Everton in Kennedy talks

29/08/2012 | Comments (41)
Everton have reportedly made a £250,000 bid for Kennedy, who has impressed during the opening games of the SPL season.

Shiels says the 17-year-old's head has been 'pickled' by the prospect of moving to Goodison Park, but has suggested Kennedy would be better off staying at Kilmarnock.

"The boy's head has been pickled with talk of Everton," said Shiels in the Daily Record.

"There are negotiations taking place at the top end of each club.

"I have spoken to Matty's father and told him what I think is the best thing for his son's career. A young lad's career is the most important thing here, not finances."

I would be a bit dissappointed if this was our '1 or 2 new faces' before the deadline. We need to pad the squad out a little, or a lot, but we know we wont get that so a little would do.

However, I have never seen this lad play, but for any lad that age to be a regular (ish) starter in the physical SPL, that is good sign.

Don't think it will worry Moyes too much if the lad has a pickled head, after all he signed Van Der Meyde. IthangYEW!

Dave Prentice in the Echo seems to say that Kennedy might be our lot. He's not expecting much else... We will see, I imagine there might be another more senior player added. I'd actually rather like to see Charlie Adam here, and the chances are more likely I guess if Walcott moves to Liverpool.

028 Posted 29/08/2012 at 16:57:45
Charlie Adam is like a Peter Reid or a Lee Carsley. Would that work in this day and age. or is the game getting beyond that tipe of Player?

Mark Tanton# 024 Are you seriously making a comparison between Theo Walcott and Charlie Adam by suggesting the RS would release Adams only if they get Walcott as a REPLACEMENT??????. Because that is logically what your posing is suggesting.

One is a footballer the other is a dirty mouthy scumbag and the footballer is Walcott.

Never seen the kid but at 17 you're just buying potential, whether that potential is realised....all we can do is hope.

At the end of the day 250k is not much (even for us) - to put it into perspective that's about one months pay for Fellaini or Moyes. If the kid works out he will be sold for a 7 figure sum, if not, win some loose some.

I just hope Moyes isn't spending the last couple of days of the window trying to sign a 17 year old kid, who presumably will only be for the future and not now. Would surely be better spent trying to get in a more senior pro(s) to beef up of the squad, even if just on loan.

2 days and counting...

We should admit we knacker kids and stick to buying "pre made" players.

Something badly wrong at youth level here.

Breaking news: We have put a bid in for wee Jimmy Krankie. We still need cover on the right side going forward, so Moyesie thought we should go for a right swinger......

Thought I heard something earlier about Stephane Mbia being courted by two Premiership clubs (Stoke and an unnamed one). Seems likely that it is QPR who have already been linked with him, but they are also linked with someone from Real Madrid in the same position.

As we were widely reported to be after him a few years ago for double the £4.5 million that Marseille appear prepared to accept (desperately need the money apparently), and he has played at centre-back as well, what do people think as an alternative to getting Charlie Adam?

Or maybe just a nice 25-year-old Dimple malt.

"Just been to the gym. They've got a new machine in. Could only use it for half an hour, as I started to feel sick. It's great though. It provides me with everything I need – Kit Kats, Mars Bars, Snickers, Potato Chips, the lot..."

I was explaining to my wife last night that when you die you get reincarnated but must come back as a different creature. She said she would like to come back as a cow. I said, "You obviously haven't been listening..."

My girlfriend says she thinks that I might be a stalker. Well... she's not exactly my girlfriend yet.

The thing I love most about this hot weather is the short skirts and low cut tops.... although, they do make me look a bit gay.

I sincerely hope we don't go for that thing from across the park! I remember him being instrumental in getting Rodwell sent off in last year's derby, waving the imaginary card and getting down Twatkinson's ear.

He's a shithouse, one-footed and one-paced... I thought he was going to be part of King Kenny's revolution – didn't happen though, did it, Chas, you gummy fucker??

I hope he rots in that hell hole over there and never graces our hallowed turf. This is Everton, sonny – do you hear me? Everton! – not a shite side ending in 'pool'

Two words: not wanted, not needed... er, sorry – that was four.

I hope we don't sign Oveido. If Utd were after him he must be decent but £5 mil for a back up left back is a lot, especially considering Garbutt looks like he could be a decent player given some games. Just watched the post match interview and he looked really upbeat after making his debut. Signing a foreign player and knocking him back to 3rd choice could knock his confidence and development.
Si Cooper

Was puzzled by the Oviedo rumour but then a couple of things occurred to me.

£5 million for a back-up player is a lot unless he provides cover for two. I expect Baines and Pienaar to be first choices in all games barring injury or dramatic loss of form. I think Mirallas and Naismith will eventually be the starters in the right and central berths, with back-up from the likes of Fellaini, Osman, and Coleman, so having a specialist left-sided player to cover both Pienaar and Baines means less disruption overall.

Second factor, and one that I had lost sight of, is that Pienaar still has a court appearance to make in the near future. Even if he is found not guilty it is going to be a difficult period for him and could affect his form for a while.

On top of that, will we lose Pienaar for the African Nations cup?

Don't know if this makes sense to anyone else; maybe I am just putting up barriers to the idea that this makes it easier to sell someone else.

Oviedo can play left midfield as well so makes sense as he is the versatile player DM likes to buy.
