Talk of Richardson reappears

The Northern Echo has seen fit to revive a story from May that Everton have some interest in Sunderland's Kieran Richardson, on the back of continuing press speculation that Leighton Baines will join Manchester United.

David Moyes is supposedly a long-standing admirer of the 'versatile' left-sider, who has played at both midfield and full-back during his time at the Stadium of Light.

27-year-old Richardson is one of the longest-serving players on the Black Cats' books, but started just one of the club's last 11 league games last season.

Out of all the players Moyes admires, I'm sure Richardson is a long way down his list. At least I hope so!

The Guardian site is saying that Pienaar would cost £2.5M, but it doesn't quote sources.

I've heard Keith that it might be £2.5M rising to £5M. Dunno what the rise depends on. Us winning the Champions League hopefully!

There could be something in this because he ticks all the boxes; Man U reject, versatile, can play LM, LB, CM and in the hole, the only drawback that he's not very good in any of the positions AND he's found God (in Sunderland of all places)

A friend told me that Man Utd sold him to Sunderland years ago but with a specific clause that says he must join Everton as a down payment for Barkley/Baines/Fellaini (or anyone else Everton get who is good).

Ferguson has come out and said that any left back he buys would only be as cover for Evra. I can't see him spending what for him would be a large part of a limited transfer budget on a player who would only be cover and would not like it. Baines is used to getting forty games plus a season at Everton. Utd or not, he's not going to want to move just to act as cover.

Kieran – I would think the fact Man Utd has put in two massive bids for that young Brazilian would finally put the Baines thing to rest. Even though it never made sense to begin with without like rumours of Evra departing.
