play!

16m? NO WAY!! And even if it is true, Moyes would absolutely buy Steven Pienaar in priority and then try for Landon Donovan. There is no doubt that Cardozo is a very powerful striker; we need wingers and defenders.

The OP title only makes sense if you put "spurs new manager...." in front.
But then you've got the Moyes and spurs link ..... some days eh!

Absolute rubbish! Firstly, with the signing of Naismith (injuries notwithstanding) being imminent, the need for another striker/front man has gone.
Secondly David Moyes (quire rightly so) wouldn't spend that much on a player of 29.
If we were going to break our transfer record, which I beleive £16m would, it'd be on a 20-24 year old, without a doubt!

Why do the sports media keep coming up with these stories, everyone including
the media themselves know we have no money.
The club tells everyone every year there is no money unless we sell, do they think we are soft enough to believe them ?...

Where has the £16 million (pounds not euros ffs!) valuation come from? Can't see even any of the super-rich clubs paying that for a 29 year-old who isn't exactly a household name, so why are TalkSport peddling such nonsense. Sorry, forgot for a minute that journalism no longer has to have any factual basis and is there solely to sell advertising space.
Please start to put 'winking smiley faces' next to the stuff that has obviously been produced by someone who is only allowed to use crayons, so I don't get excited thinking that Uncle Bill has won the Euromillions jackpot.
Think it would be a huge gamble to stop looking for additional striking talent even if we sign Naismith, unless one of the youngsters steps up a few levels next season (and is showing it in pre-season).

Have we managed to save some money by Rangers going pop?
In theory if the 'old' Rangers whom we owed ~£3m for the Jelavic deal have gone into liquidation and are no longer trading does that mean our debt dies? Or does it follow to the 'newco'?
Not that saving would stretch to £16m mind.......

Goes to crediors, Nathan. HMRC first, then secured creditors, and then unsecured.

Cheers Ian - although on my limited reading I thought the idea of liquidation was due to them not being able to settle with their creditors and so 'dying' as a going concern and all their standings with it?

I think you're right.
The administrators will turn everything they can into cash which is then split out. I understand that the creditors were unforgiving to write off the remainder, or turn into equity to allow the old company to continue.
Everton may have negotiated a reduced amount previously if some was on the drip, although this would have been a couple of weeks ago and would be out in the domain being Liverpool and football. I would think this is why we only paid £5.5M vs 'higher' bids elsewhere.

We didn't buy Jelavic on the never-never. It was the Bily money that paid for him and Gibson.

Cardozo is one of my favorite strikers in Europe over the last 4/5 years. One of the best finishers you will ever see. I have a funny feeling Spurs will make a bid. Whoever gets him will be buying 20+ goals.

I'm reliably informed that you don't need £16 million to buy a £16 million player ;-)

The usual rumours will persist and is just trash journalism.
Many journalists today much like the T.V.and Music industry have many untalented people. These untalented people get along by fabricating stories as they do not have the talent nor work ethic to get out there, find and report the truth.
Sadly, sport and mainly football suffers from this trash journalism whereby many of us are subjected to all kinds of happenings that do not and likely will not exist.
Tabloid journalism much like a lot of modern T.V. programs feed the masses with exaggeration.
All the Prem.clubs being the ones presumed to have the bulk of the wealth will of course be reported as being interested in this player and that player every day of the week.
This rumour about Cardozo is a typical example of garbage. The only club likely to be interested would be Chelsea or Spurs.
I say Spurs because of the AVB appointment and also the fact that Defoe may become a back number and Adebayor may be costing too much in wages.
I would safely say that Everton will not be spending any money like that for anyone unless we get a backer similar to Abramovich and certainly not for a 29 year old. Maybe for RVP who now seems to want out of the Emirates but it's more likely he would cost twice that amount and we all know the select group of clubs who can afford that.
