£4M bid for Forren accepted
After Molde boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Forren was set to leave the Norwegian champions, Fulham were reported to have made an offer for the 24-year-old on Thursday but Martin Jol subsequently denied the speculation
According to The Sun now, Everton have made the bid that many suspected and are in pole position to wrap up Forren's signature this week.
Solskjaer confirmed last week: "Vegard is not travelling to the national team camp, because we are in the final stages of negotiations with another club.
"It's possible that Vegard will go for a medical check-up and negotiate his personal contract."

Strong and quite British in his style of play. Tough guy, at least in the Norwegian league. Very good positioning. Looks to have broken into the international side now as well as the first choice partner for Hangeland. Has been impressive for Norway so far.
Reasonably quick, but not lightning in any way. Decent on the ball.
He´s definitely too good to play in Norway, will he cut it in the Premier League? Time will tell; Solskjær certainly thinks so.

This season his form has not been great and at times he's looked uninterested but that's more a symptom of a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Heitinga's form will not improve being a bit player behind Distin and Jagielka.
Maybe it is time Heitinga moves on but one thing I feel very strongly about is that he does not deserve such scorn from the fans. The fans should remember his performances last season and cut Heitinga some slack.

That's a very good, concise summary of a player.
818 Posted 06/01/2013 at 16:44:55
Will this mean that Heitinga will move away?

I know it's only YouTube but he looks decent in the air, and got a good spring on him, to say he isn't the tallest. Reads the game very well and is good at sniffing out danger, he's aggressive in the tackle but not silly aggressive and the lad can play as well and is a lefty so would compliment Jags IMO.
I would love us to ship Heitinga out for decent money, get him off the wage bill and replace him with someone like this Forren, a good young CB making his way in the game.

Sure, he should know. After all he made a career of being a Man Utd sub :-). Nah, seriously he´s been a terrific player with a great start to management. Two straight Norwegian Championships with a club that had never won it before he arrived.
Personally I´m quietly optimistic about Forren in the Premier League. Normally Norwegian league players don´t cut it (most flop in Belgium, never play in Germany or deliver half-decent stuff in mid-quality leagues), but Forren could actually be the real deal.
Don´t know where we have found the spare £4mill though? I guess that´s why these are rumours after all.

Moyes launched a public missile Timothy's way in the early winter and I for one want some follow-up — like, for instance, a goalie I can have confidence in to do the basics and boss his box. That Mansfield goalie looked tasty; anyone please, anybody who's better than TMH.

He´s definitely too good to play in Ireland, will he cut it in the Premier League? Yes he will if given playing time. His name is Duffy but Moyes certainly does not think so.

And good for Heitinga too as he might go somewhere where he will really commit and do his best.
Also, I don't know how good Garbutt is at this moment, but I haven't seen anything of Oviedo at left back, so it's some sort of cover.
And presumably this means no Lescott. I guess wages would be a huge issue there, much as we might like him back.

2) If Heitinga is in the team tomorrow, as I expect him to be, then this is bullshit. Moyes's comments re a small amount available do not suggest anything more than £1million as the winter kitty... and there are more pressing concerns.
3) As Jack says, Duffy is not ready to be a third choice centre back. How many teams in this league have an unproven 21-year-old as third choice cb? Let alone a team going for Champions League football?
I think though, a young guy like Forren, and the presence of Duffy, is a good long term tactic. It is important to start getting some youth into this team.
905 Posted 06/01/2013 at 21:55:58
However I would say that he has never looked more composed, assured and bizarrely seems to be getting quicker.
I'm yet to see him be outpaced in the PL.
I'd be quite comfortable offering him a 2 year deal and letting JH go.
Duffy will be a good player but his lack of pace is a real issue. The only centre backs that get away with being slow are those that read the game well i.e. John Terry. Duffy can't do that and it's a big ask for one so young.
908 Posted 06/01/2013 at 21:58:19
Or get rid of the Academy completely and just buy young talent season by season as our youth don't get much playing time.

Phil #905, Distin was madly outpaced by Berbatov a couple years ago! This season he's been excellent though :)

930 Posted 06/01/2013 at 22:17:59
Heitinga looks like he wants out and his performances recently have stunk the place out. Get rid while we can.
946 Posted 07/01/2013 at 01:51:05
Peter Hall, we definitely need four at that position... remember just last year we got down to our fifth choice centre-back, Tony Hibbert. We've seen what chaos it causes in even the top teams when their CBs go down. Clearly Moyes doesn't think Duffy is ready for full-time responsibilities, and there's no way a 35-year-old, even one as fit as Distin, gets through the season uninjured. We need quality in depth to have a shot at the Champions League.
Also, I've seen plenty of Oviedo at left back in the World Cup qualifiers. You'll like him. Defensively he's as almost as good as Baines, with even more pace. And you've already seen that he knows what he's doing going forward.
953 Posted 07/01/2013 at 04:20:49
My preference would be a keeper to put Howard on notice. Two or three quality players will have us pressing for the top 3/4. Love to see Man Utd and Man City have a bit of form slump and get on the wrong end of some of the shite refs we have had. With a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions, we could come home with a wet sail. Here's hoping anyway.

However if you asked me who I'd have between him and Distin, it would be Distin every time. He's been a rock for us and I sincerely hope we can keep hold of him for another year or two. He's a complete professional and clearly looks after himself physically. There's not many who will outpace him.
Would be nice to get this Forren guy and Im sure we would have enough centre back experience at the club to bring him on in the Prem (Moyes, Stubbs, Weir, Jags etc).

Distin is a true pro in my eyes. I think he sees the next couple of years at Everton as his last shot at European football.

Then again it says "final stages of negotiations" so I guess nothing can be confirmed until that is resolved. The level of secrecy is amazing though.
