Blues make approach for Tannadice striker

27/08/2012 | Comments (40)
Another "Sky Sports understands" story suggests that Everton have made an approach to Dundee United regarding striker Johnny Russell.

The 22 year-old was called up to the Scotland squad earlier this year and has apparently caught David Moyes's eye.

The Blues are also being linked again by Sky with Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran for £1.5m.

Additionally, there are continuing murmurs on the Internet regarding M'Baye Niang and Charlie Adam. Though there is nothing concrete to point to in terms of evidence on either score (unless you count Alan Nixon in the Mirror), the French forward appears to have opted for the better deal available at AC Milan, while Adam is a potential target before Friday's deadline.

Another Naismith: same position, same pace, movement, eye for goal... but it can't hurt to get a younger one.

Mmmmm.... how many strikers are we going to need since we only play one up front?

Lots of rumours saying Adam has signed... to be honest I think Moyes will get the best out of him and be a decent backup for Gibson...

But I hope we get a pacy winger — c'mon The Ginger One, we need pace!

I think this would be a good move. He is a Moyes type player who is "versatile" and looked Utd's best when we played them at Tannadice pre season.

He is very much a team player but has a gallousness about him which sets him apart from most players

Gallousness? Er...what is that?

Just heard this one as well. Aged 22, strike rate 1 in 4, very highly rated.
Also a strong whisper of Charlie Adam having a medical in the next 48 hours at Goodison, hhe wants to stay on Merseyside.

I know him playing for the RS isn't ideal but he is the perfect player for Moyes and he nearly kept Blackpool up all by himself. If true I see it as a positive.
Other interesting rumors:
- Anichebe to decide between Wigan and Blackpool.
- if he chooses Blackpool then Ince is coming the other way
- if he chooses Wigan then that cash is used for Ince and Coleman goes to Blackpool on a season loan
- Heitinga wants out and Moyes scrambling for replacement. Inter likely destination.
- Baines to sign new 5 yr deal
- Sturridge to come in on loan. If this happens it could be first step towards Fellaini move next yr.
- and Donovan in on a permanent deal in Jan

Other than Heitinga leaving the players that might come in will improve the squad (dundee striker incl) but I still can't find any right back names linked with us I guess Moyes is happy with Hibbo and Neville for this season

Very similar to Jelavic in regards to liking a first-time strike. Missed a sitter in the pre-season game. I'd rather McKay-Steven.

Heitinga won't leave. If he does then we need to spend any income on a new centre back.

Heitinga will get his chance.

Phil McNutly on BBC and hour ago "Everton moves before Friday were going to be shaped by Niang decision. Looks like he's off to AC Milan so Moyes will close on other targets"

I wish I was... I'd be happy with Felli as my only client, I could retire in a few tears
The above represents a small percentage of the possible deals which didn't sound too unrealistic
Phil - with 2 yrs left on his contract I hope Heitinga gets a new deal otherwise we could be facing a Pienaar situation again. He won't sign a new deal next yr and his value will drop.

Looks like Niang is off to Milan... gutted. It would've shown some ambition from Moyes buying young players instead of selling them.

Charlie Adam could be a goer, I think I would be OK with that; turn him around... get Moyes to work him hard and rub it in the Redshite's faces. Could be possible... he was blinding for Blackpool not so long ago, he can't've suddenly turned to shit. It must have something to do with that shower over the park, ruining a player!!!

I've just been to the US and met my mate out there who lives in Bordeaux. He reckons from friends there that Gourcuf is not moving and the guy loves living there and has eyes on a move to a bigger Ligue 1 club.

He also reckons were the other team in for M'Vila from Rennes but we lodged a really low bid before Spurs put an £11m bid in.

However, apparently we've offered straigt cash plus appearances whilst spurs bid is higher its spread payments which the player's club are not happy with.

James - I agree the possible deals I've mentioned are 90% speculation and I would never claim to be ITK, last year no one heard about Drenthe or Straq till the last day and I read an article that quoted an agent who said that none of the football agents he knows use Twitter... You can't deny the entertainment value but I guess we'll have to compare notes on the 1st :-)

I find the Heitinga leaving one quite believable. I had my eyes peeled (agony) for the first game to see who got the nod: Heit or Jags. Maybe Jags had been better in pre-season; or maybe Heitinga is leaving.

But I can't see us selling unless we get a replacement lined up first. But I would hope we are still putting most of our effort into getting a striker, if true that Milan's got Niang.

Please stop mentioning that fat goofy jock, Adams — we don't want him anywhere near our midfield. He's got a great left foot but he's a carthorse... slow across the ground, late into the tackle, and can only compete for 70 mins.

We've already got Gibson who's a bit sloppy when the tempo picks up; we can do without another.

Heitinga seems happy at Everton. I can't see him leaving. All it takes is one poor performance or one injury in the back line and he's back in the team.
Phil Davies
684 Posted 28/08/2012 at 01:17:27
Wasn't it only last week Heitinga had declared his future was at Everton and he wanted to fight for his place in the team.

I think the link with Russell is purely speculation and nothing more, I can't see us signing 3 forwards in 1 transfer window, The Charlie Adam link looks a goer though.

685 Posted 28/08/2012 at 01:34:43
Charlie Adam? No thanks... he is shite. Even my red mates say he is useless. He had one good season with Blackpool, he was crap at Rangers before that. Please don't sign that lazy fat slow useless fucker .
Keith Glazzard
686 Posted 28/08/2012 at 01:32:29
The logic supporting the Charlie Adam rumour has to be that newby Rodgers wants to clear out KKK's signings. The leg end having pissed £35mill against the wall makes that one difficult to sell on, but Adam was more like £7mill I think. So a deal could be struck. A fine player for a very decent Blackpool team, he would give us good cover in MF.

