Blues in talks with Gosso

05/07/2012 | Comments (19)
The chairman of Orduspor says that Everton are in talks with Ivory Coast international forward midfielder, Jean-Jacques Gosso.

Nedim Türkmen is quoted by Turkish media agency, AA, as saying "We want to sell Gosso, a couple of clubs are currently in talks with us over a possible move.

"Everton are in negotiations with us over a possible transfer, its very likely that Gosso will be leaving us."

The 29 year-old, valued at around €3m, has been keen in the past to try his hand at the Premier League, telling Star Africa last year:

"The Premier League? It's one of my goals. One couldn't dream of better. It's the ultimate championship."

Gosso joined Orduspor last year on a free transfer from Monaco.

I think he's a defensive midfielder though, not a forward.

He's described as a def mid, and he's 29 — not a Moyes signing. Jeez if all these transfer rumours were true we'd have a squad of 300.

David, I love Toffeeweb's link in the rumour mill: no bids for Felli and Baines. Wow, we could fill up so many column inches like that: No bids rumoured for Howard: why not, isn't he rated? God, everyone could get cheesed off not at rumours of sales, but rumours that are players aren't wanted;

You could get very silly, and rumour that Everton are declining to bid for Van Persie. Is he crap? We lack ambition? Or, dreary David, RVP is too attack-minded... that's what it is.

I take the mick, but still check rumour pages most days of the week. Bloody hell, it's sunny outside!!! Sorry, I'm rambling.

If we're signing defensive midfielders I can think of a couple of freebies I'd look at before spending 3M Euros we haven't got on a 29 year old I've never heard of.

Roberto,

It shouldn't need explaining but, as you probably recall already, there have been rumours of interest in 'our' players Fellaini and Baines recently. Pretty high profile and persistent they were too... Hence this story.

Whereas Howard? Not so much.

No rumours; therefore no story of no offers.

Van Persie? Now who's being silly....

Another article written in March this year says Man City had a deal lined up to sign this Gosso guy to replace the outward going De Jong...

..........and Michael, you could add that Moyes said what he said about Fellaini & Baines today also.

Michael (339), maybe Roberto simply means that it needn't have been tagged as a rumour, since it is a bald statement of fact from the manager. I understand that you are aiming for consistency and trying to keep linked transfer stories all together. I can see Roberto's point but it also seems that he may have spent too much time out in that sunshine he mentioned.

Was quite hoping we had enough defensive midfielders (Gibson, Rodwell, Fellaini if necessary) and would strengthen the squad elsewhere. If there is any truth in this rumour (and at the moment I doubt it) then it implies that one of our current players isn't rated or isn't expected to be here at the start of the season.

If he's an international player he'll be off for the AFCON before he even gets of the bench anyway.

Eric, there is no AFCON this season, it every 2 years so the next one is January 2014

I think they changed it and there is an Afcon again this year.

Andrew – next Afcon is January 2013. They have re-jigged their usual pattern.

You're taking it wrong. I'm not having a pop at Toffeeweb, just at the whole culture of close season-gossip. And I was being deliberately silly in a very light-hearted way.
Sorry if the irony didn't come through.

Andrew - there is an African Cup of Nations in 2013.

They decided in 2010 to shifit to odd numbered years so that it no longer fell in the same year as the World Cup, there's a tournament in Jan 2012 and Jan 2013 (then 2015, 2017 etc).

The tournament next year is in South Africa - so SP would miss most of Jan if he were to come back to us. Also we would sudder the grave loss of Anichebe!

I don't see this one; we have a lot of players who can play or cover there, so yeah.
