I wouldn't hold my breath on this kid unfortunately. He is a German International and would want to make a vertical, not horizontal move. We are in a very similar position as Schalke so I don't see the upside for the lad in coming here (even if it's his daddy's wish).

This situation seems to be too good to be true. Boyhood blue, Dad's a mad blue, young, central midfielder, developed in Germany and in the national side, winding down his contract. If he ends up anywhere other than playing for the mighty blues next season then Kenwright and Moyes should be hung drawn and quartered. No brainer.

ToffeeWeb needs to keep this one alive, we need more Evertonians in the side, players ready to give everything every time to the bitter end, like Baines.

No excuses, get him!

Neither Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham are necessarily more assured of Champions League football than us so I don't see why we can't be in the mix. Money on offer might be a different matter though...

Spurs have offered £67k per week on a pre-contract in the summer...

Robbie, I love your innocent enthusiasm but this is the big bad world of professional football unfortunately.
Wage demands, chances of European football, Moyes's opinion of him and the weather are just a few of the "excuses" that you haven't thought of.

I have followed this rumour for a while now but I don't think it will come to fruition. Especially when money is involved! The only glimmer of hope is that we can qualify for the Champions League and the fact that Schalke have said he's staying till season's end! Hoping though... ut would help as well if we can squeeze past Arsenal and Spurs!

I don't think this kid — and yes, he is still a kid — would be that WOW signing. So we will continue looking 24/7 for investment to be able to say WOW.

Wenger has admitted interest... so, if he follows Mirallas's path and chooses us over them, then it's all good! I won't hold my breath though.

Robbie, Baines is a boyhood RS supporter.

Eric there's a lad on GOT who claims going to school with Baines and declares he's a lifelong blue!

Eric — When we signed Baines he was quoted as saying he was a blue and used to go to Goodison as a kid. I've heard the rumours about him being a red, but I'm sure that is all just their usual crap.

I know it's over optimism, but in my head Holtby was born Evertonian and is running down his contract so that he can make his dad proud by wearing the royal blue shirt.

Baines was an Everton fan as a kid. He's addressed that several times. I don't know where this RS garbage has come from.

I'm with you on this Jon, my son knows that if he ever had the opportunity to play for the mighty blues and didn't take it he'd never be allowed back in the house again. $67k salary a problem? Do me a favour, Fellaini is supposed to be on something like that already, no transfer fee, what's the problem?

We are actually a pretty attractive proposition now that Moyes is getting us to play football rather than the dreaded hoof ball of bygone years, imagine a quality young Everton Midfield of Barkley and Holtby, oh yeh baby!

Come on Lewis, get in the press and tell the world you're waiting to fulfill your boyhood dream and play for the mighty blues. :)

I suspect when he signs for Spurs we will all feel rather silly.

....But in the meantime, I reckon he is holding on until the end of the season to give us every chance of qualifying for the CL so that he can justifiably sign for us!

Baines was defo a RS supporter supporter as a boy. Got it from the horses mouth on a football focus interview last season. Blue through and through now though and best left back in the biz so we'll allow him that early oversight! Nobody's perfect Leighton eh, but ya pretty dam close lad

A quote from a 2004 interview with Baines from four four two magazine during his Wigan days:
"As a boy I supported Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from the Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool's Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me"

Never mind leights lad. Ya'v got it right now when it counts!

Michael Owen, boyhood blue, dad a mad blue... Who did he sign for?
Phil Sammon
217 Posted 04/01/2013 at 13:58:07
His dad was a Liverpool fan and took him to games. I've heard Leighton say that he used to go to Everton games behind his dad's back.

Anyway, who cares. He's blue now.

This is why Spurs are on their way to becoming a top 4 side and we are not.

They have the money and ambition to lure emerging starlets and European talent where we do not to a young and improving squad that I suspect may even challenge for the title next season.

Sam Hoare #270 - not quite on point I know but you have said on a couple of recent threads you're a London born and bred bluenose. Likewise! Not too many of us down here (I only know one other) - we should go to an away game or meet in a pub to watch a televised match or something.

Complete no brainer of a signing for Spurs.

And if it doesnt work out then they can flog him under contract and make a nice profit.

London will always be a massive draw for players coming to play over here. That, cash, and the prospect of your new club also purchasing other players too.

That's a bit shit with Holtby, hope we at least tried.
As has been said above, I'm not sure it's a super smart move for him, Spurs is a graveyard for midfielders.

We need to be looking at young potential stars like this, especially when they have contracts running out. It's good having experience but since our young lads aren't getting a chance then we need to poach from abroad. I hope we don't regret not moving for a boyhood blue who is destined for big things if all is to be believed.

See Spurs also picked up Ezekiel Fryers for just £3m.

More good business, though a little dodgy after they refused to pay Man u 6m in compensation but picked him up 6 months later from Standard Liege. Crafty.

Mark B- will send you an email.

Sam, Spurs would need to replace their back four to win the league in my opinion.

When the going gets tough they go missing. Kyle Walker being a prime example.

Only my opinion of course.

Who's the next rumoured signing? I'm a lifelong Evertonian, on a free and in the Autumn of my yet to get going career.

Sam Hoare

Shane you're probably right for now. But in another season or so I think a back 5 of Lloris, Fryers, Vertonghen, Kaboul and Walker would be extremely strong with pace and power aplenty.

Anyway, enough bout Spurs. Lets get in Ofoe, Forren and Horau and start handing out some beatings.
