The Rumour Mill

The price tag on Fellaini is £30M

The Star on Sunday claims that Chelsea have been told they will have to pay £30million to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

An unnamed source "close to the Merseyside club" says they can afford to play hard-ball over the Belgium midfielder because he still has over three years left on his contract.

The Star claims that Everton turned down £20m for Fellaini, in the summer and are trying to hold on to their asset.

If The Star is to be believed, Everton have apparently told Fellaini they intend to strengthen the side by going in for Scott Sinclair of Manchester City and £3m-rated Molde defender Vegard Forren.

£30M?! Is it a bargain?
Or £30M + Lukaku??

Start the bidding at £35m plus player(s). After all, he cost us £15m to sign and is now one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Therefore, Moyes gets around £10 million to strengthen this window in the hope we qualify for the CL. Now say we achieve it and get through the qualifier, we have made the £10 million back straight away. Now if we fail to get in the CL Fellaini and Baines will more than likely leave anyway and we raise around £50 million, the bank will get it's money back plus and Moyes, or whoever will be able to spend around £35 million on replacements. It's a win win for the bank and the board either way.

I agree with Steve, if they want him, let them pay through the nose.

I hope this 30M is not the same as the 50M BK wanted for Rooney.

But if we can get...and this is, in real terms, their opening offer 30M and a player of our choice, my initial thought is Lampard, Fat Frank gets the stick but he has scored more goals...from Midfield mind, than any other player bar Dixie.

Also I didn't see him 'blowing for tugs' after 75mins like a certain player with quick feet.

Yeah we maybe need a Keeper, CB, RB; but the Guy is class AND they don't want him.

But I fear going past the Watford Gap will be a step too far and he will end up back at West Ham.

£30M. I'd bite their hands off. I didn't see us struggling too much without him during his ban. Yes, I know we lost to Chelsea but that was a game we should have well won.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the lad is vastly overrated. Imagine what Moyes could do with the £5M he'd receive of a £30M fee... Oops! Did I really type that? I think you know where I'm coming from!

No, in all seriousness, he has had a great season so far but has flattered to deceive on many occasions. I'd be gutted if Baines went more than him.

Can't see his value at any more than 25 personally. That's not a comment on his ability, just the market that's out there.

Of the clubs who can afford him (say Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal) none would have him in behind the striker regularly as all have enough options. He'd be a great defensive mid for 3 of the 4 (City have Yaya) but would you pay 30m plus for that position? There must be cheaper options around for that position.

I don't think he'll move.

If he's going to go, then we should hold out for £30M + Lampard. Frank has proven recently that he's still got a couple of years left in him at the top level, and he continues to score goals.

I would be gutted to lose Fellaini, as we've watched him grow into the top player he has become. But if a player wants to go and Kenwright wants to cash in on another of our top players (nothing new there), then let's hope we get a good deal for him.

Having said all that, I just hope that Moyes gets a good wedge (75%) of the transfer fee to bolster our squad.

£30m would be good business I think. If he has a good second half of the season and we don't make champs league then would expect him to move for about this amount.

Big question will be how much of it moyes will be given? If moyes it still around!

I thought it was established Sinclair has played for two prem clubs this year and so cannot play for a third... ie, us.

I don't buy this paper so I've got the following question;

Does this particular toilet roll come in velvet or just standard?

I do like a smooth and comfortable wipe.

Jon @731, So far this year he has not played for any club. You probably meant per season but I am not sure.

£30million minimum. He's good, young, adapted to this league, and has signed that contract. He's also being hyped, so its not like this is a sly one.

Terry (#726) you're right about the source of course, but "when will Fellaini leave and for how much" is still a serious issue to be discussed.

I actually think the only team that needs him is Man Utd, and they should play him in his original central midfield position in place of Carrick.

Dick 765 - He played and scored for Swansea first game this season. I'm not completely sure, but think he has played for City at least once and so therefore not eligible to play for another Prem club this season. I wish it weren't so!

We're right amongst the challengers for a Champions League place. Fellaini is one of the main reasons for this. To sell arguably our best player to ....er... fund a Champions League challenge doesn't make any sense. We can't just keep recycling our best players and expect to replace like with like.

Keep our key players, see what we can add in the January sales, and push hard for fourth. If it doesn't happen then that's the time to look at what to do next.

Jon and Dick (767). My Understanding of the rule is a player cannot play for more than two clubs in the same calender year so therefore would be eligible for a move?

However, I don't foresee this deal happening as the rumour is Sinclair moved there knowing the limited chances he would receive, basically replacing Adam Johnson as a perrenial bench warmer. Also the move suited him as his annoying girlfriend pestered for a move back to Manchester.

£30M would be brilliant but I want Fellaini to stay.

£30M — is that a down payment and the other £30M over 5 years? If Andy Carroll was worth £35M then felli must be worth £70M.

This story proves to be just that when they say that Fellaini has been told who we will be signing in January. I can't see Moyes naming names to a player. In fact, the more you think about it, the more ridiculous that notion is.

And anyway, Scott Sinclair would have that Flanagan bint in tow. We must be above resorting to that!! :)

A sauce close to the club divulging the lowdown eh. Must be that sweet and sour stuff from the Blue Dragon in Goodison Road.

Fella's worth at least £35m IMO. He is amazing and I'd hate to see him leave.

I thought he had a release clause in his contract around the £25m mark?

I agree with Steve (#715) above – the lad cost us €15M as a relatively untried and unknown player; he's come on a hell of a lot since then and is one of the best in the league, if not the world, in his position. If he was a Man Utd player, we'd be talking maybe £50M, so why such a low figure?
