Isn't this the same player that was very near signing a deal with Liverpool just 10 days ago? He was quoted as saying " Liverpool would suit me fine they are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and would help me achieve one or more goals as they are in Europe consistently year after year" What happened there?

Loan this season and buy nest summer. Perfect speedy replacement for Distin.
Zapata can play anywhere along the back 4 as well.
I would be over the moon with this deal.

If he can play at right back them this would solve our biggest problem

I doubt this lad is any better than Hibbert who isn't IMHO a problem at all. Our defensive problem is no cover at LB

Don't know much about him to be honest. Don't think we have a problem at RB but I accept Hibbos limitations, plus in terms of cover, Cap'n Phil, Heitinga and Jags have all played there. As for LB cover, Baines will always be 1st choice (so long as he stays). Distin, Neville and Garbutt give us options as cover there. With Baines excellent record of rarely being injured, we shouldn't need the cover very often. I'd rather spend any cash on Pienaar or a right winger.

Why would you doubt that Martin?

No idea if he's any good...never heard of him to be honest, but it's always going to be difficult going up against the big boys like Albion for a player's signature.

On paper, this would be a brilliant signing. But then again, so was Per Krøldrup...

Richard #186, maybe he looked at the league table and figured out that the RS are not in Europe?

Eric #282 - aren't the RS in Europe via the Mickey Mouse Cup?

I've seen him play for Villarreal; he's quite a physical player, very reminiscent of Distin.

Who?
I've never seen him or heard of him...

He used to be worth about £30M on a certain game we don't talk about...

True Peter, I forgot about that.
With their luck they'll win the bloody thing and UEFA will amend the rules to allow the winners into the Champions League.

I didn't think a defender was a necessary spend, either for a loan and paying wages or for an outright purchase. Fair enough, a loan would pave the way for a possible purchase next season when our players are a older but we do have Duffy and Garbutt coming through this season.
