Hoilett unlikely; Owen Twitter rumours

13/07/2012 | Comments (50)
Everton look likely to miss out on Junior Hoilett who is reportedly close to finalising his protracted move to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Meanwhile, the Twitterverse is all... well... a-twitter with the baseless rumour that Michael Owen is set to undergo a medical at Finch Farm over the next couple of days.

The 32-year-old is looking for his next challenge after leaving Manchester United and Tweeted himself yesterday that he will only play on if it was an opportunity that excited him.

It seems, though, that the source of this speculation was a made-up Tweet that was been given extra legs by its publication on the Echo's rumours page.

And to put an end to the Danijel Pranjic speculation, the Croatian wingback has signed for Sporting on a free transfer.

What about Michael Owen, anyone?

Owen still scores goals when he does actually play – he may still be good enough at 32 for a couple of seasons. He is "fit', free and will most likely have lower wage demands than before.

My biggest worry, looking at our squad, is what happens if Jelavic gets injured? We do not have an experienced, natural goalscorer to cover Jelly. Vellios is young, but may have a bright future and I am one of many who feels Big Vic will be best at a lower level. I would, however, love him to prove me wrong.

So, what about the swansong with two seasons of 10 - 15 goals from 10 starts and 20 subs appearances?

I guess the Silly Season is running out of steam. Owen now?

Medical? That should be the end of that one.

Please god, not Owen! He offers nothing to the playing squad. He's only after one last big payday.

Shame about the Hoilett deal if it's true. I'd have liked him at GP.

Forget Owen. He is finished. Was very quick when younger but injuries and age have slowed him down. Maybe on a pay per game basis but please not at Everton.

I don't usually let rumours bother me but I can't take much more of this Michael Owen shit, it's every fuckin year! I'd rather have Mark Owen. Fuck it, I'd rather have Jason Orange. Going for a lie down now...

Hooray!! The annual 'Owen,' thread.

"No way. Wouldn't touch him with a bargepole."

"Why not? He could still 'do a job.'"

Etc......

Well, at least I am starting to believe that we won't be selling any players in order to buy this summer!

(Little Devil on shoulder whispers, "That'll be going straight to the bank then?")

Nice little winner in the derby? That'll do me, son!

That greedy bastard would probably want about £120 grand a week er thanks but no thanks, Micheal. I'd hate to see him in an Everton shirt and please let no-one give that old chestnut, "Imagine him coming off the bench and getting the winner against the shite" – because, believe me, it doesn't happen for us.

Really.... Owen?!?!

I don't think Moyes would go anywhere near him.
Denis Richardson
764 Posted 13/07/2012 at 16:46:05
Erm only on ONE condition. He only gets paid if he either scores or gets an assist. Simple pay as you play is a no for me as he's also got to deliver.

He can have 30k a goal or for an assist and can train and use the facilities for free....hows that for motivation...

Jay Harris
768 Posted 13/07/2012 at 16:53:09
Let him stick to training horses and the only place he should be allowed at GP is the spectators area.

A legend in his own mind.

Doesn't contribute around the pitch, dreadful touch and has lost his pace.

We have more than enough limited players don't need anymore passengers.

Pay as you play, go for it. He still scored at man U when he got to play....... then again I would fancy my chances to score a couple with the service the midfield gives.

The second his hamstring evaporates, kick him to the kerb....how's that for loyalty?

ps...he could do a job for us...etc

Owen's game was all about pace and sadly that has gone. I just can't see what he could offer us. Still it would be nice to see him score the winner in a derby.
Tony McNulty

A mouthwatering prospect ... viz. gobshite.

The only thing this mercenary is good for now is peering up the South end of a North-bound horse.

Michael Owen

Why not on a pay per play basis, it would annoy the Pool no end. Still has an eye for goal and would give cover to Jelavic

Mike Powell
792 Posted 13/07/2012 at 18:08:18
If that little mercenary joins us, I will give up going.

He had the chance the other year but fucked us off to go to Manure... Please please don't come to us, you little turd.
Scott Hamilton
793 Posted 13/07/2012 at 18:02:57
I remember his quote when we tried to sign him previously but he chose to go elsewhere. I think it was something like "the timing wasn't right" which was just a euphemistic way of saying that we weren't big enough for him.

Well fuck him! We're too big for you now Owen. You were a boyhood blue and your Dad played for us yet you chose other teams based on their financial clout when you could have rejuvenated your career with us and become a hero at a time when you still had a few years ahead of you.

