Everton show interest in M'Vila

17/01/2013 | Comments (50)
Everton appear to have entered the running for Rennes midfield star Yann M'Vila, with David Moyes offering a loan-to-permanent deal for the 22-year-old.

After persuading Loic Remy to join them earlier this week, free-spending QPR are in pole position for M'Vila and have reportedly submitted an official offer of £6.2m while it's claimed Fulham have bid £5.8m.

An un-named third club, believed to be Everton, have offered to take M'Vila on loan until the summer with a view to a permanent move. Rennes apparently want £10m for M'Vila who was a transfer target of Arsene Wenger's last summer.

I think what could be going on here is that with the club getting the TV money in the summer, they are obviously trying to (quite reasonably) tie up players now and just as obviously be able to assure the perspective club doing the loaning that they will definitely be in a position to pay when the time comes.

Why didn't we all think of that before??!! ....Although the other side of this plan is that there would be no room to haggle... but all the same a tempting persuasion for the loaners and given our present standing in the Prem, also tempting for the loanee rather than joining (enforcedly) a bottom/lower standing club.

Why would they loan him when QPR are offering to buy him out straight?

Can't see anyone turning down hard cash in favour of a loan deal. Non starter.

He's the type of player we should be after though.

As I have already mentioned I cannot understand the mentality of our board. I could be well off the mark but supporting Moyes in this window is a no-brainer.

The signings are a success and we achieve 4th place. Fellaini and Baines remain and it's onwards and upwards for the club with all the additional prize money covering any expenditure this month. The signings are not enough to claim 4th and we say goodbye to the above players with a hefty profit to cover any costs; the board and the banks cannot lose.

Unless our banks literally won't lend us any more money, the club could be losing out on a lot more than just a few players leaving come May due to such narrow mindedness

James Cadwaladr
297 Posted 17/01/2013 at 08:39:31
Tom, just like we did with Lewis Holtby????

Gareth, we exhausted our credit lines with the banks a good few years ago mate.

We all know that no one will be coming in unless someone goes out. That's the way it is and its the way it has been for a long time.

The most important piece of business we can do this transfer window is get Moyes to sign a new contract.

Gareth, the Board want the banks to do their work for them and the banks have said no. The Board wouldn't invest money when they could still go to the banks. It's now an obvious sign of the mentality of the Board members that when there are no more overdrafts and loans, they would rather sit back and watch the club operate at a loss rather than put their own money in.

The thing that I really don't get is that it would not take a huge amount of investment by the Board to take us up to the next level. Fifteen to twenty million between them to give to Moyes to buy three quality players is nothing to them. It's also a pittance in terms of what even Spurs or Newcastle spend, never mind City, Chelsea or Utd. Moyes is a settled manager who would spend the money wisely. Three players would really make a difference to this squad and would give us a proper chance of CL qualification.

Phil, admittedly he may be a good player but I don't think he is the type of player we want at our club given his off-field antics: recently being banned for a year+ I believe due to going out clubbing on the night of an U21 France game.

We want players who are in for the cause and won't disrupt the team spirit and work ethos that every other player buys into. I had my concerns at first that Mirallas would be like a Nani, not tracking back and falling over when someone in the front row blows their nose, but he proved me wrong – he tracks back and can get stuck in when required.

Back to M'Vila – I'd rather we put our focus elsewhere. I'm also glad we've cooled on Forren, I never was too keen on that idea. We need another midfielder and a striker. Some supporters (I being one of them) were crying out for Barkley – well I have to admit when he came on against Chelsea you could tell he needed to get a bit more game time under his belt before being thrown into the PL. Next season will be his season for sure though.

Kiearan (#298)... and others with similar posts:

What everyone still doesn't get yet re "The Board" is that they are all waiting, hoping, praying for Kenwright to go under, to implode so to speak; then they will step in (in my opinion). I just don't understand yet why the fans haven't connected with this ongoing scenario.

