€6M Bid for Cheryshev turned down

21/11/2012 | Comments (16)
According to Madrid-based sports newspaper, MarcaEverton have had an offer of €6M turned down by Real Madrid for Denis Cheryshev, a 21-year-old Russian winger who is a product of the Real Madrid "Cantera".

Although quite how they would make such an offer six weeks outside of the transfer window is something of a mystery...

There is an article in today's Marca saying we've offered 6 million euros for one of their B team players. The article (in Spanish) is here: http://www.marca.com/2012/11/21/futbol/equipos/real_madrid/1353489003.html

I decided to take some time out from other stuff to translate it for those of you whose Spanish is a bit rusty:

The Whites said “no” to a fantastic offer last week

Real Madrid reject an offer of 6 million euros from Everton for Cheryshev

Mourinho, who thinks he has potential, has taken him to Manchester

ROBERTO GÓMEZ, MADRID 21/11/12

Denis Cheryshev continues to develop apace. He made his debut for Russia last week under Fabio Capello and on Tuesday José Mourinho called him up to the first team squad to travel to Manchester. For Real Madrid’s most important match of the season so far, the man from Portugal has turned his thoughts to the Castilla winger.

After 10 seasons at La Fábrica, Cheryshev has really made his mark this year. He has started the campaign like a rocket and his performances under Toril have not gone unnoticed by Fabio Capello, José Mourinho, or the scouts who every week fill the stands at the Alfredo di Stéfano stadium.

The latest club to call Real Madrid to inquire into signing Cheryshev was Everton. Last week, the English club made an offer of 6 million euros for the Russian’s services. A fantastic offer given that he is currently a second division player.

Despite the attractive nature of the offer financially, Real Madrid made their feelings absolutely clear: “We’re not selling Cheryshev”. Everton wanted to sign him in January, but the feeling at Madrid is that this is not the time to sell off one of the youth team’s most prominent assets.

Mourinho has made clear that he sees the Russian as one of the players with the greatest potential at La Fábrica and that he could form part of the first team squad in the future, which is why they do not want to listen to any offers for him at the current time. The fact that he has now made his debut with Russia increases his value even more, meaning that he could go for an even higher fee in the summer.

Real Madrid prefer to take their time over this and not rush into a decision. In June, they will consider the situation and decide whether he will form part of the first team squad or if they will accept one of the offers they receive, with a buy-back clause a certainty. Denis will also almost certainly play in the Under-21 European Championship in Israel, which will also increase his value.

Like a ‘rocket’ for Castilla

This season, Denis is one of the stand-out players for Castilla. He has started 11 matches under Toril, he has scored four goals and provided three assists. After three seasons at Real Madrid’s B team, he has finally secured a regular place in the team.

Cheryshev has also played in two friendlies with the first team this year. He scored in the first pre-season match against Oviedo and he also played against Millonarios in the Bernabéu Trophy match.

In these two first-team matches, Cheryshev showed glimpses of his ability, which is why Mourinho has called on him now. He knows that this ‘blackbird’ has got what it takes.

That's the end of that then.

Saw this on Grand Old Team earlier.

I think we're probably all in agreement that the part where we offered 6 million euros is utter bollocks!

Could be possible we're watching him though......any loan deal in January to boost the numbers would be welcome, even if I have never heard of him!!

Wait a minute, did his agent write this story??

Another Russian Winger? If this highly speculative and probably bullshit transfer was to come off, hopefully he would be more Kanchelskis than Bilyaletdinov.

Denis the Russian winger... Sounds like Bily and the Stracq mated, which is absolutely terrifying from the Russian's perspective. I wonder how the biology of that one worked. Like breeding a Great Dane with a Boston Terrier. It just shouldn't work but what happens at Finch Farm stays at Finch Farm.

This sounds pretty unlikely to me. Moyes splashing over £5m on a kid who's essentially playing for the reserves in Spain?

More chance of a 40-yard wondergoal from Hibbert.

€6mill... hey, don't think so... unless it's over 6 years. I think his agent is trying to make a few bob by starting silly rumours. I thought the silly season had come and gone.

Were we offering monopoly money here?

Even if we had that kind of cash, surely a central midfielder would be the priority given Gibson's sicknote status – we'll be lucky to get half a season out of him if it carries on like this... And Neville in midfield has to end some day – surely. (I've been saying that for 2 years now!)

Probably Fellaini in the other direction for this to happen. We haven't got a meg to our name .

Unless he plays in goal, centre back, centre mid or upfront, why would we want him?

Does anyone think we will spend the €6 million elsewhere?

Hopefully we spend the cash on Vossen and Odjidja instead.

Does Jose rate him as highly as Sahin? Moyes has already come out saying what we already knew, that we ain't got a pot to piss in.

A couple of loans that could actually make some sort of impact (not another Anthony Gardner), and don't sell anyone, and I'd be happy with that.

It's all bollocks.

[Can't believe I'm wasting time responding to this.]

Moyes will be lucky to see €6 given the current finances.

I'm afraid he's spent all the Rodwell money.
