Lescott loan part of planned transfer merry-go-round
Even though Lescott started for Manchester City against the Blues 10 days ago, the defender is still not a guaranteed first-teamer at the Etihad Stadium and Roberto Mancini could be persuaded to let him go out on loan for the remainder of the season.
Everton would struggle to match his £90,000-a-week pay packet, though, and that could be a stumbling block to any deal.
Nevertheless, David Moyes has openly admitted that he'd be interested in bringing the 30 year-old back on a temporary deal if it were possible.
With Heitinga himself out of the starting line-up, the Dutchman could be sold next month in a mutually beneficial move for player and Club.
David Maddock in the Mirror suggests that the estimated £7m Moyes could get for Heitinga, who has been linked with Galatasaray and a return to Ajax, is earmarked for Kevin Gameiro (25) of Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse's Wissam Ben Yedder (22).
Maddock reports that talks are "at an advanced stage" with both players' clubs, though each would cost in the region of £6m to £7m themselves.
The Daily Star carry the same report regarding the French duo, suggesting that Everton scouts have monitored them in recent months.
Gameiro has been capped eight times by France but is no longer a regular starter at PSG after the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Carlo Ancelotti is willing to sell but the club wants to recoup the £9M they paid to Lorient for his services 18 months ago.
Wissam, meanwhile, is top scorer at Stadium Municipal this season with nine goals.

The biggest issue would be £90k per week wages although I think there have been instances in the past where clubs have "shared" the wages bill as it reduces the loaning clubs wage bill.

How many other great players called Kevin could we get?
825 Posted 13/12/2012 at 01:26:54
But I can't see how his wages will work out. For a short-term loan, we could agree to pay a portion, but I can't see a long-term deal being viable.
828 Posted 13/12/2012 at 01:59:34
Unlikely though...
830 Posted 13/12/2012 at 02:07:14
I think Mancini used him as a scapegoat for their poor performances in Europe, when really the problem was the manager himself.
I will look forward to it if it happens!
832 Posted 13/12/2012 at 02:25:36
He's got his FA Cup winners and League Champions medals... He might just fancy a genuine crack at a Champions League medal... with us!
834 Posted 13/12/2012 at 03:15:31
The squad's old enough... The Klingon can stay at City.

Back on to the subject though and I think Lescott being back would be a benefit. Realising money wasn't everything and chasing the holy grail was an epic fail worked for Pienaar so why not for Lescott? He also offers goals from the back line on set pieces as well as all of the steady defence stuff. Distin is immense but surely cannot see out more than another season with us at most.

If Heitinga goes for £7 million, coupled with our modest kitty we supposedly have according to Mr Elstone, we just may well have the money, but rather than 2 strikers, just the one and a defensive mid cover.
With Lescott in on loan, who would not be happy with that?

... and the oft forgotten and frequently benched twelfth man extraordinaire, Kevin Richardson. We could use him now ... on the park.
886 Posted 13/12/2012 at 14:31:55
You have to be careful though. I don't believe in having passengers in the club... so, for everyone who comes in, you have to assess what impact that will have on the team — and you wouldn't want him warming the bench waiting until Distin gets injured. Not a lot in it between the two of them; both top class.
888 Posted 13/12/2012 at 14:51:04
Weren't we linked to a young Kevin Johnson recently?

Sell Heitinga in January for £7m and get both Kevin Gameiro and Wissam Ben Yedder in on loan with committment to buy in summer . Sell Anichebe, Vellios in summer for total £4m which leaves us £11m for both and hey another £10m from TV money and hey bob's your uncle we are on our way to CL - easy when you know how !

Jags and Lescott were really good together and complemented each other. Heitinga can go as far as I'm concerned unless he can alter his game and play as a holding midfielder. He does not have enough pace for full back and is a poor tackler for my money.
I reckon Lescott's drawback is his lack of ball control... he is a defender pure and simple without the ball skills and distribution of a top class centre back. It seems that Duffy is not considered good enough to step up and thats a pity. I thought he would be the natural successor to Distin.
How is young Kennedy doing? He was bought for the future.

He went to a club where he won the championship. We can't afford to let pettiness get in the way of improving the team. Still think its arsejuice though.
929 Posted 13/12/2012 at 19:47:23
For example, if Fellaini left in January he would go for £35 million, during the summer the price would be nearer £30 million. Of coarse I'm using that as an example figure, but the price would still be around £5 million more in January, this is due to clubs really not wanting to sell midway through their season and drive a harder bargain.

934 Posted 13/12/2012 at 20:37:53
I beg to differ on Lescott: he left the club under a cloud which we benefited from. However, his distribution was top class, and don't forget he was playing alongside Phil "hoof it up he channel" Jagielka. He also scored more goals from centre half than anyone since Degsy Mountfield and kept Leighton out of the team til he left, so tell me what more has this guy to do to show he is a footballer of the highest quality.

936 Posted 13/12/2012 at 20:53:17
I would take him back, partly because I hate Heitinga, partly because Distin isn't going to last forever, and partly because he is a good defender / a goal threat. My concern is he is not the player he was. Never go back.........
948 Posted 13/12/2012 at 22:24:36
If Mancini doesn't want him, can't imagine finance a concern, though. If he wants him out, be surprised to find Man City ownership saying no because they don't want to eat part of Lescott's wages.
They're paying Rodwell like wages to stay.
949 Posted 13/12/2012 at 22:33:04
If the money can be worked out, bring him back. A first-rate player.
950 Posted 13/12/2012 at 22:40:47
His passing can be poor, he can look ponderous and he has made mistakes. He doesn't look as confident as he did, even the goals have dried up. I think he has been exposed by a succession of average left backs at city, which is leading Mancini not to fancy him. My only surprise is that city haven't been in for Chilini etc.
953 Posted 13/12/2012 at 23:10:13
Losing Heitinga would sting, and another "could have been" in my eyes. I think wherever he goes he'll win titles.