"The Board" in my opinion know where he's at, they know he's nicked the club, and they know he's got no money to run it... Especially, I believe, the Grantchesters who are well known to be dead set against his chairmanship.

The downside has been, as we know, the present dichotomy between Moyes's skilful acquisitions versus, for a few dollars more, we could strike the oil... Or even the end scene in 'The Italian Job'.

As soon as I heard it was a club wanting to loan with a view to permanent I knew it was Everton. Hand to mouth maybe, but it is also a see before you buy opportunity. If in principle we are prepared to pay the asking price then the seller might be willing to go for it. If this lad is so great, clubs will still be queuing up in the summer to buy him.

'Awwy is great at splashing other people's cash as he invariably moves on before his lack of long-term strategy is found out. We have to be sure of what we're getting and Moyes has only made a few mistakes in this regard so I hope we get to "try before we buy". If not, I hope the lad has an escape clause built in as otherwise he will be playing Championship football next year if he goes with Old 'Awwy.

As I've said before, whenever BK puts a theatre show on he has to speculate without guarantees of returns to match his outlay.

What is the difference between that type of speculation and investing a bit in EFC??

Trevor #311 The scale the difference between 100's of 1000's and 10's of Millions.

Any one with half a brain would see that QPR must be in with a shout of going down and Everton are in with a shout of going to the CL... so, unless he is totally in his agents pocket and thick as a brick, it's a simple decision.

Oh, just spotted the flaw.... he's a brain-dead footballer in his agents pocket.

Move on, nothing to see here.

Trevor, if one of BK's shows don't work out, all that happens is that his personal fortune may take a hit (if indeed he doesn't at least break even with every show). If he spins the roulette wheel with Everton, one fifth place and the entire club could go under.

Anyone watch French football? Who's better out of M'Vila and Capoue? Not that we can afford to sign either of them of course but more out of general curiosity. From unreliable YouTube clips alone, I prefer the look of Capoue....

The only thing that will make this realistic is M'Vila doesn't want to go to QPR. Fulham can't afford him, Rennes are desperate to get rid of him... then we come up with the loan to buy offer.

Unlikely, I know, but hey, we need that kind of midfielder desperately in the squad.

Steve Brown

The reason we can't compete with QPR is that Tony Fernandes owns Air Asia, the Tunes Hotel Group, Caterham F1 team. The overall summary of that is he is fucking super rich.

A quality player. Real class act. Question marks over his character. Sounds all too familiar doesn't it. A loan deal with a view to permanent would be fantastic business. Not sure what this kind of player would want to go to QPR for with all due respect.

Everton are on the verge of signing….Fokken Kno-Juan, the utility player who can play anywhere-but probably won’t has been on Everton’s radar for some time. Everton’s Chairman, Bill Kenwright confirmed that plans to sign Fokken Kno-Juan were at an ‘advanced stage’ adding that Fokken Kno-Juan wanted to play for Everton.

Mr Kenwright also confirmed that the proposed takeover was ‘imminent’ and was at the Due Diligence phase, and sprung a surprise by stating that ‘one or two’ sites are being considered for the proposed 75,000 seater stadium which incorporates shopping and leisure complex, Olympic village, planetarium, heliport and Disneyland (Kirkdale).

To all the people that are saying that Rennes would rather go for the money now than later... So surely we are in the driving seat, even though QPR are in advanced negotiations?

Capoue is the up-and-coming star but M'Vila has been around for 3 years now, both good footballers who also like a good old 50-50 challenge.

Is there anyone who could do a job in the reserves, I like the look of Lundstram in midfield, George Green for the future, Barkley, Vellios, McAleny, Hammar are all promising... Question is: Would Moyes give them a fair chance?

….Fokken Kno-Juan has been found out as an illegall immigrant and will therefore be deported in 10 years time, just like all illegall immigrants. He has applied for a work permit and is awaiting the results. To qualify he must prove he has lived in the UK for more than two years(legally or otherwise).

Tony: "An un-named third club, believed to be Everton" - Believed by whom? The hack making up the column inches?

That is our line, Tony, not the Mail's.

