Cardozo price-tag beyond Everton purse

26/09/2012 | Comments (51)
Supposed Everton target Oscar Cardozo is reportedly set to extend his contract at Benfica - and will have an astonishing £47.7m buy-out clause, according to reports in Portugal.

The Paraguayan has become a crowd favourite at Benfica since joining the club in 2007 but had appeared to be on his way out.

But Record newspaper have claimed that the 29-year-old is set to stay with the Portuguese giants on an extended deal, with the buy-out clause set at £47.7m (€60m).

And that will end the English side's hopes of luring Cardozo to the Premier League.

Oh, come on - surely we can scratch together £47.7m!

Kev, you're Club Chairman now as well, aren't you! Come on, lad, give that manager (Kev Johnson) some support.

I'm a bit torn here. As a fan (me) I want the manager (me) to get full backing from the Chairman (me) so that he can buy Cardoza to work in tandem with our top player (me), but I'm getting a lot of stick from the Chief Media Pundit (me), and to top it all I strained my groin (don't ask) and had to get the physio (me) to give me (me) some pretty heavy duty drugs to mask the pain and make everything all twinkly and nice.

To tell you the truth, lads, I feel a bit zonked out at the moment.

Brent, don't knock a man who can sing a perfect third in a major key.

Bet Bill has no idea what I'm talking about.

A few more, come to think of it.

Brent Stephens
340 Posted 26/09/2012 at 18:56:23
Tell us more, Keith! Could we get him to sing as the team come out, instead of having Z-Cars?
Barry Rathbone

The board haven't given any money - funding has come from player sales - why are people expecting them to change the habit of a lifetime?

Barry, stop joking. This is a serious thread.

Keith Glazzard
349 Posted 26/09/2012 at 19:33:21
Brent – could be done!

But only if SuperKev (I blanche at the thought of the fee – forget bloody Cardozo) agrees to dress as the Toffee Lady, do Julie Andrews, and the Gladwys learn the words to —

Doe, a deer, a female deer,
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me a name I call myself
Far, a long long way to run etc.

Well its got to be better than that sodding dirge from Carousel we hear from across the park now and then. Actually, I don't think we can afford it, so Z-Cars it is then.

352 Posted 26/09/2012 at 19:50:13
Fuckin Hibbert. If we weren't spending so much on his wages trying to keep him out of the clutches of Barcelona then we could afford Cardozo. I say let the free scoring journey man go to Spain and rebuild with the money we get for him.
Keith Glazzard
354 Posted 26/09/2012 at 19:55:06
Al - I think you'll find that Hibbo is half-way to Spain already with his trout ranch in France. One more push?

Kev Johnson
382 Posted 26/09/2012 at 21:18:17
What pipes, Ray? I'm not going to have to do the plumbing as well am I? As if I didn't have enough to do!

Keith – you simply cannot beat Z-Cars for a goosebump-inducing intro music. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Also, that lets me off the hook. I mean, Changy the Elephant would be fine, but not a Toffee Lady, please not that.

I know Barry got told off for making a joke in what is a very serious thread, but I'm afraid I've got a joke of my own... Hibbo won't go to Barcelona now, let's face the facts, it's too late – BUT I can see Victor trotting out for AC Milan. Maybe Inter Milan. Definitely one of the Milan teams. They don't have anyone like Big Vic in Italia. No, really, I can see it. All he has to do is keep scoring until Christmas and Roberto is your uncle. You heard it here first...

Ray Roche
386 Posted 26/09/2012 at 22:26:29
Why not do the pipes Kev? You don't appear to be THAT busy...and while you're at it, see if you can still get into that blue frock. You know, the Toffee Lady one you used to wear when your missus is out on a Friday night...
Kev Johnson

Ray - I think you're mixing me up with Freddy Starr.
Keith Glazzard
390 Posted 26/09/2012 at 22:51:08
Tony Hibbert is Vladimir Putin's love child. Nothing else could explain the striking similarity. He can do what he likes, go where he likes, score when he likes.

Kev - Ghangy the elephant? Bound to be out on his ears one day, but talking of classics, how's your Nelly the Elephant?

Kev Johnson
391 Posted 26/09/2012 at 23:00:27
Yeah, I can do Nelly the Elephant at a pinch. No problem. Still got my Giant Elephant costume from the 'It's a Knockout ' heats in summer 1979. I wish they'd bring back that programme. If they had a Premier League version I would volunteer immediately to be part of the team representing EFC. I think I could promise to represent the club with great dignity - or as much dignity as you can show while dressed as a giant elephant carrying a tray of drink up a heavily greased mountain. For some reason, that's an image that reminds me of Big Vic on a bad day.

For the love of god, who the fuck is Kev Johnson and why all the "in jokes"?
Brent Stephens
409 Posted 27/09/2012 at 06:53:00
Peter, Kev(an) Johnson is a regular poster on TW. I saw a bit of banter in one thread where I think it was Keith suggesting Kev could play for EFC. I forget the chronology of it, but somewhere along the way I and others were suggesting he could also be player-manager, and then player-manager-physio, and so its gone on.

KJ is real (as real as things can be in this virtual world). As for his talents in all those roles - well, who knows? But here sure makes some good posts.

Kev Johnson
411 Posted 27/09/2012 at 07:48:37
Similarly, who the flippin' heck is Peter Laverty? And why all the questions?

Incidentally, I was serious about Anichebe going to Italy. He reminds me a bit of Luther Blisset, who briefly shone for Watford then got snapped up by AC Milan where they called him "The Black Pearl". Like Victor, he wasn't actually much good.

John Campbell

Tony Lockett is the highest goalscorer in the history of Australian Rules Football - which is nice. But that has eff-all to do with proper football - which is the object of our discussion here - so all we can do is clap politely at his irrelevant achievements and swiftly move on.

[He claps politely]

The Kev Johnson banter came about when we were allegedly in for Adam Johnson and a poster inadvertently called him Kevin Johnson who is, as already explained, one of our posters. It ran for a few days and crops up now and again. Now… as they use to say, read on!
