Interest in a Korean Giant?

13/01/2013 | Comments (27)
Everton's search for new additions in the January transfer window could result in the signing of giant forward Kim-Shin Wook who measures in at 6ft-5in and is regarded as one of South Korea's leading players.

He is one of the stars of the K-League where he has lead the line for Ulsan Hyundai for the past four seasons. The 24-year-old helped the club land the AFC Champions League last year and has a decent goalscoring record having found the net 61 times in 159 appearances in the K-League.

Everton's scouts have watched the man known as “Our Giant” by the Ulsan Hyundai and talks could open up over a transfer to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.

Who? Scoring in the K-League is one thing but the Premier League is a little different! But I trust DM... COYB!

This would be good for our profile in Korea which is soccer mad.

Soccer? Good grief, let's not call the beautiful game that.

Football had been called soccer in this country way before Pele coined that phrase Stu.

Soccer is an old British word coined out of Association Football in the late 1800s and used to differentiate it from Rugby Football, but yes it has fallen into disuse in Britain as it was adopted by the Yanks and Aussies who prefer to use "football" for games played with the hands.

6ft 5in - that's not a giant! When I saw the headline, I thought we were talking about a proper 25ft giant. Now that I'd like to see...

Let's hope he's not jolly and green.

Is his name an anagram of something? This is a wind-up isn't it? Still one thing's for sure: we definitely need a striker. Jelavic has been poor this season and looks shot to bits.

How many of his goals are headers? We don't want to go back to lumping it forward... Anyone for togger?

Hope it's a goer and he's got mates in north Korea with a few shilling .. imagine Kenwright trying to tell THEM he wants to be President.

Being South Korean, he is unlikely to have too many 'many mates in north Korea' and it is even less likely that they will have 'a few shilling' (unless we are being literal).

Anybody else looking at what we already have and hankering for someone with pace, power and a low centre of gravity? Then again, maybe this bloke runs like Usain Bolt rather than Peter Crouch.

I think Kim-Shin Wook is Big Mick from the Chippy.

He's a big bloke, Mick (hence his name) but he's not a giant. Nor is he Korean, although he does sell dog meat burgers - £1.25, since you ask.

I think he's just another Andy Johnson in the making and the correct English translation of his name is Skim (Just past the post) - Shin (over the bar) - Wook (abbreviation of hit the Woodwork)
so he sounds perfect for us.

Is this guy a southpaw? With everything coming from the left and nothing, apart from Jagielka's long punts, coming from the right, we need left-sided people in the box. Week-in & week-out, it's the same old story. Ask Jelavic and Ossie. Two sitters, two misses.

Anyway, this lad may be the ideal size for Moyes but his age would confine him to the bench. The K-League to the Premier League? No chance...

Ulsan Hyunda finished 6th in the K-League last year and believe me after watching a few games it's no wonder the fans follow the PL!

Living in South Korea at the moment, I would love it if we signed him as I'd be able to watch more games on live TV including highlights on the Seoul Metro. The marketing would also be quite handy (you can buy a QPR, Sunderland or Swansea calendar no probs but no Mn Utd ones!) but I think, if that is the reason for the move, you would just take him on loan to build interest.

At 6'-5" I'd prefer if we signed Pricey the boxer, who in their right mind would tackle him? Only Duncan Ferguson could throw a better punch on the football / togger / soccer / kick-about field.

I'm curious as to why the media have dubbed him 'The Korean Peter Crouch". Yeah he's 6' 5" but appears to be evenly proportioned (unlike Crouch who looks like someone has dropped the contents of a packet of spaghetti). It also makes me wonder if the Koreans do the same thing in reverse. I mean do they look at say Phil Neville and think 'he's the English Fuk Kin Kak' (37-year-old Korean midfielder/defender known for pointing, fouling and chipping the ball into space occupied by nobody).

Kev 521, was watching the 6pm news yesterday and in a survey of beef burger products, a whole load of them were found to have traces of horse meat. One packet was found to have 29 percent horse meat. No dog meat mentioned though. I wonder does horse taste like chicken.