We at TW have an ongoing challenge in trying to distinguish between what is our reportage and what comes from the outside. In this instance, the original source of one aspect of the story is the Daily Mail, but the text above is all ours. There were a couple of other sources suggesting (before the Mail article was published) that the third, un-named club is Everton.

I'm still trying to work out the best way to cite external sources without our readers assuming the text is lifted from outside (although this is complicated by the fact that text from other sources is often used verbatim, something I'm trying very hard to avoid).

If this interested third party is us, and we are in for him, then why in god's name would you even bother talking to QPR or Fulham??? Don't these idiots do their homework? We're talking about an established top Premier League club as opposed to one who is virtually marooned and another who (with all due respect) can't muster a crowd to save their lives with no history to speak of...

The deciding factor here is money: they've got it. we haven't. But, if the lad had anything about him, he'd think long and hard about his next move I mean QPR, Fulham or the famous EFC? For fuck's sake – it's a no-brainer.

M'Vila would be a quintessential Moyes signing. Exceptionally talented but lost his way a bit. A similar player to Fernandes but better. Not so long ago he was seen as the new Viera and on his way to Madrid or Barca.

Caught Offside and a few other sources are reporting that Everton are currently in talks with this lad loan-to-buy, but they also say that Felli is likely to go during January with Arsenal, Chelsea and United interested. Was Rafa in charge of the other lot when Felli played for Liege at their ground? If so I would think they are favourites especially if Lampard leaves.

In answer to Andy (432). You'd think it'd be a no brainer wouldn't you, but you only have to look at Remy who's just signed for QPR.

You have to ask yourself, why?

It's basically ALL about the money in 99% of cases. The days of a player wanting to play for one particular club for reasons other than money are very, very few and far between!

Mohamed Diame is being linked with Everton, Arsenal and Spurs, he has a 3.5 million pound buy-out clause, I wonder if he prefers the North West of England rather than NW London?
It would seem that Felliani is going to be sacrificed to bolster our chances of CL qualification.
Brian Williams

Patrick Murphy
901 Posted 20/01/2013 at 00:14:47
I'm only going on what Caught Offside have said regarding Felli, but the clause in Diame's contract is true - the commentator mentioned it today and Big Sam has also said they have tried to get rid of it without success. WHU will still make money as they got him on free from Wigan last summer.

I just can't see us bringing anyone in without losing someone and if Felli has it in his mind to leave - albeit in the summer - Moyes might think it best to lose him now and strengthen the squad.

It's all conjecture of course until something concrete happens.

Just reading an update on the Yann M'Vila situation. Much of the attention has been centred on QPR and more recently on Rubin Kazzan. I believe the Mail, who are usually full of shite wrote something about us entering the race to sign him.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything else on the Everton interest. Only reason I ask because the BBC article mentions an unnamed club, who are willing to pay £3.0 million up front and a further £3.3 million at the end of the season. This club is apparently the on that M'Vila favours....

"He would prefer to join the unnamed club, who would pay £3.3m up front and a further £3m, or £3.3m, at the end of the season".

A couple of things add up. Moyes asked for extra money, and knows that we will be in the top flight next year to take advantage of the new TV deal. Even if we were in the market for a few loan players, they don't come for free so the £3 million being talked about as a down payment seems believable. Add to that the player wants to join a club, you would imagine that it's a fairly competitive, possible Champions League chasing team?? At the end of the day, it's probably bollocks but it's nice to dream and there are a couple of variables in this story that lead me to believe it might be us.

Just shows how the Media are used by the agents to manipulate the price of a player and to raise interest in him!
A "source close to the player" said at the weekend that a 10.8million euros deal had been done with Rubin Kazzan.........then someone pointed out that Rubin Kazzan are under a transfer embargo and couldn't possibly be signing him! By which point another article had already stated that QPR and Fulham were willing to match the price.........

Agents doing what agents do best I'm afraid.

Until they're running out in blue to the Z Cars Theme its pointless believing any of it.