Hopefully it's just a stupid rumour...
Mike Green
798 Posted 13/07/2012 at 18:23:24
That pretty uh sums it up for me Scott (793)

Owen can't exactly say 'couldn't go to EFC out of respect to LFC' either. Man Utd anyone.....? If we signed him it'd feel very Gazza / Ginola to me.

It would be like a last days of Walter Smith signing. Give Velios a chance or get Lukaku in on loan.
Brian Waring

We're already taking a gamble with Kneesmith, can't afford to take another one on.

Please God, No !
Jamie Barlow
811 Posted 13/07/2012 at 19:07:23
I'd love Owen to sign for one reason only.

To score the winner in the derby.

If that's not written in the stars, he can fuck off.

Rearrange the following words to make a well know phrase or sentence.

The. Off. Little. Fucking. Greedy. Fuck. Mercenary.

Sorry Micheal but it is you who are not good enough for Everton these days infact you are finished with a capital F.
Ean Palese
840 Posted 13/07/2012 at 20:56:03
Wait a minute ... he just might score in his first and only appearance for the club (before he pulls his tattered hamstring which will effectively end his season).
Barry Stevens
841 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:00:33
I seem to be in the minority but I think he could do well for us. Either coming off the bench for the last 20, or filling in when Jelavic is injured. He didn't score goals just because he had pace. He's not the player he once was but he's still worth more goals than Vic and Vellios...
Ian Bennett
842 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:11:37
No. For gods sake no. What next Jeffers....
Mike Green
844 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:14:53
They could both do a job for us. Might have to bring their own kettle, tea bags, milk and sugar, but a job nonetheless. One could push the trolley.....
Phil Sammon
845 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:14:27
Either we sign a good player or give Vellios a go. To be fair to the lad, he scored when he came on. When he started he struggled but that was because he was so isolated. With some creativity and decent crossing I think he could be a good player. Certainly better than that lump, Victor.
Lee Courtliff
846 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:15:49
I'd have him on a pay-as-you-play.

We need cover and he will never lose his ability to finish a half chance in the area.

Ian Bennett
848 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:26:35
I would prefer the lad from palace - throw in Baxter to do the deal.
Drew O'Neall
852 Posted 13/07/2012 at 21:58:02
Owen is the player you sign after the transfer window, if you didn't get the players you wanted, and Bill sold everyone at 11:59, and the banks took the money, and Louis Saha already joined Stoke, and we went in to liquidation, and we got relegated to League 2, and our legs all fell off.
Gavin Ramejkis
855 Posted 13/07/2012 at 22:15:02
Barry, Anichebe is shite and even he scored twice as many goals as that glass ankled mercenary did last season and Owen had Man U players around him to get his haul of 3, Anichebe had Everton players to get 6, no thanks, I'd rather we didnt feed that millionaire redshite more money to play with his horses, he has already turned us down more times than enough to chase another mug to fill his bulging bank account.
Dick Fearon
856 Posted 13/07/2012 at 22:35:33
Please tell me its not true. Just heard we are considering Michael Owen as a make weight in a Baines transfer. Grr.
Lyndon Lloyd
858 Posted 13/07/2012 at 22:36:10
It's not true, Dick.

1) Everton are not interested in Michael Owen. The whole "Owen having a medical" thing was started by a 16 year-old kid on Twitter.

2) You can't use a player you've already released as a "makeweight".

Christine Foster
867 Posted 13/07/2012 at 23:07:05
That's a resounding NO from the fans then, no need to run a poll on this one!

It probably also means the club would do the deal.

Don't you love Everton?

Jimmy Sørheim

Only as a pay as you play, and as a last resort before the season starts.
James Flynn

Since it's Owen, have to say strictly as a fan of the sport. Who would have guessed back around the turn of the century, that that electrifying youngster would wind up being talked about this way in 2012.

Simon Birtles
927 Posted 14/07/2012 at 12:15:04
Apparently he as good as shook hands with Moyes about coming to us before deciding he would sooner get splinters in his arse at Man U, fcuk him, not good enough anymore and he has had his chance to play for a great club and snubbed us, let some other mug pay his pension contract
Paul Hughes

One of my workmates is a Forest fan. With their Kuwaiti cash Owen is on the way there according to City Ground rumour control. No need to worry then!

A week later and the Daily Mail, one of the worst sources for media generated lies reagarding impending transfers, would proclaim that Everton pull out of bid to sign former England striker Owen – when there was no evidence they were ever even remotely interested.
