Football Italia say that Everton have reportedly joined the race to sign Cagliari defender Davide Astori whose price-tag is thought to be around €10m.

The 25-year-old Italian international is said to be hot property on the January transfer market after Cagliari revealed their financial difficulties.

Good player but are we selling someone to sign him?!

Nevermind all the gossip about who are we signing, I find it annoying and disturbing that the control FREAK which is our Manager will not commit and has not been pushed into answering whether he is staying or leaving!!

His contract is up at the end of the season, and as far as I can see he is waiting to see where Everton finish the season before committing to another deal!! I hope I'm wrong, but this is unbelievable!

Sign a contract or fuck off now!! Stringing the club along like this is a joke.

Andy,
He's seeing out his contract, not like we can get a transfer fee for him. He is completely entitled to see out his contract and decide what to do. If he just quit now, that would completely screw the team. What are you talking about? Why wouldn't he wait and see where we finish, or more importantly whether he will finally be able to invest in the squad and not have 2 or 3 of his top players sold?

Andy, any other manager would have left us ages ago. I can't blame Moyes as his hands have been tied behind his back with little to no investment down through the years. Where would have been without him???

Do you remember the dark days?? ... only just beating Wimbeldon and Bolton being relegated on goal difference!!! I don't want any more of that. Moyes has brought consistency to the club and I only hope that someone will invest in us.

If we sell Heitinga, then maybe we can afford Astori, otherwise we may struggle to get him.

I get puzzled why people are so concerned about our manager's contract being up. It was so obvious in summer he would have went to Spurs if they offered him the job. If he gets a better offer, he will be off; if he doesn't, he'll stay — the only thing the length of his contract does is detract from compensation which would be due to us.

Is this guy a left sided defender to replace Distin or a right sided defender to replace Heitinga?

A non-starter as Everton wouldn't spend that sort of money on a defender.

Absolutely ludicrous comment by Andy.

1. As we see time and time again in football, contracts are basically worthless in terms of getting people to stay, especially manager's ones.

2. Moyes has already given us 10 years, working on an anti-budget and trying to drag us by the bootlaces back to where we belong. I'd personally love for him to stay for a good few more years (ideally in the Champions League), but I'll completely understand if he wants a new challenge to test his mettle and see what he could do with proper financial backing.

3. In terms of 'stringing along', I think it's fair to say if this is what DM is doing know it's very much overdue repayment for being considerably 'strung' himself with repeated promises of investment, new stadia, star signings, etc, etc

I'm not saying we shouldn't be concerned by this lack of signature, let's face it we all know there's likely to be a mass exodus if we don't make the Champions League this year - I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Baines and/or Jags following Felliani and Moyes out the door. However, the good news is that the players (and the manager) seem to be giving it their all right now to achieve that goal and we're still very much in the hunt despite a bad beat.

Its interesting how a rumour about a 25 yr old Italian defender balloons into an arguement about Moyes' future!

We cant afford 10m without selling obviously but we need some consistency at the back to compliment our improving attacking prowess.

I'm not saying new signings means Moyes will stay buf even if he is thinking of moving on lets hope he's trying to set us up for the future.....its all rubbish/lies and trepidation anyway.
