Everton to intensify efforts to secure Pienaar
The Daily Post report that Everton will redouble their efforts to sign Steven Pienaar on a permanent basis now that Andre Villas-Boas has been appointed manager at Tottenham... although the fact that the transfer window is now open and another month has elapsed since the end of last season probably has more to do with it.
The report suggests that the Blues will still need to sell before they can buy the South African for a fee of around £6m — hopefully Yobo or another fringe player and not Baines.
Various "in the know" sources differ on the terms of Everton's arrangement with Spurs, with some saying that a pre-agreed fee of £3m is all that it will take, while others say that any price that was discussed back in January is no longer valid and that re-negotiations will be required.
Elsewhere, rumour has it that Danijel Pranjic is still a viable option and he could be set for talks at the end of the week.
And David Moyes is rumoured to be looking at grabbing Vladimir Weiss from Rangers after picking up Steven Naismith on a free transfer.

I'd seen today from Fourth Official (usually reliable source) on Twitter that we were monitoring the situation with Weiss and according to SSN he as 4 offers on the table and one of those is from England!.
Also, someone who works for Sky News as a sports editor, Ian Dovaston, says he's heard that we're in talks with Junior Hoilett but his wage demands could be too much for us? — "iandovastonþ@skydovaston: I'm hearing Blackburn Rovers' Junior Hoilett talking to Everton, but player's demands may be too high for Goodison."
Pienaar's a great player and makes us tick but I'm just starting to wonder if signing Hoilett for around £4 or 5 million due to tribunal would be best as he's younger and got re-sale value?
I'd love to be greedy and think we could sign the lot: Weiss, Hoilett and Pienaar... as that would be some midfield three playing in behind Jelavic but it all sounds too good to be true!
If we had to settle for just Pienaar out of all that, I wouldn't complain but if we could get 2 from 3 out of that, then Pienaar and Hoilett would be brilliant but I cant see it.

Isn't Vladimir Weiss a citteh player, and was only on loan at Rangers?

Nice in-depth research by the Daily Post! Weiss is not a Rangers player and didn't even play there last season! He belongs to Man City and was loaned out to a Spanish side last season.
How do people get these journalist jobs? Easist job in the world, just make up stuff and then go to the pub!

£6 mil is too much for Pienaar, but who believes this anyway?

With Pienaar hedging his bets by saying he will see if the new manager wants him I get the idea that there is no deal.
Whether thats because Spurs asking price is way too high or his wage demanda are still high I wouldnt like to say but the statements between the end of the season and now are way cooler on any prospective deal.
I always thought it was lunacy not to give him parity with the top players anyway. If we would have tied him down to a 4 year contract then we would certainly not let him go to Spurs for a lucky bag and a packet of sherbert.

£3m for Pienaar would be good; £6m would be too much at his age, I believe.
I presume the Pranjic deal will hinge on whether or not we get Pienaar, as Pranjic plays mainly on the left of midfield, I think.

Weiss is apparently unwanted, so will be available for transfer. I doubt the veracity of the interest though; we need to concentrate on getting Pienaar (we won't pay £6M, and they wont ask for £6M). Maybe we could get for £3M, but I have a horrible feeling AVB will keep him...

Pienaar might prefer to be on higher wages and not playing at Spurs ... It'll help cover his legal fees and mean that he can be available for court. Good player (when he wears blue) ... But a bit of a shambles off the field. Pranjic on a free would be better than Pienaar for 6mill.

In the interests of clarity, only the Pienaar story is from the Daily Post. The Pranjic and Weiss rumours were ones I tacked on the end, hence he confusion over Weiss' parent club is me not being specific enough.

I would like Peinaar to stay, but he had his head turned (may be tapped up) by Spurs. And the fact he is now hedging his bets, confirms he is not as loyal as we would like to think. Personally, I think he likes Everton because he gets game time - but how many trophies are we going to win and how much can we pay?
Also he looks good on the left because he works well with Baines, et al. I suspect at Tottenham he was expected to deliver more without the same level of support on the pitch. Take him or leave done OK since then.
Our best ever player left the club 75 years ago in 1937 and we have done ok since then.

Anyone heard about us goin after this fell Jean-Jacques Gosso. I checked him out on wikipedia nad his career looked to be limited at best. Apparently City were interested in him for around £3 mill, earlier this year.
According to NSNO his club stated we are talking to him.

Moyes on the OS saying he assumes PIenaar still wants to come and he's turning his attention to concluding the deal.

Very unusual statement from Moyes. He does normally keep silent about other players.... Guess maybe he's learnt to be a little more forthright. About time to....

I agree with Chris Regan (227) - Pienaar does seem very fickle indeed. If he made it clear that he wanted to stay with Everton then it would force through a transfer at a lower price. As it is he is hedging his bets and also looking to curry favour with AVB

You would be mad to force a move when a new manager has just come in. What if he likes Pienaar and gives him loads of game time? He has to make sure he is sweet with both managers, telling Moyes that he feels at home in Goodison but at the same time trying to sound like he wants to fight for his starting place under AVB.

Perhaps the club have decided to push Pienaar and Spurs into a relaively quick decision.
I stated on another thread that I was disappointed that Pienaar hadn't been more bullish about his future, given his performances for us since January and the fact that the club made it clear that they would try to resign him in the summer.
Maybe he has a few other things on his mind, but I still think he should be making tracks to AVB's office and asking for some straight answers.

Just a thought lads – don't Spurs need a centre half? What about Yobo to Spurs as part-exchange for Pienaar, thereby excluding the negotiations with the under-handed Turks.

Very unusual for Moyes being so vocal in his persuit of a player. Is he trying to force the boards hand with this transfer? He may be using this transfer as a bargaining tool for a new contract.
It has been said on other threads it would be very unlikely that Pienaar would say anthing negative about his current employers. Why would you risk saying anything that would result in you being isolated if he were to stay at Spurs? After all would anyone here bet on Everton being able to find the cash to pay the transfer fee?

I agree Carl - very un-Moyesish this. If you look at the new post he is sounding very positive about getting Pienaar back. And as you suggest, he doesn't say anything unless he's sure of his ground.

I think you hit the nail on the head there Carl, and it's something many people seem to have missed.
It's all very well him really wanting to comeback and the club desperately wanting to sign him but if we can't meet the asking price it won't matter how much he stomps his feet and shakes his pigtails he'll be staying where he is.

His hearing in SA for assault postponed till 6 Sept.
Do we risk spending £x million for him & then find him behind bars (prison type) Can't see the Club taking a chance.
