Champions League or bust for Moyes?

29/12/2012 | Comments (13)
The Daily Mail claims that David Moyes is seriously considering ending his 11-year association with Everton after the season ends in May — if they don't qualify for the Champions League.

Moyes apparently feels this year represents his best chance of a top-four finish since 2005, and believes Everton must take advantage of a relatively weak Premier League to break into the elite, with Tim Howard, Phil Jagielka and Leon Osman at their peak, it is claimed... and he wants owner Bill Kenwright to back him with two new signings in January.

Failure to finish in the top four could supposedly see the likes of Fellaini, Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines go to balance the books and also leave Moyes seeking a new challenge, possibly abroad. Moyes is a keen student of European football and knows it may offer a better route into the Champions League than he will get in England. He has already expressed a wish to manage in Germany.

In the article, Moyes is quoted as saying: "Last January we needed £5.5m to turn it around. I would hope if we make it to the Champions League we will be getting far more than that. It would help us for the next couple of years and that would help me keep Everton's progress going.

"What worries me is keeping the progression going. If we are lucky enough to make the Champions League, we could try and make another step up the ladder. What would you get for getting into group stages? £10m- £20m? That could change a lot that would happen here."

Back your manager, he will deliver.

Don't back your manager, he will walk.

It's over to you Bill.

For goodness sake, Green et al, – you can't take it with you. Give the man a reasonable budget. He's proven he don't need all that much.

But if Bill doesn't have the money, then what?

Steve@836 couldn't agree more Howard has been that poor this season with his various star jumps useless attempts at punches and being concreted to the goal line that he has made the defenders nervous.

One thing more than any will stop us challenging this season is the lack of clean sheets. It will get impossible to keep scoring 2 and 3 goals a game to claim the points, any team going places digs out a few one nil wins along the way.

By the way, why are there no links on Toffeeweb to the two brilliant interviews with Bill Kenwright on the club website?

Stick them up there Steve. Part two link on the OS isn't working. I'm bursting with anticipation.
As far as the post goes, it might not be far off the mark but the Howard part is just typical of the type of journalism we've come to expect these days.

Don't expect anything from the interview with BK on the OS. First half is about Hillsbrough and the Hollies song. The second half is his description of the Jan 12 deadline day and how he got Jelavic and Piennar back

826:

Then he should bloody well sell up to someone who does have the wherewithal to take us forward. I keep reading and hearing how difficult it is for BK and how he's doing his best in trying circumstances. It's all very unfortunate that every time Moyes comes close to kicking on, he has the rug pulled from under him, all for the want of a few measly shekels.

BK should either put up or shut up and fuck off.

I can't listen to it as I'm not one of the official site's happy clappers, but I imagine it will be the same old gushing bullshit from the chairman; no mention of funds for January, no mention of the price he wants for his shares!!

The club have to find some money to change things but why not give more games to Duffy, Vellios and Barkley if Johnny does go which would be a good move. Have a look abroad for a defender.
