Everton tracking Dawson & Huddlestone?

31/10/2012 | Comments (25)
Everton are claimed to be tracking Spurs fringe players Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone, and could 'swoop' for the pair in January, according to one transfer-baiting website.

It is claimed that Everton could make a bid for Dawson in January, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy supposedly valuing him at around the £8m mark.

Everton interest is also asserted in Tom Huddlestone, but they may only be able to offer loan deals to both players; however, Tottenham want cash up front.

The Hudd is simply the best passer in the League —he reminds me of Hoddle — and Dawson would be a great signing, a bigger stronger version of Jagielka.

Can't see Spurs letting these two go out on loan.

Good decent players, the two of them.

Bob, why would money-grabbing be in his genes? Please explain.

I could see Moyes going for Huddlestone.

Hes the right age, and for me a very good passing deep lying mid. We could loan him till the end of the season and if it worked out then we could take it from there.

I think he would fit in nicely the way the side is shaping up........ Gibbo, Baines, Pienaar, Mirallas, Coleman, Ossie, Fellaiini & Jelavic. He would fit very nicely into the way the side is developing.

Dawson is still young for a centre half, 28/29 and was a regular under Harry Redknapp, he was given a 5 year deal not long back hence the potential fee. One problem for me, I would really like the next centre half we take to be quick.

I know Moyes has an excellent record with 'cast-offs', players unwanted or who don't fit in for whatever reason at other clubs and come good with regular football at Everton but I think if we want to be challenging Tottenham which we do then the players not good enoguh for their team are not the players to take. Stoke were after Huddlestone and QPR were after Dawson. Why sell Heitinga )presumably that's how the funds would be made) to buy someone who is a lesser Jagielka. Huddlestone is a bit like Gibson, great passer but very slow. We need a new Arteta to compliment Gibson in the middle (as Osman is doing for Neville this season) someone with a bit of pace (preferably more than Arteta had) and creativity.

I'd take both. I'm surprised to read that Dawson is only turning 29 in a few weeks. Still, too injury prone for 8m. We'd have to shitty Jonny. Funny how outrageous people found that prospect 2-3 months ago.

I think this is baloney... There is no way we would pay a Spurs fee for Dawson with Levy in charge. Huddlestone may be slightly more likely, but as a loan, instead of a purchase,

We need another central midfielder obviously, and I'd like to see us get in Odjidja-Ofoe for real this time, or look at taking Ramsay on loan, as his options will be severly limited with the return of Wilshere and Rosicky.
I also think we need another creative/speedy wide player, and I would love to see Donovan back.

Wouldn't be the worst signings in the world but I don't believe they're necessary. Also we certainly couldn't get them on the cheap with Levy calling the shots, and neither of them would get into our first XI if everybody was fit. Holtby and Odjija-Ofoe for me.

How do you tell the sex of a chromosome? Pull down its genes and take a look!!! I'll get my coat.....oh Bob's already gotten it.

I would love both off them; I cannot see it though because Levy is a hard man to deal with.

Both really good players. The fact they don't get a game says more about AVB than the players themselves. If its true then it looks like the end of Heitinga and I think Huddlestone is a better player than Gibson, certainly a better range of passing.

Dawson and Huddlestone? — it's a No for me.

Didn't Duffy do the biz at centre half when he come in?

While personally not convinced Barkley is the second coming of myth and legend I'd prefer he had a proper go here to find out before splashing the rent money on these.

Dawson = Saha injury probs and Huddlestone is Rodwell with miles on the clock.

It's a global game now with the EPL being the promised land I can't believe we can't find enough decent players who are both fit and of the right age.

Vertonghen at spurs would have been a great signing for centre back. Shawcross could probably do better than stoke, Tomkins at west ham is meant to be decent although I haven't seen him.

Everton have been linked with Ogbonna from Torino which seems unlikely. Would love Chiellini from juve, a top quality left sided Italian clogger,, he was outstanding at the euros.

Dawson – no; Huddlestone – yes... at the right price, ie, not too expensive!
I would still rather we picked up Odjidja-Ofoe on loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

I don't think that either of these are likely, we don't like doing business with Levy if we can help it and neither of them are too much better than what we've got. Dawson turns like a truck and Huddlestone's safe but not worth the sort of money that we'd end up paying!

Although I think that he'll end up at Arsenal, I'd love to get Holtby and a couple of DM's bargains. But, if the papers are on the right lines, £30 million for Fellaini in January could make it quite an important month so I hope, if he does go, that we look at something better than Tom Huddlestone!

We certainly need another centre back at this time if Duffy isn't ready. Distin is getting slow but still decent in the air.

Dawson can play a bit and Huddlestone has talent but looking a little one-paced. Having said that, I saw him play one of his best ever games at centre back and that was against the Blues!

Love Stewart Lee by the way.. Have you seen his 'visible otters' bit where he has a conversation with an imaginary estate agent, critiquing him on the show as it's performed? Can't do it justice but recommended highly.

As we are realistically in contention for 4th place at best (finishing above Chelsea, Man Utd or Man City is probably beyond us at the moment) then Arsenal and Spurs are our main competitors. So why would we need players who are not good enough for Spurs? Pienaar was the exception as he made the wrong move in the first place. By all means develop players from lesser teams who by playing with a stronger squad improve to the next level but if Dawson and Huddlestone can't shine with the quality of players that Spurs have then they are probably best suited to,say, Stoke or QPR.

Personally I hope we keep Fellaini, presuming we play well to the end of the season then we are not going to get any less for him than in January, who knows we might get fourth and he decides to give us another year. We have him on a five-year contract, no rush.

If he does force through a January sale then I would take my chances on Naismith behind Jelavic and I would sign Defour and Holtby. The bank would still get money and we have added an extra player to the squad. I personally wouldn't go near the two Spurs players mentioned. As noted above if we are challenging Spurs for fourth then why are we taking there squad players?

James # 518, Pienaar was not good enough for their team.

I agree with Barry Rathbone 552

Duffy must be close to the starting 11 @Goodison, The lad needs some proper game time, Even as a good sub for the tiring Distin...

We could keep Distin fresher for the following game & give Duffy some game time... Kills two birds with one sub....

Thats the way I would work young players into the team... but what do I know

I like Dawson and although Huddlestone shows good touch and passing ability, he always looks a bit slow. I think we could have done worse than get Jenas on loan till January then maybe look at other options.

You missed out three words, should read...

Pienaar was not DEEMED TO BE good enough for their team.

In defence of Spurs, everybody makes mistakes, I made one myself on 1994.

Im not too fussed if we get Dawson or not if we stay as we are at centre half.

But on this casts offs thing..........Dawson has been deemed surplus by AVB.

He was rated high enough by the previous management team to be given a 5 year deal. I personally think he would have been a very good signing for QPR, they could do with him and he should have made the move considering he was clearly toast when AVB accepted the offer.

When fit and playing regularly the lad a good centre half and at 8 million is worth it, its buttons these days.

Its alot to us thats all, Ive read Heitinga described as a big signing on here!! Weve become conditioned to anything above £6m being massive, it isn't. We paid that for Barmby about 15 years ago.
