Everton among clubs eyeing Ferreyra

04/01/2013 | Comments (14)
The usually unreliable talkSPORT claim, without referring to or citing the source, that reports suggest Everton and Tottenham are after Velez Sarsfield striker Facundo Ferreyra.

A regular fixture in the Argentina Under-20s, the 21-year-old has scored 13 goals in 15 games this season and that has attracted interest from clubs in Europe.

It was in The Mirror today as well, maybe that's where TalkShite got it from?! But in the summer, someone on GOT did claim we sent a deligation out over to Argentina to try and sign this lad and he's ended up at Velez Sarsfield and doing well as well, apparently got 11 goals in their last 9 games to help win them the league!

If their season is over, possible loan with option to buy? If he is any good think that would see 2 or 3 moving on in the summer to bring him in?

Just speculating 'out loud'.

Maybe Bullshitter Bill will offer the Falklands in part exchange.

I'd have thought a work permit would be an issue.

Si (#467), I think you're right about their season being over and maybe we would fancy taking him on loan till the end of the season but, with him having such a good end to the season, they may feel as though they want decent money for him now instead.

And when I first heard about us being linked to this lad last summer and us sending a delegation over to Argentina, I did read he's got dual Argentine and Italian passports so a work permit wouldn't be an issue, Shane (#533).

If we could get a loan deal sorted out for him, I think he could be worth a shout. He's young, seems to know where the goal is, albeit in the Argentine league, and is deemed a talent over there, so why not give him a chance? — IF were interested that is?!

Most South Americans have good ball control but their local football is played at quite a slow pace. Then again, the ones that have come to Europe tend to adapt very well and, let's face it, most of the world's top players are South Americans, so the lad must be worth a punt if he is doing well over there.

It would be a no-brainer to take him on loan if available.

Trevor,

I wonder if you remember the lad who was leading goalscorer in the Argentine league just a little while back, was snapped up by a fantastic manager in this country who was renowned for his excellent eye in the transfer market, came to this great club in the Premier League, ran around like a blue-arsed fly and put in plenty of 'effort', was accordingly idolized by the fans... but was basically useless, and consequently disappeared without trace.

I'm pretty sure he was a South American... wasn't he?

He may be the next Falcao... who knows? Porto signed this unknown for £4m and sold him for £40m. Not bad eh?

Im thinking of the ones who made the grade ie; Tevez, Arguero, Messi etc etc.

You need to sow seeds to reap dividends....If he's a loan option he is worth a look at !

But you can bet that if ANY other club is in for him we will drop out !!

We only stay interested if no one else is ; Heitinga, Bily, Magueye and Drenthe.

Straq could well be heading back, TalkShite have mentioned a possible him as a shock return. I thought he was brilliant, he put the likes of Victor to shame with his desire, will to win and effort and his goalscoring ratio stands up to Vics as well. So, if he can persuade his young mate to come with him, great!

Also the Johnny H to Ajax rumours keep cropping up so hopefully that would give Moyes the funds he needs to get somebody in.
