Vadis plays: Vadis is linked

The Daily Mail claims that Everton will rekindle their interest in bringing Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe to the club after a loan move collapsed through late paperwork last month:
David Moyes is ready to bolster his push for a top-four finish in the Barclays Premier League with a New Year move for Belgium midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe.

A deadline-day bid for Odjidja-Ofoe in August was thwarted by red tape, but Moyes is back on the trail of the 23-year old after having him watched in Bruges' Europa League tie with Maritimo on Thursday night.

Odjidja-Ofoe played the full 90 minutes and did enough to reinforce Moyes' belief that recruiting him in the January window would help Everton maintain one of their most impressive starts in recent memory.

I hope it's true! And we can get him signed up, before possible injuries, occur.
And let's hope Vincent Kompany's praise is justified

I've got to agree with you, Jay, this looks like a complete fabrication based on nothing beyond the dubious claim that Everton "had him watched". There's nothing in the rest of it that was not common knowledge after the loan deal fell through. I was too generous giving them two blobs on Lyndon's new rating scale...

[Hmmm... the blobs don't seem to be appearing any more... well, nevermind!]

I think all the speculation about Odjidja-Ofoe's transfer possibilities should be concentrated in one column on this site.

The heading, of course, would be... Quo Vadis?

It was in a couple of papers to be fair.

Since 31 August we've had real life football to enjoy. I think the rumour page should be closed until mid-December, especially when it's about a player we already know we're after.

I've never seen any blobs.

Is it like Bluekipper and the fishes?

I've said it before, I'll say it again now. Why are we waiting? Get the deal in place so he's eligible from Jan 1st.

Mike - I guess it depends how desperate Brugge are to do a deal. They could and will just hold out to see what other bids come in. I read that Fulham were interested in buying, whereas we only wanted a loan. Any deal agreement you'd imagine now would be for a permanent deal only, so how much is your bid?

MG 117 - Quo Vadis - 'Where goest thou?'

With this fellow on board we are going to the Champions League. IMHO.

First things first, Bob. First he has to actually "goest to Goodison"... and we'll have to find some money for him, which would no doubt be Quid Pro Quo Vadis.

So at the minute its "Status Quo Vadis"

Hell of a good film that Quo Vadis - remember it well.

Suffered Latin as school - but I do have a particular soft spot for a little known phrase - Nil Satis Nisi Optimum!!

My favourite tho' is the one Moyes used when he entered Goodison for the first time. - 'Veni, vidi vinci'. - He knew then that he has crossed the Rubicon.

I think it is super strange that Vadis was the ONLY midfield player we tried to loan!

Last season we got a decent winger who scored incredible goals once in a while.

Why only go for this Vadis guy? As others here have pointed out we have 3 possible loan players, Vadis being one of them we at least should have got two loan players during the summer.

Moyes certainly had more than enough time after the Rodwell sale to get in a couple loan players in addition to Vadis.

Seems like all of Moyes's transfer effort went towards permanent transfers only, that was a mistake, we need to get loan players in January: 1 for the central defence or right back; 1 for central midfield and 1 for the attack.

West Bromwich got Lukaku on loan, we should be ahead of them, but we chose not to.

The only reason we lost Vadis was because we waited until Deadline Day, and at the latest possible time we tried to get him but lost.

We are now without a single loan player, with our midfield being the weakest I can remember, I find it idiotic that Moyes has missed out on several loan players. We can only hope that Fellaini stays injury free until January., since Gibson already is out injured and has been for many games now.

Meanwhile Barkley is playing for a relegation team in the Championship. How is he going to grow while playing for such a crap team? Moyes has failed us in getting any loan players in, we were all waiting for at least one or two but they never came. I hope that will not come back to haunt Moyes, but I fear that it will soon.

Jimmy none of the top teams are going to loan us anybody decent, they know how close we are to them. With all due respect to WBA they are a yo-yo team so it's not going to hurt the big boys in the long run aka top 4 placing.

Barkley is probable learning more playing for Sheff Wed at the sharp end of a relegation fight where players mortgages and futures are on the line than in the U-21s and whoever is watching him for us – and there will be some one – will also be learning a lot more about him.

I think he took the penalty in is first game that made it 1-1 for Wed that speaks of a little bit of class. It could be that it is all relative and he just looks good at that level, time will tell.

Also, Jimmy remember that getting players in on loan is usually done by the "smaller" clubs. (I don't think ManU, Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Barca or Real Madrid have any players in on loan). Perhaps one of the markers of how ahead Everton have progressed this year is that we have zero players on loan. Having said that, I do expect Moyes to move in January for a couple of loans - I am almost 100% sure that one of them will be Timmy Cahill for a couple of months from the MLS to fill in for any injuries or suspensions and also for the fans to give him a proper send-off.

Every rumour between now and January will generate more interest in him from other clubs and put the price up.

Ajay #239 if there's even a suggestion of a loan for Cahill to give him a send off then we truly are a small club as Martin suggests.

Jimmy, #234, we never had a chance to get Lukaku. The only reason he's at WBA is Steve Clarke spent most of his playing career and began his coaching career at Chelsea.

Wouldn't you be amazed if we didn't go for him, given that we tried bloody hard to sign him only a month ago ?

Behave Lee!

Ian I thought we'd wanted to sign him permanently but it was too late and loans were quicker to go through.

Everton are crying out for another class midfielder to replace Osman who is just not good enough. If this Ofoe is the man then let's hope he is signed quickly on or after 1 January so that Everton can consolidate the good position we all hope they will still be in.

Can anybody explain why the loan deal for Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe was not ratified by FIFA when it was reportedly only missed by minutes or hours in the Summer transfer window, when so many other loan deals, i.e. Stephen Warnock from Villa to Bolton and Jermain Jenas from Spurs to Forest were, long after the transfer window was closed?

Gary, the loan window to non Premier League clubs is open until the end of March. Pretty much in line with old transfer window for everybody.