And ex Rangers - does that count? I can see Moyes going for that if its possible.

Very good money will have to come in for Johnny Heitinga - for him and us - very quickly this week for him to be leaving us.

We have to wait and see.

Sturridge moving 'oop North'? I'll choke on my muesli the day that happens.

Vic out and Ince in would be OK in my book, but how much would Wigan pay if they wanted him? If they wanted him?

Ps - about Moyes selling young players. My City mates here in South Manchester are asking me

- who is this Rodwell you've sold us?

- you bought, I reply

- what does he do?

- ask Mancini, I reply.

I see that Huddlestone is being lined up to be loaned out to Stoke City. He would be a good acquistion for cover for Gibson in midfield. However he might not want to come to us if little chance of first team football.

Like others I see central defensive midfield as the area where we are now weakest in terms of numbers. I do not think it a coincidence that the shape of the team collapsed against Villa as soon as Gibson came off. Shades of the hangover we had after Carsley left.

Martin Mason
696 Posted 28/08/2012 at 04:12:26
Huddlestone can be a very good player but he isn't Moyes' type. always seems to be carrying too much weight too. Wtf are we getting all of this money from for purchases?

Having now heard both Moyes and Captain Neville state that they wouldn't be too worried if we don't sign anyone else this transfer window, I have a feeling that we won't sign anyone else.

We could definitely do with a bit more depth in key areas, but for me, the most important thing is hanging on to what we've got. I would rather none out / none in, as opposed to one out / three in (assuming the one would be a big name in order to finance the other three).

Our squad is definitely more about quality than quantity at present. This may have an impact as the season progresses and injuries kick in, but at the moment it certainly makes watching the blues a far more enjoyable experience than it has been at any other time under Moyes' stewardship.

I always speak well of SPL signings, and regardless of Russell's thunderous strike in the Dundee derby last week (and ignoring his red card!) and regardless standing up for him on his strike rate due to him playing out wide in midfield so much over the years - I still don't think he's ready for the EPLs standards.

I agree with Barry Stevens that Dundee United's other great talent at the moment Gary Mackay-Stevens (who tore Hibbert a new one in the pre-season game in the first half) would be a better fit right now, although he's about to go in for an operation that - I'd imagine - should stop him passing a medical before the transfer deadline anyway.

I hope they don't go anywhere near that one-paced one-footed shank, Adam. I remember his part in getting Rodwell sent off in last season's Goodison derby. Typical sneaky red twat... he won't be welcome at Goodison, believe me. I reckon it could be a goer though with Moyes's brother being his agent. I hope not...

I've already mentioned about getting Huddlestone on loan before but I definitley don't want Adam. We could also look at getting Nzonzi from Blackburn instead as he has fallen out with Kean.

Gourcuff would be a miles better acquisition at £1.5mill.

"Looks like Niang is off to Milan, gutted , would of shown some ambition from Moyes buying young players instead of selling them" - Eh? he had a trial and didn't we agree a price? HE then chose Milan over us.

How is this the fault of Everton or Moyes?

See Rodders (albeit unfairly) was the cause of the Redshites second goal, two games, two goals given away. (the same shite as Richards last season, thigh to arm)

Richard Reeves

Although Neville has been quite good in midfield recently, he is no backup option for when Gibson or Fellaini get injured as he normally butchers the midfield... so, for that reason, signing Adam makes sense to me. Initially I thought this is typical of Moyes if true: two steps forward and one step back... but thinking about it, he could be a very important addition.

When / where has Moyes said he wouldn't be too worried if we didn't sign anyone else before Friday (Jamie Sweet #699)?

I thought he has gone on record as saying the squad is a lot smaller than he would like and he was looking at bringing more players in. He did admit that he might not be successful in that but didn't really say it wouldn't bother him from what I have heard / read.

I have been pleased with the way Moyes has been talking because he has made it clear that our success this year is likely to hinge on our injury record. After Rodwell was sold he said he wanted at least two more (attackers, preferably with pace) and when he said that he would like to give Barkley a loan spell somewhere to bring him on it was contingent on strengthening the squad.

Mirallas is in and Niang is a bust, so that leaves at least one more (and hopefully 2 or three) to get by midnight on Friday. The signs are that Moyes is still hoping to do some business.

Alex (#762), it is Gouffran not Gourcuff for £1.5 million, unless Lyon are touting their injured French international midfielder?

Keith @ 686, Sturridge is from oop North. He is a Manchester lad that joined Chelsea from City and had a loan spell at Bolton a couple of years ago, so maybe not so much of a no go.

Adam, in my opinion, would be a good buy for us. He played a blinder at Blackpool, I was pissed off when the RS got him and was quite surprised that he didn't gel with the team. Reminded me of Steve Mcmahon, the type of player I think we need to boss the midfield with gibson whilst the others go off and be creative!

Si Cooper #795.

http://www.evertonfc.com/evertontv/interviews/7672

4:30 Moyes says if he doesn't bring anyone in he "wouldn't be too disappointed" as he's "happy with the players he's got".

You're right that Moyes also says he would like to add one or two more, but you can be sure that as soon as BK heard the above come out of DM's mouth, he would've breathed a sigh of relief that he won't be under too much pressure to finance any other players this window.
