City slap £8M price tag on Lescott

29/12/2012 | Comments (19)
The Daily Mail claims that Manchester City have valued defender Joleon Lescott at £8M in view of a quick sale in January. Everton are supposedly among those keen to sign him next month but a sticking point could be Lescott's £90k-a-week wages, which Everton may not be willing to match.

Queens Park Rangers and Galatasaray are also reportedly interested.

It wasn't in the looney left propaganda sheet, The Guardian, so it can't be true.

£8 million for a 30-year-old on huge wages that Man City can't get out the door fast enough. Halve it and we'll talk.

I don't think £8M is utterly ridiculous considering a top draw player with 4-5 good years left. As Phil says though, it's twice as much as we could sanction/afford.

If we could get him on loan for the second half of the season and ship Heitinga out, maybe with option to buy for £5M in the summer, it would be a great deal for us.

Were would he play? Most of his best performances/goals came when he was at left back for us.

Like Chris James (#671) says, if we could get him in on loan with a view to a cheaper deal in the summer, I think that would be best and possibly doable as well.

Me personally, I'd like us to get Heitinga out of the door now his agent is making noises about him not being happy at not being more involved with the first team. Hopefully a European club is willing to give us our money back on him.

I'd like to think that Lescott would like to come back and possibly accept similar wages to what Heitinga is on. Isn't he on 50-60 grand a week with us? If he was willing to take such a cut, then I'd love him back with us as him and Jags are just immense together and would make us a lot stronger at the back!

Or, if it wasn't affordable for us, then why not take a punt on Forren?!

...a sticking point could be Lescott's £90k-a-week wages...
Another sticking point could be the £8 million!

I agree: Johnny out and Lescott in on loan with Man City subsidising the wage is the only way he could come in January... but it would be awesome business if he does!

Aidy might like to think he'd come back on reduced wages but I find it highly improbable. I also doubt that he has 5 - 6 seasons left in him. Our squad is ageing and we need sone youngsters. Bring in someone young (like this highly rated Forran) and turn him into a Lescott standard player. We can have Distin and Jagielka as our main pairing whilst the youngster is learning.

P.S. Duffy is never going to be up to it at this level.

I would begrudgingly take him back and even at £8M he may be worth it if he can reproduce the form he showed for us before. I would obviously prefer to pay less for him though!

8 million. With Baines being touted at 15 million. Someone's taking the piss here.

Eh?!

Did great at left back but him and Jags were one of the best partnerships going.

It would only be a foreign club that would pay £8m for a 30 year old Man City have little to no chance of getting that. I still think Duffy is a future first teamer, he just needs more game time to polish up his game.

No way should we dish out £8M for him, bring him in on loan if we really need him. I think we should blood Duffy instead!

This is Lescott who couldn't get out of Goodison Park quick enough a few years ago... indeed, he sulked and was a right nuisance until he got his wish to go to Man City. £8million.... you're having a laugh.

£8M would be a bargain for a top quality player with 4-5 good years ahead of him. I really hope this comes off.

Utter utter bollocks — as is everything in the Daily Mail. What a complete waste of typography!

I'd offer £5m and £50k per week. If it's not enough for City or Lescott, then we move on. Simples.

Bring back Yobo while you're at it! FFS, we need a keeper, an attacking midfielder with shooting boots, and another striker.

With you Joanna (#797)! Doesn't anyone remember the venomous posts at the time? Maybe if we need a new central defender we find someone a bit more loyal (if that's possible in the world of football)!

There must be someone out there that would be proud to pull on a "DARK" blue shirt. I think we have that in the present team.
