Harry eyeing up Sylvain Distin
Everton will be reluctant to sell Distin, but they are yet to extend the 35-year-old's contract past the end of the season and will bid to take Joleon Lescott back to Goodison on loan, with a view to a permanent move.

Distin's been great for EFC, but I see signs he on the slide. If this deal made it possible to get Lescott back, it would be a good trade.
Probably bollocks though.

Distin has never gelled with Jags – certainly not as well as Lescott did.

I would like to keep Distin, but he will get a longer contract elsewhere, he can leave for free at the end of the season, and he'd probably be not be first choice next season in any case.
Heitinga and Distin = lescott

I'm not in possession of the facts, such as how quick he is on the turn, or over 10 yards or how high he can jump compared to a couple of years ago, but the evidence of my eyes suggests it. He is an incredible athlete, and I am a fan, so I'm not looking for reasons to criticise him, but time is not kind, and we should be ruthless if there's a chance of upgrading any position in the team. And I think Lescott is better.
Still don't think Lescott will return though, unless the unthinkable happens and we lose Bainesy.
COYB!!

Distin was terrific as always and he is worth more than Lescott and twice as much as Heitinga.
His tackle on Torres following Barkleys mistake was top class...Heitinga does not have that kind of pace or positional sense and neither does Lescott.
Distin has a lot of time left in him, he obviously looks after himself and retains his pace and athleticism.
He is a credit to his profession.

The old man would have been MotM if we had got a draw. His saving tackle on Torres when he was alone against two attackers was world class. The timing was perfect. I hope he stays at the club to teach young centre backs. He is a great professional.

Back to Distin though, usually strong but always has a mistake in him. You don't even have to look that far back to find one. For the Wigan goal his defending was a joke. There are plenty of other examples. My overall point is though that we need to sort the backline out. We ship far too many goals and most of the time it is down to individual errors.

The man is one of the finest professional footballers to have played at Everton in recent years. His fitness and conduct are a perfect example to set before any young player as to how to play the game at the top level well into your 30's and to do it successfully.
His performance against Chelsea was absolutely tremendous throughout - with the tackle on Torres one of the highlights of the match. As for ludicrous statements such as "he always has a mistake in him" could we name ANY footballer living or dead who didn't?
I would keep the man at the club at all costs if he so wishes either in a playing capacity or in a coaching role. If efforts ARE being made to bring Lescott back (which I doubt) it certainly should not be at the expense of losing Distin.
Much better to get rid of the Dutch centre-back who seems constantly to be spending time being associated with moves away rather then buckling down to the job for which he and many others are so obscenely overpaid.
